Hi everyone, I'm not sure where I should put this message, because it doesn't fit into any of the other categories, so I'll pu it here and re-post it in a couple other places...

Anyway, I've always felt like there was something wrong with me, but I was never quite sure what. After reading the info on personality disorders on this website, I am pretty sure I have Antisocial Personality Disorder.

This website (and others I have found) describe this disorder as occuring since age 15 (in my case I realize these behaviors started happening a lot earlier, like age 7 or 8) failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors; deceitfulness and repeated lying (even over stupid, unimportant stuff); impulsivity or faliure to plan ahead; irritability; reckless disregard for safety; consistent irresponsibility; and lack of remorse.

I fit all the symptoms to a tee. These behaviors are beginning to have a severe negative impact on my relationships with friends, family members, girlfriends, etc, but, in spite of all the problems and grief that it's causing me, I can't change my behaviors. Is there anyone here who can help????

Well, usually one of the hardest things about trying to help someone with antisocial personality disorder is that they have no remorse and don't care and don't want to change. That you want to change or get help with it is a very good thing, or perhaps it means that you don't actually have antisocial personality disorder.

Since your behavior bothers you and you aren't able to change it on your own, the best thing would be to talk to a counselor. What help you can get here is more along the line of support, it isn't meant to be treatment of anyone's mental health conditions. Maybe it would help you to read some of what other people have been posting here and get to know us a little and see if there is anything that helps you. If you can tell us some specific examples of your problem behaviors and how they affect your life, maybe we can think of some suggestions.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but if you hang around for a while you're sure to find some friends here. Not sure where the right place is for this...

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
