ok - this may seem petty - but since I am having a hard time dealing with things now it ended up to be a big deal.

Went to doctor yesterday - he prescribed meds. Went to fill the meds, was told that I needed prior auth from doctor first. Called doctor first thing this morning was told that they would not do prior auth and I needed to call insurance co. to see what drug they would cover and the insurance co. would not tell me what they would cover. They said that the doctor would have to call them, which they will not do.

This is crazy to me as the doctor prescribed the med and knows that I need them but will not help me by getting the prior auth my insurance requires.
WHAT THE ______________. Why do things have to be so difficult

I ended crying at the pharmacy and end up paying for the meds out of my pocket which was about $100.00.

What is wrong with doctors and insurance companies? They do not really care about the people – they just want their damn money but do not want to help or pay for anything.

I just needed to vent somewhere. I could use some hugs today – having another hard day. Hope the meds kick in soon and help me out.

Sorry you are going through this. here on state insurance we too need things like prior authorization for certain medications and or treatments. and the doctors and phamacies and so on get a complete list of those things and they take care of the paperwork for the patients. for example

My doctor presribes medications and gives me some samples,

if my doctor does not automatically hand me the samples I request them from him because I know that my beeing on state insurance means I may not be able to have my prescription filled that same day..

I take the prescription to my phamacy,

my phamacy calls my physician,

my physician faxes the information to the insurance,

the insurance faxes the authorization to the pharmacy.

total elapse time a day or two and I don't have to do anything in the process except hand the phamacy the prescription, use the samples and call the pharmacy the next day to see if my prescription has been filled.

If you still don't have your prescription you can call your physician and ask for some samples. That way you are not having lack of medication problems while waiting for the prior authorization to go through.

Sorry to hear that you are having a bad time. I previously went through that. I have some information that will help. If you have a wholesale store in your area, like Sams, Costco, BJ's. Well they have pharmacy's in there, you do not have to be a member to use them. The pharmacy is not legally allowed to charge more that 14% more than what they pay. If you can get the generic form of your meds, you can save more money. I am taking the generic form of prozac and for three months supply, I pay $7.00. I hope this can help you out. Things are rough enough as it is. Hang in there
