I had locked myself in the closet/pantry at work just so I could be alone for a few minutes and I bawled like crazy. I've never cried at the end of Futurama, tho... Family Guy, I think maybe, but not Futurama.

That's OK sundance.
Can I ask which episode? Because there are two or three episodes that make me cry at the end... the one with Leela's parents comes to mind and also the one where Frye "discovers" that his brother "impersonated" him after he was frozen. And maybe the last episode when Frye sold his soul to the Robot Devil to write the holophone piece for Leela. OK I know I am off point here. For me, I react differently to these things... when I cry at drama (or a touching ending to a comedy piece) it is a sign that my feelings are returning so for me that signifies that I am doing OK or even coming out of a depressive episode. I know that I am unusual in that. I guess the point is we all have different triggers and symptoms and warning signs and it is good to recognize one's own. I hope you are able to feel better and to be able to laugh again soon. Recognizing when you are depressed is an important step in the recovery. {{{{{{sundance}}}}}}

The episode that got me was when fry was thinking back to the time that he had dog that followed him everywhere while he worked at the pizza place. He had him for 3 yrs until he got stuck in that thing and transported into the future and frozen. Well the dog found him and was so excited but fry's parents took the dog away say that the dog was just upset because he was missing and never looked up at the capsule where fry was.
Well the dog sat in front of the pizza shop waiting for him until the dog died of old age. After I saw that I balled. I'm crying really easily, 3 nights now straight, and always at night...i'm really sensitive right now, also missed my the time to do my light box because I stayed in bed after after my alarm went off. |

I don't think you have to be particularly depressed to cry at the end of that episode. It was truly sad. I hate that episode.

Not that it's any consolation, but my daughter cries over South Park and the Timmy and the turkey episode.
Would it help if you had daylight simulating light bulbs in the house/office for the times when you don't get to use the light box? I'm probably not mentioning anything that your doc hasn't already said, but I've put in those bulbs in the house and the color spectrum isn't golden and subdued like with regular incandescents. Don't know if it's helped since the weather's just started getting really dreary this past week, but it really does give you the impression that you're in natural sunlight instead of artificial.

I have no excuse not to use my light, it's right here in one of the rooms. Today I just didn't use it because when I actually dragged myself out of bed it was 9am, and i'm supposed to do the light before then.
Stimulating lightbulbs doesn't give the effect that a lightbox gives, with a lightbox you got to sit right up close to it.....light bulbs are too high. That's what a light box does it gives you the impression that you are out in the sun, gives the effects of the sun but not the UV... I think it's just depression period, the lightbox definatly helps but it doesn't fully get rid of it. |

Oh, I realize the lightbox is way more effective than the kind of lightbulbs I'm talking about. Prescription versus OTC in a sense. I thought maybe it would be an alternative that might give at least a little help on those non-lightbox days.
I'm not a fan of dull, dark winter myself. I don't know if it would qualify as SADD, but I definitely feel tons better during the long daylight seasons. I'm always on my dad's case to at least open up his shades to help battle his depression. ![]() Now I'm curious. So lightboxes are similar to tanning bed bulbs without the bad aspects? That would explain why I always felt so good after tanning. I quit, knowing the risks outweigh the benefits.

Alot of people actually suffer from SAD but not everyone gets a diagnosis, for some people it does not get as bad as it does for me. Hell I wish that I could be happy all the time, and now it's rare that I've even happy for an hour. My eating habits have changed alot as well, i'm likely to get a decent meal in in a day...
![]() When the sun is out it does help somewhat to sit in front of the window or go outside for 10 minutes even in the cold and snow to get that fresh air. Nope tanning beds and lightboxes are completely different. They use differnt bulbs. The bulbs they use for SAD lights are I believe 10000 watt lux bulbs, I believe that's what mine is. Tanning beds does not help depression or seasonal depression. Some people would likely feel good after a tanning bed because you have the warmth and what not from laying out in the sun in the summer, but no the light is different. |

Oh yes, you can add that one to my list. That was a very emotionaly episode, at the point of Frye's decision not to clone the dog and then that final scene. "Who knows? Maybe he added some new songs to his repetoire?!" "I'm Walkin' on Sunshine!" ![]()

HAHAHAHA thanks Dexter...
![]() I talked to my psychiatrist a little bit ago and she said that it could be hormonal because it's "that" time of the month for me, and she said that it can start a couple days before you start and last until your finished. So she said that if i'm still this way in about 4 days to call her. |

OH forgot to mention before... I get choked up too when the turkey climbs up into bed with Timmy and puts his head on the pillow. Anyone South Park fans recognize that the turkey warehouse scene was a take-off on the scene with Edward G Robinson in "Soylent Green"? South Park has a HUGE amount of sometimes really subtle references to other films, shows, etc.

Oops sorry for the off topic post sundance...
This sounds like a good plan, I take it you trust this doc. We often get angry when doctor's attribute our symptoms to other things but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Like with everything, a balance... she made a suggestion but made a point to follow up if she is wrong... shows that she wasn't taking your symptoms, or you, for granted. Anyway hope the visit helps and hope that things turn out OK for you and you feel better soon. Once more with feeling: "I'm walkin' on sunshine! Whoa-oa-oa!!!"

I don't have an appt with her now until December.
![]() I trust her a lot, i've been with her almost with her for 10 years now, since 1996 so yes I do. She knows how my moods can change this time of year, she says that as the older you get me being 25, your hormones can go out of whack a bit and cause these sensitive crying spells. I rather have that occur from my period happening every once in a blue moon from this time of the month (sorry guys) then know it's my depression going crazy... "Walking on suuuunshine .... whooooooo" Or something. ![]() |
