Three hours sleep. That's something, anyway. Six months ago I invited a woman to be my roommate. Sweet, soft spoken-has severe fibormyalgia, so there's the instant sympathy thing. The last month she was in my house she-stole my clonipin, tried to destroy one of my novels, wiped all my fav recorded shows on my tv-tried to poison me-stole lots of things-alienated me from my neighbor-messed with my computer and stole my military ID, my credit card ad my S.S. card. Once she figured out that I had finally caught on, she became vicious. Even knocked me down in the yard the other day ad kept tryig to kick me. I had my cane with me so I got a few good licks in.
I just want to forget it. But that voice in my head keeps telling me what a idiot I was-that it was my fault for letting her move in, etc. She never got around to paying her deposit, so when she stormed out she left me in a financial bind. I've lived here for eight years, way longer than I've ever lived anywhere else and really don't want to move. I've found a new roommate, a gentleman who is a different color-so the white people next door are freaking out-the landlord (from India) is freaking out, and I say it's no ones damn business. Guess I should have let the guy with the 65 pound pitbull move in. Or the very wierd woman I swear is a vampire. Or maybe one of those old ladies who wield their religion like a weapon. I'm into fantasy and I've got a beautiful ceramic dragon I call my guardian. One of those little old ladies walked up to him and said "I hate you." To my dragon. And I'm the crazy one. I don't drive (sensory overload) but we still have a vehicle and it would fix so many of my day to day problems to have someone take me places from time to time. And it would be nice to have a man around to fix things and do things around the house that I can't do. Sorry for rambling. I'm just mad at myself today. The van wouldn't start and we had someone willing to give us a jump but the neighbors wouldn't move their car to let us do that. I don't have any family and for the first time in my life, no friends. But I refuse to play this today. I won't spend the rest of the day beating myself up. Or listen to that evil voice that whispers in my ear-"Oh, wouldn't it be so much easier just to let everything go?" Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I'm gonnna eat some wor-er-orms! Remember that from school? So I don't like me today. I'm angry and upset and just feel so stupid and alone. So very tired of predators. |

Sounds awful. Nothing worse than opening your heart (let alone your home) and then having it returned to you in pain and grief. Did you call the police about the theft? That would be a good place to start. I have been lucky in not having to have a roommate in my home all my life but I can see how it would be a blessing for you. I wish you luck in the new roommate situation and pay no mind to the neighbors who I am sure have nothing better to do then see what your doing and how your living. Hang in there and keep your heart guarded until you can heal and recover from this.

I think that is awful that people are acting funny because your new room mate is black.
I agree with waterknob, people gotta just get over that attitude. She will probably end up the best of the bunch. Some of the nicest people I have ever met were black. Do not beat yourself up, there are a lot of creepy people out there in the world. ((Hugs)) |

Waterknob, Labor Intensive and Open Eyes-
Thank you so much for your replies. ![]() I slept all afternoon, which is the best healing tool I have sometimes. I realized I have to let all this go. Most of my adult life I've felt like I have this neon sign on my forehead that alternately flashes DOORMAT or PREDATORS WELCOME. My prospective roommate is supposed to bring me half of the deposit tomorrow. If he goes back o his word I'm screwed seve ways to Sunday. But he was supposed to call me today and didn't. But if I stress anymore, I thik I might actually explode. I can actually see little pieces of me dangling from the walls and the ceiling and all over my new leopard bedspread. Screew that. I really like that bedspread. If I have to lose my place, I can put all my things in storage and live in my van. Shelters don't take pets. Have faith, old girl. Believe. Open yourself to the universe. Trying to believe. After all, my higher power has bee guidig me so far. |

Sounds like you live with members of one big Freak Show: Vampires, 265lb. Pit Bulls, Crazy people who yell at Statues. You live in a Care and Guidance Facility? Or a Hospital ? Being there for 8yrs sounds like you love the place. All I can say, is that you bought the Ticket long ago. Now it is the time to enjoy the show! Think how boring your life would be, with out all that going on.

No, Thunder, I just live in a duplex. But I am going to put a sign on my door that says 'Anyone bringing drama into this house will be met with deadly force.' Then I'll let my attack cat at em. It's legal as long as you drag the body inside before you call the police.

Hello Tea & Sympathy, You sound like a lovely person who was betrayed on so many levels. In saying that you won't be beat and that takes guts. Good for you. Best wishes.

It is a shame that good people like you get taken advantage of. Shame on that lady for doing those things to you. I do hope your new room mate works out for the best. Stay strong!

LOL!!! Wow, this sounds like something right out of a t.v comedy! Anyways, I know how you feel although I've been fortunate enough to have never been in your exact situation with roomates! There are way to many weird, nasty, and manipulative people out there! There is nothing wrong with you, it's those other people who are crazy! This is why you should always do a through background check. Even then, you should trust your gut instinct if someone seems off in any way. No matter what anyone says, everything has to be in writing. Never trust anyone 100%, especially when it comes to anything involving money! If you do end up finding someone who seems sane, then make sure that you establish clear boundaries from the get go such as what chores you expect them to do and what they can and can't use, etc... Good luck with finding a decent roommate- ![]() |

Tea and Sympathy, I had a roommate like yours. It took a long time to heal. In fact, I had a couple really nasty roommate experiences where I was trying to help people out. I like your sense of
Humor. I don't think I would want to live with a vampire lady or someone who jad hateful conversations with my knickknacks either. If they are that weird before even moving I'm just imagine what would happen when they really felt at home and let their hair down. I can't even imagine. . . I will keep you I'm my thoughts. May the universe send you a delightful roommate; may amgels surround you as well

OMG-you guys are waaaay too cool! Sometimes my sense of humor is the only option I have. I once got out of a 72 hour hold in 2 hours because I asked the guy guarding me if he had a gun. When he said no, I said "S**t! There goes suicide by cop!" By the time he quit laughing they were signing me out and telling me to go home.
But today was a super day. I have found another roommate. I made up a contract and he took a copy to the local 'help ya with yer rent' people and brought me a check for 4 hundred bucks. I had only asked him for 250, half of the deposit, but he gave me the whole thing. My van has just been sitting in the driveway since my husband died so now he has a vehicle and I have someone to take me shopping, etc. How cool is that? So now I can pay the bills and be caught up for the first. Even had plenty for food and smokes. Ya-hoo! I knew he was the one when we spent about an hour talking and he said everything I had specified on the contract before he read it. And no, I didn't expect it to be a man and I didn't expect him to be black. But I think we will get along famously and I'm very pleased with the universe tonight. Thak you very much to everyoe who expressed their concern. I don't know why I never found this place before but so happy to have found it now. We may be bent, my honey lambs, but we 'aint broken yet! ![]() P.S. But always be on the lookout for dragon hating vampires! |

An update-
My new roomie did call me. I just got my days and nights mixed up, as I frequently do. All I asked him for was 250, half of the deposit, but he gave me 400 so I could get caught up with things and go grocery shopping. I let him go ahead and move in now instead of waiting till the first. He was staying at his son's house and sleeping on the floor. He knows I'm BP and is okay with it. Had some med training in the past and understands it better than most. He reminds me to take my meds, which I need because I forget sometimes, usually the afternoon ones. He is a perfect gentleman and treats me with respect and we get along quite well. Looks like I got lucky this time. As for the other one, I've let that go. Don't have time to sit around and stew over it. I've got better things to do. So thak you all for your replies and your good wishes. You guys are the best. ![]() |
