I have taken everything under the sun. Right now I take ambien and thorazine a pretty potent combo but it works for me. Yes I have had meds just poop out on me. I wish you the best in finding something that works for you.

In addition to meds I stop looking at a screen about an hour before falling asleep, I do deep breathing and mindfulness exercises.

No technology for at least an hour before bed, and read a book for that last hour

Whenever I have started a new job, I always go through a period where the excitement of it all causes me to sleep less. If the job ends up being routine, I will settle down after a while but if it ends up being a stressfull job, my sleep problems continue on and off.

I simply learned I usually can still function on less sleep. I go into the job with the attitude that I can't let the lack of sleep interfere with my life and cope with the aftermath (double checking my work, etc) as it comes.

I just look at it as there are some things that we can't change and try to enjoy the extra time I have because I sleep less.

Sorry you are struggling with this. Less sleep does effect your concentration but you can still muddle through.

this can be an issue going to sleep or in my case staying asleep ... if I have any thing on my mind it is not going to work ... I write down these ideas and questions ... if I get up during night same thing ... now with no possibably of forgeting my mind relaxes and off I go ...

if you really need a quick fix, restoril...I think the biggest capsule is 30mgs. now and then, you'll find a shrink who prescribes Halcion. other than that...

long term, the benzodiazepines, less often the barbiturates (fun fact: Seconal is now available, again...why, I"m not really sure...) aren't the best solution. the experts say to see about limiting what you use your bed and bedroom for, if possible. limiting caffeine and/or alcohol intake overall, and definitely closer to bedtime. and...

keep an eye on your daily Rx drugs, too. antihistamines can cause sedation or make sleep difficult, for some people...the psych drugs can cause unpredictable reactions, too....and the daily maintenance meds, for stuff like hypertension, cholesterol, etc. can sometimes cause problems, including drug-induced depression.

hope this helps.

If you like using your computer before bed, try f.lux. (Yes, it's spelled f.lux)

f.lux: software to make your life better

Lots of my friends in university used it. I personally don't need it since I'm so used to using electronics before bed, but there is psychology behind it.

edit: I think you can get it for your phone as well, but only if your phone is Android. I've heard that iPhones have something equivalent built in, but I don't know what it is, as I don't have an iPhone anymore.

I have suffered with sleep problems for a long time, but recently had luck with cold water therapy. I sleep much better now than I ever have. So I basically take the coldest shower possible every day.

I believe saunas are also supposed to have similar effects, but have not tried them personally.

I also use a blue light filter on my phone and just try to avoid using my phone in the afternoon. Avoid all blue light, not just your phone. Also, try to expose yourself to as much sun as possible when you first wake up. I also sleep with ear plugs. You also want to sleep in a cold room, but warm your feet and hands if possible. Regular exercise is also very helpful. I'm pretty sure all the advise I'm giving is backed up by science I've read about at one point or another, but I don't have time right now to go digging to find the references. I hope some of this helps.
