Hello little turtle: I don't know about this stuff... I hear about sugar is bad for you... white flour is bad for you... this is bad for you... that is bad for you... & on-&-on... One thing I do believe is that the power of suggestion is strong. If one believes that something is bad for them, & they stop consuming it, they'll assuredly feel better, no doubt about it! Personally I just try to eat a more-or-less balanced diet & not get caught up in all the latest food fads.

One thing I did read recently was an article in our local newspaper that talks about the fact that the brain requires large amounts of energy. So, when a person is tired, the brain craves sugar because it is a quick source of energy... for whatever that's worth...

thanks skeezyks---I worry about having pre-diabetes...I hear that if you have that ...you are at risk for depression and dementia and diabetes...I have enough depression already...I don't want more...I also don't know how much attention to pay about this....but I am a big worrier...

I'm a big believer in satisfying cravings before they get out of control. Give yourself a little to satisfy the craving and then move on.

my problem with sugar took me to a heart attack in 1996 and open heart surgery in 2009...don't let that happen to you....it is not as nice as the ads tell you...think prevention...get checked out...if you have pre-diabetes reverse it...

I'm sorry, little turtle. I didn't realize you were dealing with diabetes.

thanks seesaw....please don't be sorry...I do not have diabetes yet...but I tend towards that with my sugar problem....I am insulin resistant now...I am trying to deal with that by watching my sugar intake...and the type of fats I eat...and the exercise that I am trying to do...I don't know how this is going to work out...because I am old and want my treats....but I don't want diabetes and dementia....my whole life I was a sugar freak and I think it impacted my mental health...I think

nothing productive to add but hugs to all and it was informative for me to read, especially the part about the craving sugar when you are tired. I can relate to that a lot. I am in my mid thirties but have become a sugar junkie in recent years. always in the candy. it feels good in the moment, gives me a stomach ache later when i've had too much, and reading this is definitely a wake up call that it can lead to worse things to come. sometimes it's so hard to resist when everything else feels like crap.

When I first got married I started thinking more about healthy eating, I wanted Papa bear and I to be "healthy". I went on a diet and lost about a stone and cut out sugar. But his family were very opposed to this... We also had/have skimmed milk which I quite like but I was labelled a "health nut".
Oh well.. Nothing compared to that ghastly doctor IRL who called me "The worried well" NO NO I do NOT accept that "doctor's" labels, nor his abuse
