I’m struggling immensely. I have stayed under carbs all week but I was sooooo hungry! No matter how much protein I ate I was starving. I did an experiment today and ate whatever I wanted and ended up eating almost 3000 calories and I’m still absolutely famished. Something is terribly wrong but I don’t know what. My blood work didn’t show anything. I don’t know what to do. Nothing fills me up. Not protein, not carbs. And it’s not the type of hunger I had before. It’s a horrible empty feeling in my stomach. I have no choice but to get used to it because no amount of food seems to help.

I don’t even WANT to eat though. Usually when I’m this hungry I crave something but I’m just looking for anything to fill me up, not anything specific.

Well since I know now that carbs won’t fill me up, I’m back on low carb tomorrow. I boiled some eggs to eat for breakfast along with my protein shake. Not sure what I’ll do for lunch. I meant to get more protein bars today but I hate the grocery store on the weekend. Too many people and not enough registers. I’ll go tomorrow.

Gosh I hope I get used to this hunger. I can’t stand it.

Anyone have any ideas about how to dress up brown rice that keeps it mostly healthy??
Finely dice onion, carrot and celery. Cook until softened and then add to rice. Throw in handful of almonds, raisins, pine nuts and shredded coconut.
Add dressing/sauce made with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, red wine vinegar, cumin, small amt of crushed garlic

We have the same thing going on with feta here. More for me!

I've been spreading my time around a bit more lately. My family takes up the majority of my time each day, but I've needed a mental challenge and I've been working on that. It is helping me to push myself a little and keep things balanced. I'm taking great care not to push too hard because I don't want to induce mania. Essentially, I'm striving to keep things in the Goldilocks zone So far, so good!

I've been doing much better with my fuel choices too. I ate a lot of treats and heavy foods over the holiday and it feels better to be on a lighter path. My body seems grateful.

I do miss being around more. I feel like I'm missing out. I am making sure I pop by enough not to lose touch. You guys are very important to me!

I admire you for pushing yourself into things but being smart about it !!

I like sweet onions, garlic and low-sodium tamari sauce.

Another might be a variation of pork fried rice?

I was on an elimination diet once. I had started with brown rice. I had eventually been able to add apples. I was very limited on foods for breakfast, I ate brown rice with apples and cinnamon almost every morning. (I would cut up the apples and place into a small bowl. I would add a lot of cinnamon. I heated this in a microwave. I would then heat up the pre-cooked brown rice, pouring the apple/cinnamon mixture on top of the hot rice. It was my favorite breakfast for many years.

I ate a lot of brown rice and various seaweeds when on a macrobiotic diet.

Also made brown rice sushi. (Skipped the raw fish and used veggies only.)

Brown rice topped with kimchee/kimchi.

Will continue to think on this. .

Oooooo great ideas !!!! Thank thank thank you

I will say we cut down on restaurants a lot.

I was trying to think about what we spend most on in the grocery store. The sad reality for us is that fruits and veggies are among the biggest expense. Yes, we prefer the fresh stuff, and not just carrots and cabbage. I have switched to frozen fish/seafood, saving good money on that, and more often buy the cheapest pork chops and chicken legs instead of breasts. I even sometimes buy cheap whole chickens and cut them up myself. Dairy adds up, too.

It's almost like people are forced not to eat healthy because of the costs. That is such a shame!

Yes it is kinda a slap in the face when you realize just how much money can be spent on food. As you know I did a mass overhaul.

There are certain fruits and veggies I still do only fresh but I have found about 75% I’m fine with frozen.

I think one of the smartest things my husband and I did was start sharing one chicken breast, they are so big anyway.

It is cheaper to eat junk processed food, go out to any fast food a nasty burger fries and drink is 5 bucks but salads are 7-8 an up. Crazy !

It’s good that your blood work came back okay. But being left feeling starving is a horrible feeling.

Are you still trying to quit smoking along with changing eating habits ? If you are that could be the problem, 2 huge changes in your life might be too much at once. Pick one then move onto the other once the first has been working for a month or so.

Do you drink a full glass of water 20 mins before each meal ?

I absolutely understand feeling absolutely starved feeling it’s horrible

I hate that your going through this

I am sorry you are struggling. yes quitting smoking could be causing these cravings for you.
drink as much water and tea coffee as you can stand that will help with your hunger feelings.
sorry it is so hard.

HI, I am sorry you've been having a challenging time.

I know that type of hunger and it do not like it! I do not know what causes this in every case of my own experiences, except some meds , eating too many carbs and not enough protein. You know the deal.

I see you had been eating enough protein and lower carbs and still having hunger issues. I am wondering if you have been including any healthy fats?

We need healthy fats and they can help to satiate appetites.

Many people exclude healthy fats when changing their lifestyle in hopes of losing weight.

Here is a link on consuming healthy fats while losing weight:

I hope something here proves helpful!

I air fried some wings tonight and barely brushed them with a teriyaki glaze, I know , bad sugar ! But it was a very small amount.

Tonight is the first night my husband didn’t need a snack after dinner. Ive had a few cravings after dinner for a snack but instead I drink a lot of water and go brush my teeth.. brushing my teeth is a good deterrent to eating again.... minty fresh !

I initially woke up with severe thirst, so drank a whole bunch of water very quickly. Then I woke up feeling very sick, with nausea, headache, sweating, body aches and weakness. I feel bad, but I could not accompany my husband to his appointment to Philadelphia. Believe me that I would have if I felt OK, despite disliking those appointments. Hubby was understanding about it. I do hope he doesn't need an injection in his eye. That would make his drive home very unpleasant.

I don't know what is wrong with me. I felt mildly depressed yesterday, but didn't have any physical symptoms like I have today. I do feel I overdid last night's dinner. It was too much, but I felt pressured because the meat was thawed and set out to come to room temp.

Thanks! I am still not feeling well, but luckily not as unwell as yesterday. Hubby is staying home today, which he often does after getting the injections in his eye. At least I put a simple breakfast on the table, but not until 9 am, which is way later than usual.

My husband wonders if something might have been wrong with the pork roast I made, the day before yesterday. He wants to throw out all of the leftovers. Food poisoning? He says that even he has felt a bit unwell.

I'm feeling pretty good lately. I've been eating well and I'm working to reduce my intake of caffeine. I'm down to one cup in the morning. I've been drinking fruit teas instead when I want something warm.

I've been able to stay on track with my workouts. My body is used to it now and it has just become a part of my everyday life like washing my face or putting clothes on. I did a decent amount of research lately about how the brain stores information and works with thought patterns. I feel like I am over the hump of thinking about exercise like work to do and now I approach it more like an expression of self love I'm regularly offering. That has made a huge difference for me.

I offer everyone support in their journey to overcome or make it through any health challenges you are experiencing. For those who are feeling well, I hope the trend continues!

I caught a bad cold and have the chills, feel congested, throat hurts, and just feeling so bad overall. I have work tomorrow and hate letting everyone down, but I think I have no choice but to go to the doctor and get a note. I probably need to get one for at least tomorrow and the next day. My goal is to be back Thursday, but it's hard to tell when I'll get better from this. As far as my mental health goes, things are getting increasingly stressful at work. I wake up with a sense of dread daily, cannot focus, feel extremely anxious and run down. It is getting so bad that when I qualify for FMLA (which will be in a few months), I might need to go out on leave. I'm just hanging on by a thread here.

That's good you're seeing the doctor. Hopefully he/she can give you advice on how to get past it quickly. No one can fault you for taking that kind of precaution.

It's terrible when you wake up with dread about a job. I've been there. I hope if a leave is best that you take it sooner than later.

I feel pretty good today. The last remnant of my GI issues is resolved. The redness on my face has reduced, but though hubby doesn't see it, I still do, a little.

I haven't weighed myself for well over a week, but I don't think I've gained anything. If I have, I will be very surprised. I don't feel like I've overeaten. Plus, my smaller jeans seem to be fitting even better. I hadn't been in this size for quite a long time, but have been wearing them again since around the holidays. If my weight is still high, I don't quite know how to explain this phenomena. There was a time when I was the last weight I saw where I couldn't even begin to button these jeans.

Since hubby has been on blood pressure medication, his blood pressure has totally normalized. It's even better than mine, and blood pressure has never been an issue for me. Only cholesterol and triglycerides, mostly. Hubby takes a statin for that, too. I'm thinking he'll be much healthier than me. We really do want to lose weight. We'll likely be visiting family in Europe in May. They're all trim, or mostly trim. My s-i-l says my husband looks "nine months pregnant". He actually does, but his legs and butt are trim. Last time we were there his sister bragged about losing weight. She then said "BirdDancer, I have some large jeans that don't fit me anymore. Would you like them?" That burned me up! Actually, they were too large for me, too. One other time, another b-i-l of his was calling hubby fat, but at the time I was a bit slimmer. He looked at me and said "You look trimmer than I remember you." [Kinda sorta a compliment?????] Another issue when visiting his family is that they like to take ultra long hikes. Like 10 kilometers in the mountains. I confess that I'm not quite up to that right now.

A warm hello to all!

I have taken the day away from some of the very stressful tasks today....at least any I could control. I could use another day like this one. I have mostly rested and vegged out. I am quite weary, much more than I had realized. I have had a lot going on for far too long and just need some solitude. I could use at least a week of it; however, deadlines continue and I need to address them. I do wish more of this "busy--ness" was of a more pleasant nature. Thankfully, things change in time.

I am hoping, with all that has been completed thus far, I can pace myself and have some time to decompress every day now.

I am drifting off as I write. I should go before I write something self- incriminating!

Thanks so much, everyone, for sharing here. I enjoy reading even when I am not able to write every day.

Yay!!! I feel that you have been running on fumes for too long with all that you have on your plate. Here’s to more recuperative days!

It's terrible when you wake up with dread about a job. I've been there. I hope if a leave is best that you take it sooner than later.
Thank you, Bird Dancer. I'm trying to hang in there in the meantime.
