Have you already established accommodations? If so, and they are not being followed, then I believe you can file a complaint. But I would guess you have to give your employer notice that he is not following your accommodations. This would all need to be in writing.

There are several good websites we investigated to come up with ADA accommodations for bipolar illness. Then you get a letter on a pdoc letterhead and submit it to HR. They will have a meeting (likely) and will agree to your accommodations. If they violate these, etc. then you file a complaint.

If they grievously abused your right as a disabled person, I don't know what the policy is about the ADA unless you arranged accommodations. You might call an employment attorney and check with them.

This is just my experience with all this. Someone else may be different and know more.

Everyone I know that does winds up being “ let go “ a few months later because of some lame reason, like being a few mins late coming back from lunch kinda stuff .

Does your employer know about your Bipolar already?

I should have filed a complaint when my place of employment decided they didn't have to give me accommodations, but I didn't. By the time I was let go, essentially for needing three weeks of medical LOA for a mixed episode, I was so beaten down that I couldn't fight for myself anymore. You have 180 days from the date of the 'offense' to file an ADA complaint, so if you do, it's best to do it right away. I wish you the best of luck.
