Hi and welcome to Psych Central! I take Trazodone. It's actually an antidepressant, but it's known to be sedating.

I tolerated zopiclone and sublinox well. No side effects. I currently use (legal) cannabis instead.

Nothing. Well not in the medical sense like prescription drugs. I have an additive personality and the doctor will never give me anything. This sucks because I'm doing it tough to wean off my Oxycodone... however, Jack is a somewhat master at mixing up other prescription meds laying around the house...oh yeah, and I've started smoking weed to help with insomnia, but most importantly, the oxy withdrawals. So you see, there's no silver lining to be me. Oh poor me lol

150mg trazadone (wonderful, wonderful) + an obscene dosage of Seroquel and I’m out. I awake alert but try to eke out more sleep, usually unsuccessfully.
The sun is up and I have yet to take last night’s meds. I like feeling high, I suppose. You might ask your PCP to begin you on 50mg of trazadone. I also took Ambien for 8 years but it nearly killed me. Even now, with the cumulative affects of many of the meds that I take, I must be careful when getting up from my bed... I often faint. Good luck. Sleep can be a critical necessity.

A few of my evening meds could be considered sedating, but I think the only one that really is that I take is Seroquel XR. Though it certainly helps with my sleep, at my dose it also helps curb mania and depression. I appreciate Seroquel XR, but I need to take it early at night and try to go to sleep at a reasonable time, otherwise it's hard to get up in the morning with the alarm clock. If I force myself awake with too little sleep after taking Seroquel XR I get what I call the Seroquel XR "hangover". Basically that makes me very irritable and spaced out and clumsy. Kind of like trying to drag a 3 year old out of bed at 4 am.

I take 25 mg of Seroquel (I used to take a very high dose for mania, but now I take Abilify for that). Even at that small dose, it's very very sedating and I go to bed extremely early on work nights (I usually get into bed at around 6pm, though it might take an hour or so to get to sleep, but when I do, I quite literally pass out). I need about 10 hours of sleep with the Seroquel. It's very very effective for sleep, but I would not take it unless you're able to get a great deal of sleep; at least that's been my experience with it.

Clozaril puts me out like a light. It's an antipsychotic, but its doubles as a sleep aid for me and I dont need to take anything else.

Temazepam. It's a benzo. So I suppose the morning hell I have to get through every day is a side affect. Then yes, I'm in fog until early afternoon. But I'm also depressed so may be that too. But I sleep soundly for 8-9 hours.

I take i or 2 Ibuprofen pm.
I have chronic inflammation from childhood emotional neglect, one of the common flaws of growing up in a big family. I was taking tylenol with an ibuprofen to start and my doctor said he has patients that do that regularly also. I am a firm believer that stress leads to inflammation which leads to inflammation induced anemia which leads to a bunch of other medical problems. I sometimes take diphenhydramine 50mg which is the sleep aid component of Ibuprofen pm. All over the counter.

Lately, I take benadryl (actually WalDryl). It is the sleep aid in OTC PM pain relievers. In the past, I have taken saphris (sleep was a side effect), trazodone and ambien. Both trazodone and ambien quit working as well over time.
