Hello All,
I'm new in this forum and I want get a benefit info from experince of ppls. I have diagnosed by doc with major depression, and the reason of my depression was failing of getting marriage at 26 Nov. 2014 and I visited doc At 4 Jan. 2015 and gave me med. I have used olanzapine and flouxetine for about 1.5 month without progress and I used mirtazapine 30 mg per day for 8 months with Lamictal 200 mg per day and Changed Lamictal to Dipakin 400 mg per day with %50 progress. Now I'm on using lexapro 20 mg per day with olanzapine 2.5 mg per day about 45 days and progress about %60-%70 some times low than this and sometimes higher than this ratio. Now I wonder to know is this progress is good or not? And is my lexapro got full effected by this period or need more time than this 45 days? And really my healing progress is too slow I mean one step forward two step backward!!! And I have too much negative thinking!!! And worthless. |

Hello engmahamed: Welcome to PsychCentral! PC is a great place to find support as well as to obtain mental health related information. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members' posts, the more you'll gain from the time you spend here.
I don't know that I can really answer your questions. People's reactions to psych medications are so individual. I think this is probably something you'll need to discuss with your prescribing physician. Personally I don't feel like any of the psych med's I've ever been on were of much benefit. From my perspective, 45 days isn't a long time period within which to judge the effectiveness of a medication. I would think one would want to give it at least 2 or 3 months especially if it does seem to be doing some good now. However, there again, this sort of thing really varies from person-to-person & you should probably discuss your concerns with your mental health professional. Good luck! ![]()

In my experience I did not get 50% improved within a year, and I tried many different meds. It may be that adding another antidepressant would help, but I think I would stay on the Lexapro. Some people do recover from depression. I hope you are among those who do recover. The fact that you got depressed due to a terribly painful experience would make it more likely that you will recover |

i do hope your meds kick in soon. from my experience, my meds only help a little, i don't think i'll ever be back to what i was, i'm hoping a new med will come out to help me more. i am depressed all the time, i rely on my doc and t to help me out, but i have to take care of myself otherwise too. i find it hard to do anything, it is soo hard to get up everyday. i hope you can say you're feeling better than me its awful. therefore i do understand your feelings and hope you can get better.

Unfortunately, and I am no expert so please don't take me seriously, but if you have been experiencing these symptoms for too long, you should really find a Therapist and then maybe a Psychiatrist. Medication is a first step although it can sometimes be a long and torturous journey to find the right meds that fit you. I have been on and off different meds for almost 20 years and I am just now trying a whole new batch. Good luck to you. I wish you the best. |

Recovery doesn't happen over night. I've been depressed since I was 16 years old. I'm 29 now. I've learned to really take advantage of the days I feel good.

I would say it depends on the depression itself. Has it affected aspects in your life? Really try to look at what and who you were before the depression. Has it hindered or possibly hurt the person you once were and felt before it? If It has, seriously, then I would see a Therapist and then maybe a psych. Not a doctor!
