Seems like I always end up back at square 1. Just where I started. I change meds and they work good for about a year, then begin to lose effictiveness. When I go up on the dosage my blood pressure gets out of wack. I change meds again and it starts over. I'm trying to hang in there with my current med, Cymbalta, but it seems to be getting worse. Feel like I'm almost back to where I was before I was diagnosed. Does it ever end?

It seems to be a never ending cycle doesn't it. Been there too.........heck I'm still there.
I've lost count of all the different meds and different combinations there of. Since in a lot of cases you have to ramp up on the dosage to max. It has taken months, years. For awhile you get your hopes up, feel slight improvement, begin to think you have found the silver lining. Then lab tests begin to fluctuate. Numbers going up. Numbers going down. Numbers out of "balance". That glimmer of hope begins to fade. You feel the weight of the depression returning. All that is left are the tears.

((((((((((cajun)))))))))))
so sorry you feel crappy baby, you know I'm here, meds make me sick, they never seem to get them right, please hang in there, make some noises and get it sorted once and for all, have a good weekend, I know you are away, try and relax and do some fishing, be kind to you, hope your father in law is ok, pass my love on to Lisa and take good care of Zoe. You need to make a fuss, get a second opinion and sort these meds out. Love, Kerry xoxoxoxoxo ![]() ![]() |

This is why I quit meds and went for psychodynamic psychotherapy (not behavioral therapy) instead.

cajun said: Does it ever end?

Maybe not, especially if you have been trying sequential rounds of the neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitor type of anti-depressant. Our levels of neurotransmitters are set at certain level that are unique to each person. We can try to alter this with medications, but at some point, our body adapts and finds ways around the drug to return to its natural "set point" for those neurotransmitters (serotonin and norephinephrine in the case of Cymbalta). Have you tried any ADs that are not reuptake inhibitors? I am not as familiar with them, but perhaps they might be less easy for the body to circumvent. Are you also seeing a therapist? Good luck!
