I was wondering if any of the other person here on PC that deals with PAIN and MEDICAL DISORDERS that included FATIGUE tend to get really tired and physically drained after taking a 15 minute shower..... doing it all - body, hair and shaving both legs?
I am asking for I just took my shower for the day and I had to take a little longer for it was SUNDAY..... leg shaving day - lol - and now I am totally wasted, so wasted that I am going to lay down on my bed and rest a while. I will check back for any replies after I get a little rest, so I can stop feeling so shaky, jittery, and physically unable to even stand..... and YES, I have eaten. Thanks... Sure, that can happen. So many factors, imo, contribute to it, such as how tired you were when you began, how hot the water and how you respond to it, etc. Fifteen minutes is my limit for heat or cold, btw.
Do you have a shower chair to sit in? They're great! I think you will feel ok after a short rest, at least I hope so. The heat will help your muscles recover sooner perhaps? All of life with chronic pain is compensation. ![]()

my biggest problem is getting my right foot over the bath tub to get into shower, I can do 10 min. max then need hubby to help me out, no shaving of legs for me I use Nair

In My opinion bathing can be the most exhausting activity, especially if your including dressing in there. Man, there have been times when I have felt like I needed to have someone else bathe me. At these times I usually end up with my head in the sink and hubby washing my hair. Legs? Guess I AM from another planet.

Phooie Spit Spit. I guess I better be on the look out, for it seems that another flare up of PAIN is on its way..... after about 12 days of low level discomfort.... I did not want to scare the doctor...... ROFL! ![]() ![]() ![]() LoVe, Rhapsody - ![]() ...Maybe I will need to look into one of those bathing chairs? |

Hi, I struggle with the entire bathing process myself and with chronic pain. I find that before even beginning to bath that I begin to have anxiety about the entire process meaning most likely I am about to go to the doctor or an appointment as well as the physical toll it takes on me from the start to finish.
I have found some things that help me, and I am so thankful not to have to think about having to shave my legs, as I would have to go hairy! I do time myself and allow myself 15-minutes max shower time. I also have to force myself to follow the strict washing of the hair, body, and feet only one time each. I have also OCD which compells me to want to wash in a ritual type way too complicated system and leaves me exhausted to say the least. I have for several years now beginning my shower with having clean towels in the reclining chair, and sleep area, and put the towels down on seat of it and back of the chair and do not attempt never could work anyway, dressing and completely drying in the bathroom. I have all ready for the shower ahead of time. One big help I have found in drying off the body after the shower is an article I was reading a few years ago saying that a Terry Cloth Robe soon out of the shower can really help in the absorbsion of excess water and reduce the time it takes to dry off from the shower and have been following that every time I shower to drip a bit and then on with the robe and to the chair where I keep my hygeine supplies and have my clothes laid out before hand and anything else I may need between post shower and leaving the apartment. The robe has really helped me alot, also says good idea for those who suffer from breathing problems also. I am glad to know I am not alone in the shower situation and the struggle in doing so. take care and have a good day ![]()

We changed from bathtub to shower only as it was too hard to step over the bath part onto the floor at the end and I was terrified of slipping. But showering, with the warmth, as much as it helps the aches and pains with the warmth, it makes me weary too sometimes.

When I first found out I had cancer and was doing treatment for it taking a bath or shower just left me so tired so I started taking showers with a chair. - I would put a towel down in the bottom of the tub and put t he chair on top of the towel then while sitting adjust the water and then turn on the shower. When I was done I had not a towl but a folded sheet to wrap up in while I sat there taking my time if sliding my feet over the tub side. Being already raised to the right height because of sitting on the chair it wasnt too hard to do this. Then I would transfer myself from the chair in the tub to a dry chair outside the tub and sit there drying off and getting dressed. then using my crutches off I went to bed or the couch for a nap. Even now because of my cerebral palsy eith muscle spasms sometimes I have to have things set up so that I go from tub to chair to crutches from the bath or shower.

Grab bars are a must! Rubber backed mats on the floor, or rubber mats in the water area are also needed. (Gotta like the terry robes

yea I know but I rent not own so I can't put in grab bars they also don't allow rubber mats in the rub becuase it leaces a mark in the tub so they have to replace the whole tub from renter to renter becuase no one wants to rent with stained facilities and other nonsense I was told. so I have to make due with what I have a towel and chairs and my crutches. i have a non slip carpeted mat outside the tub that I place the chair on and love your idea of a terry robe. I might just get one of those.

I don't know what I would do without my hot showers. I have gotten to the point where I just stand in the shower & let the water wash all the crap I am going through wash away (or at least that is how it makes me feel). There are days when I have the need to take several showers a day when I feel the need to wash my anxiety away. My anxiety has been so bad at times, I have actually passed out. Luckily I didn't hurt myself, but it was scarry coming to on the bottom of the tub.
The heat is really relaxing, except for the fact that I put my pain patches on my chest & heat isn't good for that because it causes the fentynal to be absorbed quicker. The great relaxing feeling I get from standing under the hot water washing everything away is needed so bad & don't care about anything else. I also love the water washing over my hair too. I know it isn't good to wash hair that often, but too bad for that too. I need the relaxation I get from the shower. I also realize now what it is like to not be able to shower by myself. A few years ago, I was having parkinson's symptoms. I couldn't walk myself into the bathroom let along get into the tub or coordinate my hands to wash myself. My husband had to help me walk into the bathroom & he had to wash me & my hair. It was a horrible feeling to be that dependent on someone for something that I thought was so simple as taking a shower. After that experience, I can truely appreciate the ability to enjoy taking my own shower & be able to just stand there & let the water wash everything away. Debbie
