<font color="#000088">Dealing with stress
Depression is more common in people who have had to make major emotional adjustments in their lifes during the past 6-12 months, for example, to the death of a family member, the birth of a baby, the loss of a job or moving house. All these events may result in persistent stress. Over time, the effects of such stress make you vulnerable to depression. In order to resolve fully the depression and to prevent recurrences it is important to resolve stress. Rules for reducing stress: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The first priority in tackling stress is to ensure that you are getting sufficient excercise, a nourishing diet and enough sleep. Alcohol, tabacco and non-prescribed drugs should be avoided, they are addictive and increase stress. Thank you Miss_A. |

That's right, DSM-IV states that. PTSD is not "stress", ask those who are dealing with 911,those who served in the various wars, holocaust, losses due to murder, rape, and all the horrors many of us are still working on.
Thanks, Miss A, but it isn't the same thing, though depression and stress become the by products over time, if professional help isn't quite doing the job. DE (((((((((((((( Sky )))))))))))))))

Ah September, she doesn't know better, I mean, any regular person would have read the threads here and would understand the difference, and then would have posted in the STRESS thread in General instead of flaming me here. TC

This thread doesn't belong here. What is so difficult about moving it to depression or anxiety where it belongs?

This article must have come out of Miss Teen or Cosmo. The stress it talks about seems like your everday kinda stuff to me, not the kind of "stress" that stays with you the rest of your life after having experienced something TRAUMATIC. And "RULES" no less!
Didn't I say something not too long ago about teens not understanding what adults have gone through so how can they offer advise?? Yeah... seems to me I did! ![]()

Try living your life normally or any of the other things on the list with THAT! Ain't gonna happen!

Miss A,
you've tried to offer good advice as you see depression. depression has many layers, causes and affect. some of these are good "general" instructions for such a complicated illness. however, alot of ppl who deal with chronic depression are past most of the points in the list. that being said, it does NOT mean that someone new to depression/stress could not try some of these things in an attempt to help themselves. therefore, i think that it's a valuable thread! you're trying to understand and help. i think that's admirable. be safe, kd

Ive had posts where advice given wasnt for me. Thats not to say that other advice from them will be useless tho. Plus not everyone posts just for advice. Sometimes support is just that, a listening ear, a comforting hug etc. Oft times when i post i just need to a hear "That sounds hard to deal with, my sympathies". I dont want someone figuring out exactly what i should do and how. |

Frankly, I read Miss A's post as tips for dealing with everyday stress. Call me crazy, but I didn't see any reference to PTSD in it. The tips are good tips for managing everyday stress and for improving general well-being, and they are similar to what I share with my patients about self-care. I highly doubt they come from Miss Teen or Cosmo as an original source.
I also see no reference to any specific poster here, so for those who take it personally, I assume that is a projection on your part. In addition, an excess of stress HAS been shown in the literature to make one more vulnerable to depression. Perhaps the post was originally posted in a forum that was not the absolutely most appropriate place (I can't follow when things are moved if they are not labelled as such). Does that mean that there is no value to the content? Please. gg

GG, this was posted in the PTSD forum and was quite triggering to more than just me. That's why you don't fully understand the responses.

Shay, if this was the only instance where something was said or posted JUST to increase the number of posts, it could have been overlooked, but it's not!
Your response is so much more appropriate than the post in PTSD! You can do that because you have experience and the pressense of mind to know how to answer when you don't know what the problem is. I hope you and I are still okay. I'm unsure at the moment, but I won't say anymore here. ![]()

The PTSD forum isn't for regular stress. Since the list talked as much aabout depression, it fits here much better. imo
