In other news, I’m having an EMG test done this month where they stick a needle that is an electrode into your muscle and LEAVE it there while they run tests to check for nerve damage. They said to expect some discomfort. Really? I’m terrified of needles so I’m really dreading this. If anybody has had this done in connection with carpal tunnel, please let me know. Hopefully, the reality is not that bad.

Sending hugs to everyone that is struggling.
Had needles and electronic current used to detect nerve damage in my arms and legs and there was no discomfort but I don't have a problem with needles. I don't watch them stick me tho either. A trick I learned long ago for needles is to clench the opposite arm and relax the arm they are sticking you. It was trickier with the legs but curling the toes of the opposite leg worked. I have nerve damage in both arms and one leg due to spinal disk problems.

Many things are worse - childbirth for 1, perforated ulcer surgery. At least, it doesn't take that long; I'm sure it was over within an hour. I saw a very thorough neurologist too. At the time, I was having numbness & tingling that actually turned out to be vitamin B6 toxicity from a woman's high b6 dosage multi-vitamin and pre-gym drinks. I never realized you could get too much B6, but yes, you can. I think the EMG only discovered what I already knew - that I had carpal tunnel syndrome. But hopefully your test will lead to some answers for your problems.
Thank you for your response! I smiled (I’ve fainted as well). You’re right! I’ve been through IVF and natural child birth...this should be a drop in the bucket. I’m having numbness, tingling and weakness in my right hand so I do hope to get answers. Thanks again.

You are very brave! I’ll implement your tricks during the test. Thank you for your response. I’m sorry you have nerve damage. That must be painful.

I just got word from my brother that our mom has cancer, a 3.5" mass in her lung. The doc says it's inoperable and that she couldn't endure chemo as it would be too hard on her body.

Oh Vertigo, I am so sorry. Is she getting a 2nd opinion? I've found seeing a doctor at a big teaching hospital can get very different results sometimes.

I'm pretty sure they're confident in the biopsy that's been done. It explains the cough she's had for quite some time.

...and thanks to you and Jenn for thoughts and prayers. ...and Innerzone, too.

I got word from my other old supervisor that my job called him and he gave me a favorable reference. I haven’t gotten a call rescinding my job offer yet so hopefully my first supervisor decided to give me a good reference too, or hopefully they cancel out. I will be nervous until I actually start training and can safely say I have the job. I have fingerprinting on Monday but there’s nothing in my background except a couple of speeding tickets years apart. The last time I got a ticket was nearly three years ago and it was because I was hypomanic, of course. I don’t even think the background check looks at minor driving concerns. So the next hurdle is the physical. My back was really hurting me today so I truly hope I can lift the 50lbs. I’m debating still about listing my psych meds on the intake form. On the one hand I don’t want them to find out and know I omitted the information but on the other hand I don’t want to be discriminated against, especially for the haldol. That happened to me last year for my work physical. The np told me I needed psychiatric clearance before she would clear me to work. I was infuriated. How discriminatory!

I’m just praying that everything works out with this new job. Then I will move onto the anxiety about a mood episode appearing and ruining it for me lol.

Jennifer, I am sorry you need an EMG. Everyone I know holds some degree of fear re: EMGs. I have all limbs done once every year. I have sat in with my mother while she has had them done for carpal tunnel. Some people are in pain, while others are not so much, which may or may not be dependent upon their neuromuscular status. While my pain varies with each EMG test, I can say you have very likely endured much more pain in childbirth. I have found calming breaths to be very helpful before and during the procedure. Thinking of you.

I’m so sorry vertigo! That’s terrible. I hope they can figure out some course of treatment to make her comfortable at least, if not cure the cancer. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Please remember to take care of yourself as well.

Me and my daughter had earlier morning allergy appointments. We both have Angioedema and mine is worse. The doctor does not want me to take Ambien anymore. I had a colonoscopy done and there were ulcers found. The doctor said none of the meds I take would cause the ulcers. He gave me a prescription to take to try to treat the ulcers. Also my primary care doctor did blood work right before the procedure. She had her nurse call and tell me I need to do a gluten free diet. I’m going to have to take it serious because other foods are just making me sick. I went to Jimmy Johns just had a simple turkey sandwich and by the time I made it home I was sick to my stomach. I had Panera today, a turkey sandwich on wheat with soup. Then I took my younger daughter to get shoes. I had to sit jump in the shoe store and take deep breaths. My stomach was in knots.

Im not sure but I think I may have taken my seroquel twice last night (total of 900!). I got out of my chair afterdinner and almost... ALMOST fainted! I satdown on the floor FAST!! My daughter checked on me and held my hand and put me to bed. I tried getting up to brush my teeth (my sink is literally 3 steps from my bed) and the same thing happened again. So i crawled back to the bed and didnt even take my contacts out and went to sleep. I feel fine this morning.

I can tell you, definitely treat the ulcers with medication and seriously. I was also told the ulcer had nothing to do with my psych meds or my eating disorder but were caused by a combo of a bacterial infection from Heliobacter pylori and use of NSAIDs. I was taking a prescription for fibromyalgia that had an NSAID in it; I'm sure I read it with the initial facts sheet then forgot about it and thought it was not a big deal (took that medication for years) and taking Excedrin for sinus & stress headaches. I had an ulcer I didn't know about (apparently that happens occasionally), and I ended up with a perforated ulcer, hole through the stomach & duodenum, a condition that without emergency surgery is usually fatal. That surgery was the worst pain I've ever been in and the recovery brutal. Morphine did nothing to touch the pain. I hallucinated for 2-3 days straight, hopefully from the pain & the medication as hallucinations have never been a part of my bipolar issues. It was much worse than childbirth because when you have a baby, you know they will not let you go more than 24 hours before intervening. But the doctors couldn't tell me when I would feel less pain (it was gradual, around 3 weeks post-op) or be back to normal. Foods tasted weird, and I lost a lot of weight even though I was a normal weight to begin with. They said if the ulcer had been treated, I would have never needed the surgery, and that this surgery is now rare in the U.S. I am sure the trauma surgeons and consulting gastroenterologist are busy writing up a paper to publish in some medical journal as they had to use a non-standard part of fat or of my body to close the ulcer because of lack of fat in the usual area, or maybe it's just paranoia. I also ended up with a giant pile of medical bills. I made payment plans with the largest costs, and it will take me 9 years to pay off the hospital bill, paying $65 a month.

I have never been on a gluten-free diet, but my youngest sister had to go on one at the end of her 3rd pregnancy; I don't remember why exactly. It was a couple of months though, and she said it was the hardest dietary restriction she has ever had to follow. She once went on a dairy restriction because she wasn't sure if milk was causing issues with breastfeeding her 2nd baby. Though once you get used to a gluten-free diet, I think it might not be so bad. During the evacuation for hurricane Harvey, we stayed with a woman in her early '70s deep in the Texas Hill Country who lived gluten-free just because she felt it was better overall for her health and had been doing it for years and seemed happy and well enough, actually quite vigorous, going for 45 minute walks 5-6 days a week, hosting Bible studies twice a week, taking us on local tours around her town, which had a lot of pretty undeveloped landscapes and a wonderful park with so much playground equipment that my daughter loved. I was actually very sad to leave her even though we only met because of the evacuation; she had been a bridesmaid in my mother-in-law's wedding and moved from California to Texas, which is how we ended up staying with her. My mother-in-law asked her.

I am here today. I got decent sleep, and my UTI is clearing up. It is also the last day I am taking off jogging. I can’t stand not going any more. I would have gone this morning, but I woke up too late. Once the sun is out, I just get too hot, and I know a few of the meds I‘m on say not to overheat on the facts sheets. I am a bit anxious. My mood is OK, not high, not low.

We are also changing TV/internet providers today as our contract with xfinity is up, and they will not negotiate much in the way of a lower bill, so we are going back to U-verse, which of course has a good promo for some months, maybe a year; I am not sure. They are supposed to come between 8 and noon. Of course, since I am up, it will likely be closer to noon when they show up. Murphy’s Law.

Why does it gross you out to take a shower? Taking one is a good; you are giving yourself the gift of taking care of yourself.
