I think my last one was 296.4 yesterday. I dunno why. It was my social worker and she seemed really pleased with our conversation but stated that what we were talking about was "really important".

I never heard of that ? But I know for SSD or SSI you have to be between a 35 to 50 score its called a GAF score . Below 35 you have to be hospitalized & or have full time care takers. Above a 50 you are able to work. Most people far between a 70 to 100 but people with bipolar rare get above 70.Its funny Ive become a expert on this %#@&#! .

Funny you mention that, it seems like the number 23 keeps popping up everywhere.

Just kidding.

The GAF score is part of Axis Five diagnosis. It's an overall indicator of your psychosocial functioning.

The DSM details Five Axis of Diagnosis. I won't get into details, I find them pretty silly and it's not required to use the Axis Diagnosis system.

The ICD-9 code is required by insurance and medical authorities. Any mental health provider must use them as part of an indentifiable system.

Most psychologists I know do not think in the form of the DSM. It's merely a requirement they consult after speaking with the patient.

I don't know anyone except for billing coders that memorize the ICD-9 code!
