I am eating well! That is of most importance.
Had some oatmeal this morning, I forgot about it as an option in the morning as I usually don't eat breakfast. But they say you should eat something to get your day started. I think it is about 150 calories about the same as a banana. I wonder which is a better choice for breakfast. my oatmeal has quite a bit of sugar but is very satisfying and I don't have to worry about it being ripe or over ripe. Bananas are easier to grab and go though. I have plenty of oatmeal and right now have not any bananas so it was a no brainer this morning. We only live 3 blocks from the grocery store. bizi

Honestly I would say both, plus add in some protein such as eggs. 150 calories is not enough to keep you full for long, and both of your options will be digested quickly and will not sate hunger for long.

I agree with scared. You need some protein. Will keep your blood sugar more stable for a longer period of time. 150 calories isn't much. it's best to eat around 300 calories 5-6 times a day to keep blood sugar level and to curb cravings. I've been losing weight eating a lot of protein. Maybe you could add a yogurt to that breakfast. Greek yogurt has the most protein. Maybe some plain greek yogurt with some local honey and some fresh berries and possibly some granola instead of the banana and keep the banana for a later snack. What oatmeal are you eating that has sugar? Plain oatmeal doesn't have sugar. Maybe switch to some quick cooking steal cut oats? The stuff in the little packets are horrible for you, so much **** added. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, best to be eaten within 30 mins of getting up because it'll boost your metabolism.
I might have been to nutritionists too many times in my life haha. Yes i know how to eat healthy. Do I want to? NO. But now I have no choice. it blows. I'm sick of salad. Also remember to get healthy fats like olive oil and avocados. |

Eat the oatmeal and grab the banana for later.

I eat around 500-600 calories every morning. I need it with the amount of exercise I do. I nearly always have crunchy oats granola bars and something else. I eat those bars 2-3 times a day anyway. I go lighter for lunch ~400, and supper is 200-300 most nights. I'll have several small snacks during the day too. On my big workout days, usually just Sunday at 4 to 5 hours of full on, I'll eat about 2200-2500 calories and burn around 2800. I finally started losing weight again! I think my muscles have plateaued for the type of exercise I do, mostly cardio.
We don't need as much protein as people think. Two tablespoons of peanut butter solves the protein necessity for an entire day. I'll also say fats are not the enemy. Sugar is. The sugar industry paid the US govt to say fats were the problem. Yep. Straight up bribed. I'm not saying eat all the fat you want, but be mindful of what you're eating and how much your body needs. Also, calorie counts on labels are allowed to be off by as much as 25%. Yikes? |

You may want to try cutting up the banana into your oatmeal, tastes very nice.
I buy oatmeal with not sugar added and will often put some fruit in it for the sweetness and to make it a bit more filling. Sometimes I will add just a bit of strawberry jam to my oatmeal also for a bit of taste and sweetness but you can't go crazy with the jam.

I have read several resources which claim including protein with breakfast increases weight loss. (I don't have those sources.)
I found this to be true for me. I find protein helpful all day long; it stabilizes my blood sugar and can minimize cravings. Just my 2 cents. ![]() WC

I get hungry twice in the morning. Once as soon as I get out of bed, and then again at about 10 pm. I've always been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and shouldn't be a starvation meal. If you like your oatmeal and banana, consider having the oatmeal with half the banana sliced on it, with a very small glass of juice. Then eat the other half of the banana a little later.
Variety in meals is kind of important to me. Eating oatmeal and a banana every day would get pretty old. I am a yogurt fan, so eat that often. Sometimes I eat a protein bar, if on the run. Eggs with veggies and whole wheat toast on the weekend. Maybe a smoothie sometimes. Even a toasted whole grain waffle with a little peanut butter and jam is good. Or if you love the bananas, you can even spread the toasted whole grain waffle with banana and top that with jam or fresh berries. Yum! Maybe consider taking a multi-vitamin if you don't think you eat enough during the day. I take just a small one with 100% of the dailies. |

I just switched to fat free yogurt; I had been eating whole milk yogurt but my LDL measured 116 so cutting back on saturated fat. I don't really care for stevia. I don't use artificial sweeteners either. I use preserves or applesauce with actual sugar in them to flavor my yogurt. I just do pretty good at portion control, eat a light lunch and don't snack much during the day. I find that eating a smaller portion of what I like satisfies me more than a bigger helping of something that is an attempt at what I like with artificial flavors and sweeteners. YMMV, of course. I do eat low sugar oatmeal, but it is less but still actual sugar. Publix maple and brown sugar is 120 calories. Most bananas I eat are closer to 100 calories (I have weighed some for reference).

I like dried powdered stevia leaves instead of extract, but l tend to like things more robustly flavored, like black coffee, or espresso with plain unsweetened cocoa powder in it. Delicious. The green stevia leaf is actually really good to chew on and eventually eat completely. Supposedly it's good for digestion and the other components of it are supposed to have health benefits. Dunno. I like stevia sweetened sodas too. An ex-friend grew a few stevia plants and I'd sometimes ask for a leaf.
I try to avoid milk overall, because our bodies aren't made to consume it. The protein and fat components of cow's milk are dangerous in some situations even. Goat's milk cheese is much easier on my digestion. But I try not to consume much of anything from the dairy dept. Someone relentlessly suggested vegetarianism and another veganism until I asked them, "if I eat a fruit, am I eating a plant's baby? Plants are sentient too." Maybe they both gave up at that point but either way it stopped. I ate rice flavored with thyme and sage for dinner after the gym. Filling, no cholesterol, easy to make, and easy on my stomach. I used to have terrible stomach issues until I lost weight and stopped eating so much dairy and almost all fast food. |

I can't fall out of bed and eat in the morning. My stomach revolts at the suggestion of anything more substantial than black coffee. I've tried to eat breakfast but can't till about noon. I've lost nearly 100 lbs. just by watching my portions and not eating a whole lot of greasy food, but I just can't do the breakfast thing.

I do intermittent fasting so I often only have a black coffee over ice cubes when I wake up. It works for me because I can’t stomach food first thing.

This makes me realize I should probably eat breakfast more often. But I'd say eat them both. It isn't much calories combined and I hear breakfast is really important! But you were going to just choose one, I'd say oatmeal. It sounds like it's more filling.

I make my oatmeal by boiling it in milk until getting thick, pour some sugar on it, and then pour more milk on it to get the desired consistency. In my case, several banas together would be less calories than the outmeal that I make.
