Not sure if this is the correct forum or even the whole of PC in general.

But there is something troubling me.

Everyone in my life, has a dream. Everyone wants to be engineers, doctors, scientists, want to help others, want to learn more about the world, want to survive, want to have a family, everyone has their own dreams, whether big or small. I also have a dream, and everyone says to follow your dreams, but usually the norm isn't always right. You've got to follow what you think is right.

My dream for this lifetime is to go to heaven. I just don't have any interest in being anything on Earth here. Maybe I haven't found it yet. I don't know. Maybe people who see this will laugh and think I'm crazy, but I'm serious. Well, it's nice to be able to amuse people I suppose. The emotion along with my dream is of confusion and plain disinterest in anything else. I just want self-betterment I suppose...I guess I'm sounding a bit weird and unsure about what I want...but any feedback on this is greatly appreciated.

Hi PeachCream22,

Lots of people go through life never know what they truly want to do, Going to heaven is a nice dream and lots of people have it, but it can wait, it can wait a long long time, Till your way over a 100 and the man upstairs says it's time and not a moment sooner. One day you may have an idea just come out of nowhere and say "Why didn't I think of that sooner." Or you may not, but you just keep on trying different things. Some people are ment to experience many things and become worldly, others just know what they want to do the moment they are born. Good Luck and you will find your purpose on earth when you least expect it.

Do you have religious beliefs? I mean you do believe in heaven and I'm just wondering if you subscribe to any religion.

I also don't really feel like being anything in particular in this world and I think that's okay. But life is a gift from God and I'm good with living like this, without any particular dream for what I want to be in the future or anything like that.

It does seem like you're unsure of what you want like you said. But there must be something you enjoy, whether it's a career goal or not. If you have a hobby or maybe or a person that you really love, or a pet, maybe you really enjoy helping people, anything. Those kinds of things can also become "Dreams" of sorts. Your life doesn't have to be defined by what you do for a living.

For example, I work in an office as an estimator, I didn't study this in school nor do I really find it particularly fulfilling, but it's a good job even if it's boring for me. But my real life fulfillment comes from other things. I love to write music and I spend a lot of my time when I'm not working doing that. It's purely a hobby, I don't make any money from it, but still it really is a dream come true that I get to do that on a regular basis. See what I mean?

I hope you find some clarity or, if not, I hope that at least you can find peace about this whole thing.

i think it's a fine goal, if it means you mind yourself: your thoughts and feelings and actions. to be the best person you can be, to be worthy of that fine company~ if that is what you mean, then KUDOS~! and best wishes~

I want to go to heaven

Forget all the all the "Must and have to". If you do that, then you will find you are already in Heaven.

Thank you for the replies! I'm glad you don't think I'm crazy or anything.

Cyclowolf: Trying different things here huh? Yeah, I feel like i haven't found what I'm meant for here. I guess it's the only way.

arachnophobia.kid: yeah I'm Catholic. Actually it's because of this religious belief that I want to do this as well, because I believe. My family is also in this religion but my dad isn't, and fights always happen when he gets drunk, and people at church my age are friendly, but i'm always left out and they have their own friends (even as a kid), so I'm always with the adults. I love God, but I just don't feel like praying as a community when people make me feel alone there. I'd rather be alone. But I guess that's not a nice thing to say if you want to go to Heaven.

Yeah I know I do enjoy stuff, but they all seem so useless to this world, like...they don't contribute much to society, and it seems like I have to contribute something. I like reading and jogging and listening to music. Along with some arts and crafts, and I've always wished to write music and play an instrument.

Gus1234U: Yeah...I think you're the closest to the mark here. I want to be better and mindful of my presence everywhere, but it doesn't seem to, as mentioned above for arachnophobia.kid, doesn't seem to contribute much to society.

Thunder Bow: Hm..food for thought. Thanks!
Thanks for this!

Maybe a good direction to go would be to focus on being a servant for God. I am a Christian too. And that's why I asked if you were religious.

I think that focusing on your relationship with God may give you some peace. If your goal is to go to Heaven and you want to contribute more to society, why not start getting more involved at a church? Or get involved with the homeless? Or assisting the disabled? Or work at a charity? There are lots of ways you can contribute and all those things certainly seem to line up with your goal of going to heaven.

It's extremely rewarding too, to help people, even if it's not always easy or fun. I'm sure it'd fill the void for you of feeling like you're not contributing much.
Thanks for this!

One thing that occurs to me when I read your first post is, what does heaven mean to you?
For some it is a hope to hold onto, while things around them are miserable, for others, a reason to be virtuous here and now. It is something that you cannot grab hold of now, and is not what you can aim for on a daily basis.

You also say in your later post that you feel you have to contribute something. While that is a good objective, it might also indicate that you feel you don't deserve to be happy. Are you thinking that things that you would enjoy here and now are not for you for some reason?
Yes, it is great to contribute, but contributions can be non-earth-shattering things. Being a good friend, being there for people in small ways can be a way to contribute to a better society. Isn't that a goal that is worthwhile?
You don't have to find the cure for cancer or pollution or some huge task.
Find some small things you do enjoy dong and do them, regularly, just for you. You cannot be a happy person for others if you are not happy for yourself.

Don't burden yourself with the need to find some huge life objective. One may come to you one day, but you do not have to have one to live a full and satisfying life.

Setting yourself a huge target, living for a dream, can be great, but it can also set us up for disappointment. We are not all astronauts despite many little children dreaming of becoming one. We aren't told as children of the satisfying job of designing the elbow joint for spacesuits that mean astronauts can move around. Or designing meals that are still tasty months later, so astronauts are happy to stay for months in space. Or even working in the factory making the precision bolts and screws and seals that make it safe to be there.
Your dream could be to do well at whatever you do.
Thanks for this!

arachnophobia.kid: Perhaps you're right...it's just that I've been so busy with work and school that I've neglected the church, and my parents don't help either, they want me to focus on studies, and at the the same i don't want to fight with them? it's really hard, being nice and at the same time trying to contribute. Yeah, there is a void...needing to be satisfied. Thank you for pointing that out...

Hawkspur: Hmm Heaven for me just means. Heaven, like what children envision. To be with God. I want to be at peace, I want to be a good person, and yeah I always feel the need to have huge life objectives! It's amazing you noticed that somehow...and yes I guess I'm just not happy with myself. Thank you for reminding me that little things like that also contribute!

God put you on earth for a purpose, not to sit around and wait to die. The world was made among other things, for our enjoyment.

Heaven can be found on earth too!!!like when you meet that special someone, having kids, and other big events. but the way to find it is by holding the door open at the grocery store for an elderly person, doing crafts, music, letting someone sit while you stand on the bus, and other small actions. I suggest you learn from St. Theresa, read up about her, she is the patron saint of small actions and short prayers that we can do every day.

Trust God, place your hope in Him. He will work out everything in your life. He created you and fill you with potential and He will equip you to live life victoriously.
