Most days I get 10 hours of sleep, which seems to be fine to get me through the day. However, on the weekends, I usually sleep from 13 to 15 hours.

I've checked my meds, and none cause oversleeping. They usually cause insomnia.

Do you think low-level depression could do this to a person? I'm not severely depressed.

Definitely could be depression. Mine causes me to sleep almost all day when its really bad. I don't have a solution- wish I did!

Low level depression could. The shorter days don't help either.

Low level or situational depression could be the cause.

I don't sleep enough.

I don't really need it, but I certainly don't get the suggested 8 hours (or is it 7)

in any case I don't get it

I did when I was on Clozaril; I would sleep 13-14 hours, and wake up and take a 2 hour nap later in the day. I'm off Clozaril now and have trouble sleeping. Depression could also be a cause for a lot of people, but I tend to not sleep when depressed.

I sleep excessively. I go to bed very very early on weeknights and usually end up sleeping for about 10 hours (yet still woken up by my alarm and very tired) and on weekends, sleep for some 15 hours.

When I was on Seroquel, I blamed it on that. Now that I'm on klonopin, I blame it on that. But I don't know. I do know it's not depression, though. There has to be some other reason. And maybe for you, it's neither meds nor depression. I would check in with yourself and see how you're feeling, both physically and mentally.

It might be a good idea to check in with your PCP and get some labs done. I have borderline anemia, don't know how long I've had it, but it may play a role. Anyway, might be a good idea to get checked out, to cover all the bases.

I hope you find the reason and are able to get on a more regular sleep schedule.

I sleep a lot. I can easily sleep 16 hours. I’m not on meds and I’m not depressed. I just really like to sleep.

My sleep is very erratic. Some times I oversleep and other times I under-sleep. Depression is one factor, but sometimes it’s bad sleep hygiene. 9 times out of 10 my body will oversleep if I don’t make myself get out of bed when my alarm goes off. I also oversleep after a night or two of under-sleeping. I usually end up regretting it.

Depression can cause me to sleep all day.

But there could also be physical factors involved. When was the last time you got a blood test? Low Vitamin D, iron, or thyroid can cause fatigue. It may be a good idea to check it out. I was low in Vitamin D and iron, so now I take supplements.

My sleep varies a lot. I go through times where I'm sleeping anywhere from 12 to 16 hours then times where I can hardly even get a couple hours each night. It's so frustrating because several years ago I was in a perfect routine, I slept 8 hours every night. Now it's a complete mess and I've been trying to regulate it for well over a year or two with no luck.

Sleep and energy levels are usually the first sign something's off for me, especially this time of year. I can sleep 16 hours and not have the energy to do my laundry for a month (ie past few months) and not feel traditionally depressed. Once that starts interfering with my life (not making it to class, not getting work done, people noticing my lack of clean clothes), the more traditional psychic symptoms start to show up in earnest.

It becomes a feedback loop for me. My lack of sleep/energy-based depression causes me to neglect my obligations to the point where it triggers my worthlessness/you're so stupid-based depression which then reinforces my energy-based depression.

Based off of personal experience, look into it. Might save you a lot of trouble.

Sleeping excessively is one of the signs that I’m headed into a depression.
