There's been a lot of discussion at the thread about the movie "No Letting Go" about a boy with bipolar whose family can afford a six figure cost of residential care. There's a lot of agreement in the Comments that most people with MI struggle with finances to MAYBE be able to afford some sort of treatment. Does anyone know of a movie that deals with this problem? As I said in one of my posts in the "No Letting Go" thread, most of the movies I've seen about MI show the person getting treatment, but finances are not mentioned! It's just "taken for granted" in these movies that people with MI get therapy, and/or a psychiatrist/meds, and the issue of the UNAVAILABILITY and inaccessibility of these things for so many people is not addressed.

If there's a movie showing what you're looking for in the OP, I doubt it ends well. One example of someone with MI that doesn't have the money would be "Slingblade"

I have a friend that would be a great example of this and has a truly amazing redemption and salvation story that would certainly translate to film so painfully beautifully, but I don't have permission to share or write that story. It truly would be awesome, because this friend is awesome and has been through everything, even and especially the unimaginable.
I think I'll make a pitch to him. Of course 50/50 split, if anything comes of it. I'll need to do it in person though. Over the internet or phone wouldn't be ok with me. Bit of a drive. But, needs to be done I think. It would be an honor to write it, regardless of anyone else's opinions. |

"Mr Jones" When he was manic he spent money like crazy. He was bipolar.

Not a movie but the show Shameless(us) has 2 characters, a mother and son who are bipolar and one does have financial issues. She's only in several episodes. But the show is the most realistic depiction of bipolar I have seen, both have it but both show it in different ways. And they are far from able to afford proper Healthcare.

I find the money issue (or lack of) annoying too. I just finished a book called "Mental: Lithium..." Once in a while it mentions having trouble finding money, but mostly it's about her manic episodes and she jets to various locations, lives in New York City without a job and spends money on ridiculous things--all without financial consequences. It would be a lot easier to cope with bipolar if money were no object.
