May I vent for a moment?

I have insomnia as part of my bipolar disorder. Sleep is very important for me yet one of my biggest hurdles in managing my MI.

Great news. I'm sleepy! This is great.

However, I'm wracked with pain (neck and back). A 7 on a 1-10 scale. It's keeping me awake.

Anyone deal with this issue? I wish I could get my body and mind to cooperate so I can sleep.

I feel responsible, too. A triggering event earlier made my neck and back severely tense up. I didn't realize it as I was affected by the trigger. I think I could have prevented this high pain level if I'd had the awareness.

Does this happen to anyone here? Any tips?

Thanks for listening. I hope you all are hanging in there.

I have schizoaffective disorder, major depressive type. I know your pain all too well. I've turned to alcohol, OTC sleeping pills, anything to try to sleep to get a break. It rarely works. I just get to a point where I crash because I have absolutely no energy what so ever. The house could burn down around me and I would be asleep like a rock. I have a weird sleeping pattern. I'm either awake for what feels like forever or I finally crash and spend 24 hours asleep. The lack of sleep makes my hallucinations and depression much worse. The longer without sleep, the more the pain increases and my brain starts ****ing with me. If it wasn't for one of best friends, I wouldn't know when I'm behind completely delusional or not. Pain + lack of sleep = horrible.

I feel you. I just wish I had a solution to help you. Have you tried plain melotonin? The kind sold in the vitamin section? Not the ones that have all kinds of things added. Just straight 10mg melotonin? That will sometimes knock me out. But it's rare. It doesn't stop me from taking them nightly though.

Been there, doing it , bought the ugly tshirts . Ugh just ugh !

Chronic insomnia since age 12 , fibro pain always at a 7 or above, never ending.

How do I deal ? Well I got all kinds of pissed off last year and decided if I slept I slept if I didn't I didn't , I honestly didn't care!

By changing my mind set about sleep and how most people in my life sleep every damn day. I was able to calm things down a bit. I still don't worry about sleep until I hit about day 5 then it becomes an issue.

Of course pain normally lessens when a person does get a break by sleeping.

I hope you find some relief ((((( hugs))))))

Thanks, Christina! I'm similar as to the sleep issue...I get wonky by day 4. But then I usually conk out from physical exhaustion and wake up several hours later and I'm good to go. It's just my pattern and it isn't surprising. Runs in the family. My daughter already has insomnia, too. Everyone on my mom's side lol just busy bees at night. Ah, well lol....I quit stressing about it, it doesn't change things. I've been working on trying hard to change what I can change and accepting what I cannot. Also, I know we all get unexpected change and that's totally out of my control. Just attack it when it happens, do my best.

Hope everyone is feeling relatively well.

Thanks for replying.

I haven't gotten melatonin yet...seeing pdoc soon. I figured I'd run it by him. I respect him, he's a good doctor and I'm on a handful of meds. Playing it safe.

Hubby has degenerative disc disease and a shoulder that goes in and out of socket along with all his mental issues. Benadryl helped hubby sleep before they put him on Clonidine. Personally I can't take Benadryl or i feel drugged for DAYS afterwards but it worked wonders for him.

I hope you find something that works for you and you can get some good sleep.

Thanks! Benadryl makes me super hyper, it's strange. It seems to have the opposite effect on most people.

No sleep last night so extra pain this morning. Going with a hot shower, that helps a bit.
