So I know in general where some people who post on the bipolar disorders board are located, but it's nice to know what state or country we're in when we discuss weather and events that occur in/around our location. If you're into it, post where you're located (in general, obviously) and just for fun, what you like and don't like about the state or country you live in.

I'm born, raised, & live in northern California. About 90 miles west of where I live is the Pacific Ocean (Pacific is a sweet word, it means "peace"). About 400 miles to the east is Nevada. 500 or so miles to Los Angeles and about 400 miles to Oregon. California is a huge state!

I love & appreciate so much about this state...all the varieties of geography (ocean, mountains, flatlands, forest, rivers, lakes, our huge trees that grow so big because the sun is very high, the redwoods - which are a temperate climate zone & the only place redwoods grow in the world are along the Calif/Oregon coasts). The rich agriculture. The vibrant history. It's absolutely gorgeous here. I love the diversity, so many cultures, so much creativity.

What don't I like? You guessed it. The cost of living is outrageous. Prohibitive. Right now the cost of gas is pennies under $6/gallon. Everything...rents are off the hook. And so on.

Next...

I live in Kentucky....not too far from Louisville. Pronounced lull-vul locally. I live in a rural area where we raise hay, tobacco, kids and tomatoes. Literally...my high school is surrounded by cattle fields. We even drove our tractors to school once day each school year.

I'm living in my husband's native country of Czech Republic now, in its second largest city of Brno in the region of Moravia, know for its wines. We are kind of on the outskirts in a more village-like environment with forests and Moravian hills and meadows nearby. Across the street are the latter two. A beautiful view! Many mornings when I wake up, I hear the call of a pheasant that lives there. My city is only 140 km (87 miles) north of Vienna, Austria (52 km/32 miles from the Austrian border) and 205 km (127 miles) southeast of the capital city of Prague, which is in the Bohemian region (known for its beer). Brno is barely further east than Vienna. Prague is a bit further west than Vienna. I live a bit closer to Paris, France than to Moscow, Russia. Many don't know this about Czech Republic's geography. We're in Central Europe, geographically. The "Eastern" aspect is that Czech is a Slavic language speaking country, but one that uses the Latin alphabet (Western Slavic) like Polish and select others. Not cyrillic, like Russian and most Eastern Slavic family languages.

I'm a native of Central New Jersey in the US. Deeply rooted there. I will always have a love for it, even if I am not living there.

I live in Australia. Grew up in Sydney but moved to a country town a few years ago so now live about 2.5 hrs from Sydney and 2.5hrs from Canberra (Australia’s capital city which is actually pretty small compared to Sydney). Also about 2hrs away from beaches. It’s not as hot where I live now but there’s more of a bushfire threat in summer and it’s a lot colder in winter and snows sometimes.

I'm from Scotland (East Coast) I live about 2 hours from Glasgow and Edinburgh so not too far away for day trips etc

I love the fact that Scotland is so nice scenery wise and ww are very historical and patriotic FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE and all that lol I do not want independence just yet though. But we are getting close to it. We do look pretty in the snow though. Then there is the bagpipes and Scottish dancing. Not to mention The Edinburgh Military Tattoo and The Edinburgh Fringe which happens most years albeit covid in July- September. Our accents are pretty awesome too but try and understand a Glaswegian or Aberdonian accent your scunnered (a goner)

I hate the weather at times.... its raining majority of the time or it's cold like our lowest was -10 degrees celsius but I bet its been lower.

There aren't much I dislike about Scotland I have to admit though I dislike how I sound. My accent is rather weird. I can sound quite orry at times meaning I sound like a commoner. You know how we all have our posh telephone voice lol well I would prefer to speak like that all the time lol.

Honestly though come for a visit to Scotland it's a great wee place. Full of rich history and amazing scenery

I'm from New Hampshire, about half an hour to Boston, an hour to Vermont, an hour to Maine, and 2.5 hours to Quebec. The skiing's good, the hiking's better, the weather's wild (Home to Mt. Washington: the worst recorded weather in the world), don't expect to have cell service if you're anywhere but Southern NH.

I like it here most of the time and when I don't like it, it's not hard to get somewhere else.

From a small city in upstate New York (the capitol region), lived in a few different states over the years (Kentucky, Virginia, Florida), moved back to my hometown here in NY 6 years ago and am very happy to be back here.

I like that public transportation is readily available. I also like that there are a lot of nice natural places like the Adirondack mountains are fairly close. There's a good balance of city and nature. I don't like how people throw their trash all over the place and I don't like how high rent is around here.

I live just outside Toronto in Canada.

I really like the landscape here and there are lots of provincial/state parks close by and within hours driving distance. I'm about 2 hours from Niagara Falls. I also like the healthcare here, even if we have to wait for it sometimes.

I don't like the high taxes we pay here. We have high income tax and high consumption taxes (sales tax, alcohol tax, gas tax etc) on just about everything which makes life expensive.

I live 45 minutes to an hour west of Detroit, Michigan. Lived here most of my life except when my ex was in grad school- then we lived in New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Boston. I was born in Texas but we moved to Michigan when I was 2. I've been to the Upper Peninsula, Interlochen music camp and Sleeping Bear Dunes, to name a few places. The Great Lakes are huge! It's like staring out into the ocean- no land to be seen!

Foot care is sooo important (as you know).

Yeah, you're sure in hurricane territory. My husband was stationed in Louisiana at Fort Polk, so up north near Shreveport. When I was in the south people were so friendly.

The real rural south. I've never been on a tractor, but it sounds like fun! Where I live is a huge tomato growing region, too. There's a tomato canning plant not far from my apartment and in July the air absolutely reeks of tomatoes.

Your location sounds enchanting. A region of the world I'd like to visit.

I'm curious...is the heat of summer dry or humid?

Do you miss living in a city, or do you prefer the country town? I've heard that the beaches in Australia are really nice. We have both the beaches and the wildfires here, too

I didn't know that it snows in Australia! I'm learning a lot from this thread

I would love to visit Scotland. My grandfather was of Scottish descent. I was in Ireland a few years ago and found it absolutely enchanting. I know Ireland is not part of the UK of course, but I think such things as the weather are quite the same. Very refreshing...misty.

Scotland's history is amazing, so rich. When you say "independence" do you mean independence from the rest of the UK? I had no idea that Scotland was considering independence anymore.

Will there be any celebration in Scotland for HM's upcoming jubilee?

Hi Birdie! My family was from NYC and my mom always said that upstate NY was absolutely gorgeous. I feel very attached to NYC and would love to visit upstate. Having a good balance of city and nature is ideal, I think.

Yes independence from the rest of the UK we just had an local election and the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) got high votes meaning our First Minister (Scotland's version of Prime Minister in England). Nicola Sturgeon the First Minister says she might do another referendum. Which goes against her original statement in 2016 of once in a life time vote for independence.

We are getting 2nd and 3rd June off for The Queen's 70th Reign. Pubs are open for longer too etc. Think the local councils here will do something. England throws Street parties etc but that's not a thing up here that I know of

Autumn is beautiful here, especially up north. I have a love/hate relationship with Boston. Every time I go down there it's for something fun (concerts, the ski expo, etc) but it's way too easy to get lost.

Yeah Canada is a beautiful place. Our summers are so short so people really get out and enjoy the landscape.

Free healthcare is great, every visit is covered whether for a checkup or major surgery.

Sometimes we do have to wait for care, like I had to for my pdoc - I waited 6 months for a referral to my pdoc. Then I had to wait another year for a referral to a therapist.

But when it's medically necessary the system works really quickly like it did for my emergency surgery last summer.

And so on.

Next...

Whoops, I guess I made some errors. Actually, I live about 75 miles from the Pacific Ocean (which is west) and about 145 miles from the Nevada border (which is east). Nevada is closer than I thought, haha.

We are getting 2nd and 3rd June off for The Queen's 70th Reign. Pubs are open for longer too etc. Think the local councils here will do something. England throws Street parties etc but that's not a thing up here that I know of

All fascinating! Do you think Scotland will become independent?
