How do you cope with pain, other than through the use of medication/therapy for pain?

I mean when you are home, and nothing else seems to be working and you just have to get through the pain.

Rainbowzz I have a typed out list on a blue piece of paper, so all my doctor has to do is remind me to read the "blue sheet." You probably understand that when in extreme pain you often forget what to do, as you're so busy reacting to the pain. How Do You Cope With Pain (home remedies) At least that's me.

So here's my blue sheet list:

TRANCE (think purple)
TENS
a/c cold (for nerve pain)
Braces
Breathe
CD -meditation
Cool swim
Hand massager (trigger points)
Hair dryer (instant heat)
Heating pad
Hot bath (muscles)
Ice Pack
Ice massage
Infrared lamp
Long socks (leg pain)
Leg raise with opposite leg resistance (sciatic)
Marble (calming)
Qi gong
Recliner (heat massage)
Splints
Stretching
Tennis balls (trigger points)
Cognac

No walking in bare feet!
No sitting in bed!

I have never thought of making a list to help me remember...my brain has decided to take a permanent vacation...as far as the answer to home remedies for pain

ice(frozen peas) packs on head, neck, shoulders for headache, earache, swollen allergy eyes.

heat pad for cramps in tummy and pms

no bare feet

laying or reclining and putting feet up for throbbing burning in legs

lotion of rubbing/massaging 'tight' spots

routine...doing something that will make me feel i accomplished something...small steps, like going n emptying dishwasher, reasting, going back, filling it, going back and cleaning sink...feels good...

petting my cat when i am nauseous

soemtimes i talk and babble and act funny because I am trying to stay busy, thoughtless, blank and not feel the pain...so there is a lot of outside noise; i keep tv on in living and bed rooms so i can listen to others problems...

anyway...i don't do much besides complain...hugs-melanie

The "marble" is a tool the pain/stress management psychologist gave me. We worked in session with rolling it around in my hand and meditating and with his suggestions of calming and focusing, now when I roll it around in my hand, it allows my unconscious to begin to calm me. Actually, I can physically think about the marble and have the same effect, whether I have it in hand or not.

qi gong is a form of Tai Chi, which also puts the body into a calming rhythm with meditation and focus.

Remember, pain is subjective and by being so YOU can learn to control it to great extent. LOL when someone says "it's all in your head" well, in some ways they are right (though they don't mean it to be nice imo.) If the brain does not interpret the pain messages as pain, then you won't feel it. If you can thwart those messages through refocusing, you can change the subjective interpretation your mind normally makes.

It's bad enough to have the body experience pain, but to realize the pain is worse. What I mean is that, though we can interrupt the pain message so it's never interpreted as pain, the body is still experiencing some distress. It's bad enough to have that distress, but worse still to realize it as pain. (Have I totally confused everyone now?) How Do You Cope With Pain (home remedies)

"Pain" is given to us so we know something is wrong in the body. If we already know what's wrong, there is no more reason for the "pain message" and thus ok to interrupt or cancel that message.

That you can learn to have "mind over matter" in no way diminishes the reality that you have something that is causing pain. Gaining control over your pain is a process that I have not yet fully mastered, but plan on! I wish all to join me on this path, that though I resisted and didn't understand it when I first began it, find it rewarding now.

When a really bad attack hits me, I hobble to my recliner, with my heated flax seed slipper(my foot gets really cold), I put my icepack on my lower back , I sit kind of funny, pull a quilt up and my little dog snuggles in and he knows I'm hurt'n so he just stays by my side.,I drink a pot of strong coffee, and if none of that works, I crawl into bed and do "imagery" like...a knife being slowly pulled out of where it hurts, or if my leg and foot are hurting, and cold, I picture a long crystal clear icicle slowly melting and the warm sun on a sandy beach warming my leg up! and then I find the most comfortable position and usually fall asleep.

men losing there hair..should never try to grow it long,it looks like %#@&#! hair off a billy goat, and never, never, ever do a sweep over!! it looks ridiculous, and if some one has told you differ, they were just saying it so you wouldn't cry!!

This information may be helpful:

Wyndmere ACHES & PAINS is a pre-blend of essential oils. The label states– For sore muscles and joints. Add 20 drops per oz of lotion or carrier oil.

Wyndmere Naturals, Inc.
Minneapolis, MN
1-800-207-8538

http://www.wyndmerenaturals.com/stor...0&cat=0&page=1

I purchased this from a local health food store. Recommended it to two ladies and have had feedback that it has relieved or stopped pain. For carrier oil, my personal preference was cold pressed castor oil.

Even thought I combine herbs, flower essences and essential oils to create a formulation that relieves pain it is nice to have an alternative where anyone may purchase ingredients and make for them self. I believe this is a good alternative, and it is also economical as far as the supplies needed. It is also a way “Keep It Simple”. How Do You Cope With Pain (home remedies)

my chronic pain usually sets in when I sit for periods of time of atleast 15 minutes, I try to avoid the use of medication, such as Vicoden, Percocet or Felexril

I usually just find something to do in the yard to stay moving, or go help the neigbors in their yard, yesterday I cleared some brush for a man who is my 87 year old neigbor, we are also working on breaking ground for a garden, and then I helped wash my other 60ish year old neigbors car, she did not have the strength to scrub the bugs off the front

but, I feel asleep in my computer chair last night and am in serious pain this morning, I will probably have to use meds, after I attend church

I also have problems with sleeping , and rarly sleep through the night,I am going to try to get the free 7 day Ambien trial, next time I go to the doc
