So, yesterday I got to work cleaning the blinds in our bay window again. I did the big window part last week and did one of two smaller window ones yesterday. Can I just tell you what a pain in the *** it is to clean these things??

I have to stand up, bent over because the ceiling is short by the windows to get the first part of them done. Yeah, that's a blast... Then I sit down to clean the rest of them. Reaching up, stretching, sitting indian style, bending, twisting, yeah all that fun stuff.

Needless to say, today I am in a world of hurt. ugggh! This is one reason I hate being a smoker....what it does to the window, window treatments and walls just can't suck enough! I have 2 more windows to do, the small one in the bay window and my bedroom window.

Then, I get to clean the fridge, the oven/stove and scrub down the bathroom. All this in 2 weeks! Guess I should stop complaining and get moving eh?

Hi tmt123. Welcome to PC! Welcome to the Fibro thread. I'm so sorry you have it and I hope you can get your Cymbalta as you need it. Again, welcome!

Oh Sabby

I understand your pain.. I have cheap generic blinds on my windows, why? because twice a year I toss them out and just put new ones up, LOL ( I hand cleaned blinds once and I basically went into a rage, swore then... Never again)

I am OCD about cleaning , its stupid and I hate it especially as it keeps my Fibro in a constant flare , but I can't seem to change it, So if I were near you I would come clean everything for you , I am sick of cleaning my stuff daily. I will share some of my tried and true tricks, maybe one will help you out.

Mist the blinds down with a light coat of pledge, it repels dust on furniture so it also helps with the blinds.

Clean windows with 3 parts vinegar and one part rubbing alcohol with a coffee filter cuts right thru the smoke coating. use a good amount of spray.

I use a degreaser to clean the fridge inside and out it loosens things up quicker, I remove any food that in out in the open, fruit ,veggies, move stuff and spray a shelf shut the door and walk away come back in 20-30 mins its a quick sweep and proceed to the next shelf , repeat, Same with racks on the door. let it soak a while..Once its all clean then return you fruit veggies and whatnot.

Bathrooms , same thing degreaser works best, Spray and walk away come back, Clean mirrors with Vinegar/ alcohol mix. It will cut right through the crap from smoking( ex smoker here)

Showers: degreaser then use car wax on the sides of shower and if you have a door vs a shower curtain , wax that too... buff on and buff off , just dont do the floor.. The water will just bead right off the walls, typically will last 4-6 months. I do this to my bathroom sinks and fixtures too

Microwave? Put a good size bowl of water and a splash of vinegar and turn it on for 8-10 mins , long enough to get the water boiling well and leave it sit again 20-30 mins and it steams and loosens everything.

** can you tell I am all about Spray and walk away, good way to get a much needed Fibro break **

I soak the snot outta my oven with the foaming cleaner and let it soak over night, if it doesn't wipe up easily I soak it again.. This is one chore I loathe.

Dusting .. I am a total swiffer duster addict, best invention since sliced bread !

Kitchen floors , same degreaser spray and go sit , do it in small sections if you have a large area. I do go back over it with quick spray of vinegar/alcohol, Degreaser can be a bit sticky if you dont rinse it well enough, so seriously a spray bottle in one hand spray the vinegar/alcohol and sweep your damp mop over it, Done.

Degreaser is cheap , they are really all the same, I buy the cheap walmart brand.
Vinegar /alcohol again super cheap. Coffee filters dirt cheap and wont leave lint like paper towels.

I do buy a toilet bowl cleaner thick gel one, whatever is cheap, again usually the Walmart brand.

Anyway, Hope at least one thing makes this cleaning chore a bit easier, Do remember to take breaks

~Cristina, I'm going to show my ignorance here, but what is a degreaser? I'm in my fibro fog morning and can't for the life of me think of what it is. Thank you for the cleaning tips. They are marvelous!

Folks, I need a reminder please. I am off work this week. My game plan had been to catch up on chores around the house and farm this week. Don't know if it's fibro or CFS, but I'm exhausted. All I want to do is sleep. I keep telling myself that if I need the rest, then I need the rest and that needs to be the priority. I'm not listening to myself very well. Maybe if y'all remind me that self-care has to come first I'll listen?

Its a cleaning product, it was made to cut through grease, break it up , dissolve it. I remember when it was mainly used by mechanics to clean there shop floors and there hands, Hand one was like a cream/gel consistancy . Its in the same place as all the other cleaning stuff, 409, lysol , kitchen ,bath cleaners ect...

Years ago it seemed like I had 5-6 cleaners for all the different jobs around the house, I think I ran out of some stuff and wanted to clean anyway and realized that the degreaser just really worked for almost everything.

It's really cheap , I fine the Walmart brand to work just as well as the "brand names"

I hope your fog lifts.. I struggle with that too I spent about 8 minutes earlier today trying to remember how to spell the word "when" ..yeah ,, Doh !

Liz Set an alarm when you start cleaning 15 mins or so ? when it goes off just go take a break. Make sure your getting enough sleep nightly so you can try and do some of the chores you want to do..

Take care of you

Wow Christina,

I just learned at from you about easier ways to clean thank you. I have fibro, RA, Lupus, seizures and a host of other things. I am pretty new to PC and was happy to see this thread.

I just came from the doctor and got a shot in my shoulder joint. I am not able to use that arm to much.

It's hard for people to understand that sometimes a simple hug hurts.

Anyway thanks for the information. I hate to see a messy house but cleaning it is getting harder and harder.

It's 3:05 am in California and I have been up for 3 hours due to the pain. I took some meds an hour ago so I am hoping they will kick in and I will be able to sleep.

I might have some more questions regarding cleaning because it seems to me you have found some easier ways and smarter ways to do it them me. I am differently going to try the microwave thing. I have kids and my microwave is always a mess

I'm new here. I have fibromyalgia, depression, add, chronic back and neck pain and just found out I have severe tendinitis in my shoulder and a tear in one of the rotator cuff muscles. Something hurts all the time. Cleaning is a killer. The bending over and sweeping/vacuuming just do me in. I do it knowing tomorrow I'll be in bed. One of my big stressors is my 30 year old son with Tourette's, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, oppositional defiant, and anger issues. He's currently unemployed and can't keep a job. Other stressor is aging parents. We just had to move them from their home to my sister's home. Dad with diabetes and new prosthetic leg, progressive vascular disease and Mom with rapid dementia. We need to clean out the house to get ready to sell. I live 1 1/2 away. All is overwhelming! But I do have a 2 month old grandbaby that is so precious - and a miracle baby! I hold on tight to my faith. But most days just feel like I'm just existing. I use to be the director of a non profit and loved my job and helping/encouraging other women. Had to quit due to depression. I don't know if this was the place to write all this. I enjoyed previous posts and could use some advice on handling all the above.

Hi all,
I'm new to this thread, normally hanging out over in the Mental Health area.
Just found out today that I probably have Fibromyalgia after another pile of tests that showed up nothing even though I have pain everywhere.
I can't believe I'm been telling Dr's about my pain for over 10 years and this is the first I'm hearing of this.

I don't know how I feel about the whole thing, didn't really need another illness added to the list right now.

Well, I finally managed to get my attention. I convinced myself that if I need rest/sleep that's what I need. Turns out I'm actually accomplishing some things around the place. I'm making myself listen to my body, when it says it's time to go rest I do.

Hi I'm new here and glad you have a fibro check in. I have they say chronic widespread pain I see no difference but they say I have more body pain then fibro label. Doctors funny aren't they. I see you might go in hospital you must have much better one then here in good old ga where the strongest med they give is a ultram. I have this diagnoses and IC,endometriosis, severe tendinopathy, stenosis, tmj,DDD and GA doctors don't agree with pain meds, so I spend most days in burning stabbing pain. Oh forgot the Ga doctors also only trust MRI reports not the patient took me three years to talk them into going into blade to fix what I kept telling them was a tear. Sorry vented a little. Hope none of you live in Ga. Can't wait to move in year.

Was in a whole word of pain yesterday, ended up spending half of my birthday crying at the bottom of the shower.
Looks like I need to go back to the doc and find out for sure if I've got Fibro and then see where I go from there.
Hoping you're all feeling alright at the moment.

Hang in there B&B....I'm in a world of hurt myself right now but I can't stop doing what I have to do right now and that's cleaning and packing for our move this Saturday. ugggh. Then, there is the unpacking to face. I just can't wait for it all to be over and we're settled so I can rest and relax for a bit.

Ohh damn! Moving is such a pain, physically as well as just an annoyance! By the time I've packed, cleaned and unpacked I'm exhausted, but you at least have a nice feeling of accomplishment afterwards. Hope it's not too rough for you.

And thanks for the kind words.

Sabby,

I hope the move goes good. Has anyone tried hot rice packs to help with the pain or a relax wrap? they sure help me when the pain is real bad. Lately I can hardly use my right arm. I got a shot in my shoulder and in my hip. It helped some but the pain is still there.

Hi Cakeladie. Rice packs are really helpful and they smell good, too. That's a really good idea. I had forgotten mine, now if I can just find it...
