sorry if this is the wrong place to post..trying to keep it short and to the point,so here i go..

2 days ago i started on cipramil (10mg) for depression.since that day ive been expericeing strange feelings or thoughts which i havent really felt before, like thw world isnt real or im dreaming, like a movie or something.everything seems really far away at times, from my point of few and sometimes its like im watching myself.so just a have a few questions..

in anyones experience/knowledge,is this just a side effect that will subside within a few weeks?or will it remain while im on cipramil?
is this a side effect i should actually mention to someone like pharmacist or psychaitrist that im seeing?
im meant to be starting on 10mg and then upping the dose in a few weeks depending on how it goes..very confused atm any advice or support really appreciated

Hello, Carrie-19! Here's PsychCentral's Citalopram/Celexa (Cipramil in Ireland, I think) page. Though I have experienced derealization symptoms such as you seem to be describing, and am currently taking Celexa, I cannot tell whether or not the occasional sense of unreality is a side effect of Celexa, of some other medication, or an effect of one of my other diagnoses.

Please tell your doctor about anything you experience while on Cipramil. If you begin to feel scared or unsafe, contact someone immediately.

Medicinal side effects vary from person to person and may or may not persist. I'm sorry I cannot offer you a better answer.

it's absolutely a common side effect for many drugs. I felt that way under one I tried once - it was so weird. You should defiintely tell your doctor. Actually tell your doctor everything. Even something that seems unimportant can help - it's better to say too much than too little. Hope the med search works out for you

carrie like the other replies i would run this by your doc. you may be having an adverse reaction. aware of some ppl doing this.you may not be a candidate for celexa. idk. keep us posted of the outcome.

Today ,not so good. Those feelings still very much so around and to top it all off thoughts of SI just got way too much to handle and i could control myself the part of me that usually says thats enough you have to stop has disapeared..very tough. I know the first weeks of new meds are tough but usually for me they're not this bad. Suicide and SI and pretty much a constant thought. Think I have meeting with psych on Tuesday,if not I'm pretty sure I'll make an appt. These meds are pushing me over the edge and I can't take much more of this.

maybe you should stop the medicine immediately. I've been told before that if a medicine starts making you have suicidal thoughts you should stop taking it. i'm not a doctor and it is your decision, but that is what I would do.

the leaflet that comes with the meds says
" thoughts of harming yourself or killing yourself may be increased when first starting antidepressants, since thse medicines all take time to work, usually about two weeks but sometimes longer."
..wth is that supposed to mean?do they mean hey just stick it out you'll be fine i two weeks?thats really unhelpful :/

hmmm...I was on Cipramil as my very first treatment and it made me feel manic. I can't suggest anything but please tell your doctor as soon as you can. I wish i had done so myself. we are all very different and react differently to things.
I hope you are ok. I also find a lot of the leaflets that come with medications unhelpful or scary, they are only what is known so far about the medication in trials, etc. I've had weird reactions to things that weren't even listed in the side effects so please discuss this.

Carrie-19, I'm really concerned for you. I don't know if you live alone but if you do, until you're able to get help from your doc, please ensure that you alert even one close friend or family member about what you're experiencing and ask them to keep checking on you to ensure you're okay. I always keep my sister updated if I'm starting a new drug or treatment. Honestly, sometimes the calls are annoying BUT I know it's for my own good.

Trust you'll get thru this.
