I sit waiting for time to pass. From the time I wake up to the time I can go back to sleep. I sit wondering how to pass the time. But all that is on my mind is sleep. Why did I have to wake up? Why do I have to play this time game. I just want to go back to sleep. I do not like to be awake. Please let me sleep forever I do not want to sit - Tomorrow. Every day I play the same game and I just sit.

Hello depressedalaskan,

Is there anything that you could do besides sitting, or even something while sitting, to make the time go by faster? Some things that I like to do are exercise, using the computer, watching a TV show, writing, reading, taking the dog for a walk, and taking a long hot bath.

I remember how horrible it feels to be so depressed, but I also remember how sitting and doing nothing didn't help at all. As hard as it was, I always felt better when I accomplished something...even something as small as reading a magazine, because it temporarily made me feel better.

Do you have a therapist or psychiatrist who knows how badly you're feeling?
Thanks for this!

Does anything distinguish your days one from the other?

I'm so sorry you are feeling so down. Are you able to identify anything in your day that you might be able to look forward to? Do you have kids or partner that you live with - sometimes seeing them can be a motivator to get better. Although, I know it's not that easy...I wish it was.

Time is so precious, but it's so easy to just "exist" with the time we have and hope to be in a better place tomorrow.

Sometimes I try and read books (when I'm in the mood) of motiavational stories, mostly true stories, about people who have overcome some unbelievable odds. It's inspires me sometimes....if the character in the book can get over living his days with no limbs, for example, then maybe I can tackle some sort of small goal for the day.

Again, this is easier said than done, but sometimes it helps me. Hang in there...
Thanks for this!

You're doing something right now... reading this, you were typing that... it may not seem like a lot but in this second, in that moment you weren't waiting for time to pass. You were engaged, present, and your mind was busy doing something else (even if it doesn't feel like it). Try and get your mind to continue doing this.

I know what it feels like to not want to be awake .. or alive.. but you have to believe that there will come another moment, even if briefly, where those intense feelings will subside. Melissa gave some great suggestions on how you can try and occupy yourself. It's not easy, but by doing those things (or others that historically gave you pleasure), you're setting new paths in your brain. Paths that are based on more than wanting to be asleep. With continued practice, those paths will become easier to navigate, and engaging in those activities will get easier - and more enjoyable.

(((((hugs))))

I don't know if you can relate. But, I've been watching the clock all day, dreading going back to work tomorrow. So I decided to read a portion of the Sunday paper, get all my stuff ready for work, took the dog out for a walk and watched an old Disney movie. Time will come and time will go, but I'm also very depressed and just trying to make the best of things. I starting taking meds 2 weeks ago so I hope it helps. And I hope this helped you a little. Remember, you are not alone and things will get better. I really believe this and hope you do also!
Thanks for this!

One summer when I was pretty bad I would sit and crochet blankets with the tv on for noise. I felt a sense of accomplishment watching the rows grow and the blanket get longer. Do you have an easy craft that you can do from where you sit? Even drawing or (don't laugh) coloring in a coloring book can help pass the time. And no one but you needs to know you're coloring.

I always try to do something but some times I just sit not knowing what to do, where to go, why I have to do anything? You are right sitting does not help but some times I get so confused that is all I can do. Yes I have therapist and I have a psychiatrist. They know all. I've been under a major fight for my life for 12 years.

I think you might need to reach out to a professional. It seems like you in a pretty tough place. Can you make a call today?
Thanks for this!

Alaskan, You said you lived alone. I know living alone was very bad for me, it made my depression worse. So I got 2 cats, which required me to focus on something other than my depression, if only for a few minutes at a time. I had two little 8 wk old "babies" that needed to be played with, fed, litter changed, and just petted. Sometimes I just sat with one on my lap and stroked her. Among all the things you've gotten to help, I will add this, find something alive that needs you. Bird, rabbit, cat, whatever.
