A long term chatter asked if we wanted a link she had about Mindfulness. He got it from his therapist. I have been working on using mindfulness as much as I can. I know very little about it. I am always looking to learn more.
My new therapist has been getting me to use mindfulness to help me cope with all emotions. My therapist explained trying it once a week with him is not enough. I try to remember to practice it when I feel okay as much as I can. Then when I need it, it is there. I think of myself as an apprentice. So these are the thoughts of an apprentice who is grateful to have been offered this link. ![]() It can't hurt and if they ask for money They will make me bellylaugh. ![]() The Mindfulness Summit: A FREE Online Event With 31 Of The World's Leading Teachers

I do not know if this can be labeled as Spam? The site seems to be a bit to heavy. I suggest moderation when it comes to meditation. You do not want to stop feeling completely. I think there are ulterior motives associated with this site.

Hi emwell, I've practiced mindfulness meditation for over 35 years. When beginning mindfulness meditation the general suggestion is to practice once in the morning and once in the evening. Meditate (watch your breathing, 'just notice' your thoughts without attaching anything to them) for 10 minutes each session. Throughout the day, try to be aware of your breath - but don't be self-critical if you forget. Just go back and try again.
Here's a good, basic 'how to': https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...ess-meditation Jon Kabat Zinn is an excellent author on mindful meditation/living. A lot of people like Pema Chodron. As for the link you've shared...I just skimmed the site, but right off I don't see anything suspicious about it at all. If the program is really free of charge, the rest of it looks okay. Best to you~ |

![]() I shall check out those authors. Prior to switching to this therapist I was told he was big into breathing and mindfulness. Just what I needed. Had I been listening I would have switched to him in January. ![]() I removed the link from my original post in case it was spam. I'm old, I don't know what is or isn't spam. ![]() ![]() Allow me to clarify. When I say "old", I am referring to anyone who did not grow up with a personal computer in their bedroom.

In my opinion, your link is not spam. You're not trying to sell something or push something on PC by repeatedly posting about it.
If mindfulness helps you, I think that's great! My last p-doc was a huge advocate of mindfulness techniques. |

I didn't think Thunder Bow meant that emwell was spamming, just that the site itself looked suspicious to him. Just my impression - I can't really speak for what he meant. I looked at the site. Hard to tell for sure. I wouldn't mind popping down to the Sydney area to attend the actual event, but they might try to make me sit in lotus position.

Yes, I agree - I think that's what Thunder Bow meant.
Yoga sounds wonderful! I practice yoga, but I haven't taken a class in years. |

Good for you for practicing on your own. Even when I went to classes regularly, I didn't practice much at home.

I hope you at least chuckle a bit at this post.
![]() I am always looking for ways to improve my ability to practice Mindfulness. People have PM'd me asking how to do it. I thought this link might be helpful to some. I am sorry the focus has been taken off of mindfulness, but I can have fun anyway. ![]() Quote:

You seem to defensive. I also do light meditation to relax and feel good. I like guided meditations and music type meditation, to imagine pleasant places in my mind. I like doing it best when out in the wilderness camping.
Upon review of the site, it is advertising, plain and simple, and advertising = spam. It all most crosses into being all most "Cult" like. That is why I feel uncomfortable with the site. Cults = Control. |

Hi Thunder Bow, I looked over the site again and I'm just not getting a feeling of it being cult-like. The names of the people leading the seminar are many old, familiar, respected names in the mindfulness meditation community.
Can you give an example or two of exactly what looks like spam to you? |

The slick way the page is done, and all the slick crisp photos as well. The word "FREE" is very telling. There are many more spam examples I could give. If you register for the program, look for the sales pitch, coming to your neighborhood soon.
"Cult Like"? The way the whole site reads seems a little to controlling. Also the expressions on the leaders faces are like to the to the expressions I seen on cult leaders faces I seen in the past. My gut level feelings tell me this site is just a little to much on the "Cult" side. Also saw an story on 60min last week, that also showed them being much like a cult. Mind you, 60min did NOT say they were a cult. I had experiences with cults in the past, thus I trust my feelings on this. |

I have been following this summit.
I am grateful I was lead to it I am learning how easy yet how powerful practicing mindfulness can be. I also discovered that I have been using a form of it recently and I didn't even realize it. I've been doing mindful eating to lose weight and didn't know that is what I was using. It has been working even before I knew what I was doing. Another lesson for me was that not every mindful technique is right for me. My ultimate goal is to use what I am learning to prevent a relapse in depression. I believe it can be done. Now I just have to do it.

I just finished Day 9 - Ruby Wax she is in my top 3 interviews
I truly like being exposed to a wide variety of people who practice mindfulness. I have missed my last 2 1/2 therapy sessions. I think my therapist will be proud when he learns I have taken part in this summit. Maybe I will catch up and watch Day 10 today as well. I also need to go back and rewatch Day 1 - Mark Williams
