Can't get into chat rooms.

BUMP! Nothing I can do ... I need someone in admin to help with this. I've already missed some chats. Please?
I've double checked my "allowed" sites, and added it again anyway. I've even shut off my virus program (using avast) just to see if it's a firewall. I am using Firefox; could something be in the update?

I just slipped into chat rooms through the "no pop up chat" button. Now can someone tell what I need to do? I didn't change anything from before, so where do I look for an updated block pop ups choice, if that is the issue.
Ok... I added the address to the chat rooms to the pop up allow list as well. Nope, that didn't work either.

Oh well. I know I had issues with some things "no one" else was having trouble with ... at neurotalk the other week.
Now this with chat upon returning. But now I've been advised that my email accounts have been compromised and are locked out for 24 hours. IDK. I'm too tired to figure things out, and for all I know the notices are part of the fakery. lol (Except I can't access my email accounts normally.) I recently bought an iPhone and access emails that way ... maybe I should contact them and see (but how that would affect my home computer I have no idea.) I recently added an address area wall paper from Mozilla (I use firefox) so maybe that allowed something else in too? I can't imagine having to run a website; I can barely keep my own little stuff straight! ![]()

WELL ... I've looked at everything I have so far thought to check. I turned off microsoft security (I'm using avast full time and lavasoft on request.) The windows defender was an additional element I didn't need, but there's no official "off" on it (thanks Gates.)
I've checked what I have from the chat page here, and everything is listed and accepted (supposedly) images (icons) etc. I've checked and updated my adobe, flash player, java... I've checked to be sure that Avast has the chat and forum address allowable. I can get in chat through the no pop up tab. But I have pop ups allowed here. (Is there some places to check for additional block settings?)

I hate no one has helped you. I've only tried chat a very few times, so I don't have answers.
I've used Firefox since it came out and I find it to be extremely secure, so I don't know if that's the problem, I know it just updated a few days ago, maybe there is some new setting for security they've added or something... Sorry I'm not helpful, but I didn't want you to think you were just talking to yourself.

Yeah I've checked java (latest update was the 3rd) and firefox updates. It says the java is working correctly.
If I were a techie I think two things would tell me the problem: 1) the statement of "Authentication failed" 2) I can get into chat through the "NO POP UP" chat access ![]() Well, after all I've done, the computer is working cleanly again. ![]() Oh, I do have it loading now (green load meter) but then it opens to a white page and flips to a blue screen and the "failed" notice comes up. I may play with the java script selections some more. It was one of them that gave me the meter back. lol

Hi (JD),
I wish I could help. I never use chat. I searched this forum with the error message you are getting. There are a couple of posts from other people who had the same error message in chat after changing their screen name, but it doesn't say how it was resolved. ![]() There were also some general ideas from Doc John in one of the threads: Quote:

OK. I went into my windows firewall (which I have off) and found some stuff about authentication (between computers, sharing etc) but one thing always leads to another (and I never know if they are connected) and pulled the data on the "failed" page and got this:

That HTML you posted isn't telling you scripts are being blocked. The <noscript> means that's the text to be displayed in case JavaScript is disabled or otherwise not working.
If your browser is like my (older) Firefox, the pulldown menu under Tools should have an option for "Error Console"; I'm pretty sure it used to be called "JavaScript Error Console". Clicking on it shows me a huge long list of incidents that JavaScript (I think!) has encountered recently. Not that I understand what they're about, but almost all of the ones listed in mine seem to refer to trivial incidents (unable to find this, undefined that) that have produced no noticeable consequences for me. I'd expect yours (if it's even there) to look a lot like mine but if it happened to be complaining repeatedly about why it couldn't open a popup or something, that just might give you a lead. The most promising time to check it would probably be right after you'd tried and failed to get into chat. I don't know exactly what the connection is between JavaScript and popups, but there does seem to be one. Back in the bad old days before Firefox, I found I could effectively block popups by keeping JavaScript permanently disabled except when I really needed some feature (like a "good" popup) that depended on it. |

Thanks. Yeah, the strange thing is when I click on the error tab, I receive a blank screen! So whatever is causing the chat to be blank might also be causing the error screen to be that way too!
![]() I just updated IE, even though I don't use it ... I know some programs do... I had issues with the update last year and removed the updated version, so I'm hoping I haven't added more problems. I study Greek and still can't figure out if the addy line is telling me anything LOL! I can't find any place to set a port for 8080 (man is that old to me!) I have noticed that the forum site uses one font script (Western xxx and the chat room uses UTF 8 (or whatever it is) if I change my options to the UTF then the forum site doesn't display. Seems to me my computer program should be doing something automatically and it isn't. Bet this is really a simple issue and I'm totally overboarding it. lol

Yes, that's been suggested, the parentheses aren't recognized. sigh. I had a name with a _ and it recognized that.

JD... I'm not sure I understand. You said you could get into chat by using the "No pop-up chat" option. So if you can use that option, you can now get into chat okay?
The reason that option is there is to give people access to the chat room who otherwise were having difficulties. If that option is not working for you, please let me know. Thanks.

Yes DocJohn, thanks, that IS working for me.
I'm just trying to find out what changed -- other than my s/n. I'm having intermittent issues with neurotalk and PC (logging in, site crashing, etc) ... and with my yahoo mail too (but not the yahoo log in) ! I removed the updates of windows, adobe and ... something else I forget right now. I'm trying to add things back in and see what makes a difference. Thanks.

Warning: Error in parsing value for 'filter'. Declaration dropped.
Source File: http://newchat.psychcentral.com:8080/?0,5,0,0,0&l= (etc) (This from the error console.) In the statement, it says the application requires java script. Is this any help for someone trying to figure out my problem? I began having issues with other programs, yahoo mail login, bank/credit card site logins, etc. I removed ALL of my cookies, not just cleared the cache but removed even "allowed" sites from the listings. This took care of my issues with my email and financial sites. Still, "authentication failed" pops up here if I try to enter the chat room normally. (Yes, I can get in the back door.) I also allow ALL pop ups right now.... What or where are other filters that for some reason are blocking this? Oh, I had to restore my computer to a previous time too. Seems firefox, adobe AND Java all came in with updates. It froze my desktop screen and I couldn't even pull up my start list. I've restored and refused any of the updates for now ... and pulled scans on the files with avast, just in case it missed something real-time. Nothing. It's a challenge to figure this out. Hope I'm not bothering anyone. Any other ideas? I still receiving this notice on page info: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html><head><title></title><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/></head> <body><noscript><b>This application requires JavaScript.</b><br/>Your browser either does not support JavaScript or scripts are being blocked.</noscript> <script type="text/javascript">document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="realchat.js$0,5,0,0,0!20100412094857"><\/script>');</script></body></html> Hmmmm.... So now I have to decide whether to use the firefox, and/or the java updates! ![]()
