Depression is often confused with "feeling sorry for yourself" or "being lazy." It shouldn't be.

Depression is being trapped in your own body, helpless.
Depression is when feeling something really isn't better than feeling nothing at all.
Depression is when the bad times don't make the good times even better.

Depression is like having a real live monkey on your back who grows into an ape and smothers you.

Depression is a problem that never goes away unless you die, and if their is no "you" then their is no life.

Depression is fighting a war without ammunition.

Depression is watching everyone else in the world laughing and enjoying life while I sit by myself and wonder how I became this isolated outcast.

Depression is the thing that makes me unable to relate to others, makes me feel alien and alone.

Depression is a demon i cry with and cuddle with and make excuses to.

Depression is like being a machine with broken parts, but you're still expected to function completely without being fixed.

Depression is when life is so bleak, so without any redeeming value that you dream of ways to kill yourself, research methods, plan it, and attempt it. And you fail for whatever reason and then you vow to do a better job next time.

Depression is....

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Depression is... being at the bottom of a big, black hole. You can see the light at the top, but don't have a ladder to get there.

and we are sure that the "song has ended".
When our day seems over and and the shadows fall
and the darkness of night has descended.

There's but one place to go and that is to God

Together we stand at life's crossroads
and view what we think is the end,

But God has a much bigger vision
and He tells us it's only a bend...

Depression is my best friend. Some friends come and go and time passes. Depression stays around and it feels like friends forever when you're together. I want another friendship but it's hard to leave a best friend. A best friend who no one else knows or sees. It's companionship but its not healthy. It seems like we will always be together. I hope to move on because it's not a two way relationship. It's just not working. How do I break off this dependence? How does one ever leave a best friend? I'm ready to move forward but don't know how.
Thanks for this!

Depression was a cloud between me and God's love. Now it is gone. There is healing for the soul.

You are entitled to your opinion as much as I am entitled to mine.
There is considerable research published which would challenge your generalization.

Depression is not the sufferer's fault. Depression does not make any statement about that person's relationship with God and does not mean a depressed person isn't right with God. To say otherwise is an insult.

there are many degrees of depression and I think pushing the medical model creates more harm than good.

yes, sometimes it can helped chemically. But hardly ever it is just chemistry.

there may be correlation between serotonin or whatever levels and depression... but is it a causation? Are we depressed because of serotonin levels or are the serotonin levels out of whack because we are depressed.... after all.... all of our thoughts are chemical... but I prefer to believe we are much more than neurons and hormones.

Spirituality helped me and it helped thousands of others... so why discount it? And spirituality does not have to be only about deities... but about things beyond ourselves....

Depression is a very very complex condition and cannot be simplified in one statement. It is not purely medical disease, though. For many... it may not be medical at all.
