Are there any ones worth looking at? I personally have found it difficult to feel part of these forums - I don't feel inclined to post here. Broadly, I think that there is a real difference between attitudes in the US and the UK to therapy and medication - I can't relate to what often seems to me like a preoccupation with diagnosed conditions or drugs - this is really not meant as a criticism, it's just me and how I think and feel.

I think it waxes and wanes here - I am stable on my meds and prefer the term "cuckoo" as dx - so the site is different things to different people. But it's what you make it. I hope you stay.
Thanks for this!

I agree that people on here are obsessed with meds and their diagnosed conditions. It's hard for me to post about anything because all I ever hear is about medication.

There is a UK based alternative but it's absolutely crap so I'm not going to bother telling you what it is called. Psych Central is the best anyway.

Yes, Pegasus is right, Psych Central is the best of the lot. But if you want to prove that to yourself, here's a list of links to other sites I've investigated in the past before sticking with PC:

Good luck!

I've stuck with PC now for almost 7 years (next month). I am NOT on psych meds because I can't take them (too many bad side effects), & definitely NOT obsessed with my T, however glad that I have finally found a good one that I can relate to along with a wonderful DBT group.

PC has been a wonderful community of people who I have come to know over the years & have been a wonderful support to me through some very rough times. I came here while in the middle of going through a trauma that I didn't understand what was happening around me & at the time was struggling with anorexia problems because of the stress while my mother was dying of cancer. The support was wonderful & dealing with the PTSD I was left with really helped to have this group to talk through it with.

Then I left my husband & moved 2100 miles away.....go figure, every night at the hotel while driving across the country, there were always here to check in with.

Went through a horrible time financially because of a crooked guy who I hired to install the heat pump in my farm & PC was here to support in all ways for that.

The people here on PC are the most caring & kind group of people I have ever encountered on the internet. Know there are a lot of differences between the UK & the US, but many of us have become kindred spirits even with the Atlantic between us. It just takes time to know others & to be known. PC has grown by huge amounts over these years & there are so many specialty areas where people focus themselves, so it's a bit more difficult to get to know more who are on here, but when you find the nitch that you feel comfortable in, it's amazing how home it becomes to feel.

Hope you can find a place where you feel comfortable here, where you find kindred thoughts & feelings.

Well, sometimes there might be a bit of overdiagnosing going on or at least there are names for certain difficulties I'm not always sure whether I would call them conditions so I know where you're coming from (I live in the UK, too, and come from mainland Europe originally).

However, I don't really mind that too much. What really counts for me is that people have a platform where they can share experiences and that there is a lot of support and caring. I would by the nature of it meet fewer people on an exclusive UK platform and even though it'd be easier to swap experiences about the health service and give each other advice on that, I otherwise really don't care whether someone lives in Texas, Turkey, Australia or Botswana or wherever else.

Why dont you make a social group for people from the UK, i'm from the UK and find i do notice differences in the attitude and way of thinking of those in the US, but that doesnt really matter because we all support each other as humans.
But i would still like to talk to people from the UK a little more as they kind of understand the stuff a little closer to home, like the NHS system, weather and etc.

I am from the UK and have a different view of PC. Firstly I have looked at other sites and I feel most comfortable here.

I am also accepting that people on here will talk about diagnoes and meds and therapy, for that is what I believe the site is about.

Obsessed with T - that one made me laugh too - of course I am! - I read somewhere that for therapy to work it has to become the most important part of your life - well it hasn't my kids still take prime place, but it is something I think about everyday - this journey is about major change for me and I don't think that can happen for just 1 hour a week with T or 30 minutes a day - real change is about all day everyday.

I don't just stay with one forum, usually check the todays posts and see what catches my eye - tends to be the psychotherapy one, but there are interesting posts in other forums too.

I also at times really enjoy the games - no-one talks about meds or T there. Then there are the pictures, music, posting and receiving messages of encouragement.

For me the whole bag is there.

I wonder what would make a positive difference for you on here? What forums / discussions are you likely to find more useful / easier to engage in?

Good luck in your decision - Soup

I don't know any UK dominated sites although I'm sure there would be some out there. I like the global feel of PC even though I know it's always going to be mostly US dominated (like recently people assuming everyone must be celebrating labour day lol). I think what hankster said is good; that the experience here is what you make it. If you are having trouble with all the US posts and that way of thinking try widgets suggestion on a social group for those in the UK so that you can connect on an extra level with what's familiar to you locally and then you still have access to everyone else at PC as well. I hope you find what works best for you and gives you good support and interaction
