I'm down today. I want to cry, but I can't... the tears just won't come... I am so overloaded that I've shut down. Even the sun and the natural beauty around me doesn't reach me... I'm so distant and far away.....

So I'm listening to REM and picking my nails...

Dear @TheGal, this thread is for members who struggle with depression, so everyone here understands how hard it is for you while you keep trying. Thank you for sharing your feelings here. I'm making good progress on rewrites of my novel. I rewrote the first chapter, in the hopes that this will 'hook' an editor and/or agent better. They always request you send in a sample, usually of the first ten pages or the first chapter, so it's important to have a good first chapter.

I'm not doing very well, like some of you. Hot weather might be making symptoms worse. Good luck with your book, @3rd rock. You really have a very good mental outlook, editing & everything. Rah rah rah, sis boom bah!

Lately I have been feeling really down and depressed. I have been trying very hard to feel better while feeling really bad.

It's been pretty hot and humid where I am, so my spirits are lower. I don't do hot weather well. And this is my least favorite time of year. I have one little thing to look forward to for a change! Tomorrow I to to the dentist to get my permanent crown put in. I am sick of the temporary crown that I have now and having to chew on one side.

I wish I had more people to share my novel with. I've gotten some feedback, which has been valuable, but I wish there was some way to get more people to read it. Continuous form letter rejections are really starting to wear me down.

I'm so sorry. I know, it's bound to wear you down at some point. BUT!!! Don't forget, some of our best & most beloved writers went through this same tough period before their luck changed.

i feel like crap.

so this morning, I found out that

Possible trigger:

a close friend died of alcahol abuse

but that's not what upset me

she then said to me, (the person who told me), well, 49, it's not old at all... a life wasted- life is short. you need to grab life every day

and I know I've not done that- and though I thought it would be a wake up call to actually do something, what it's made me realise is... that no, I don't want to do something- I'm done.

and that's sad. especially seeing as I'm younger than 49 and believe I've not begun to live

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your friend who died. Oh yes, it upsets me a lot to hear about anyone dying especially someone around my age whom I knew well. Even though they may die of something that will not happen to me, it's still upsetting. It's been very upsetting to me to find out someone had died who had taken great care of themselves. I've know cases like that - scary!

As far as "doing something" with your life with how you feel about it, I feel the same way myself. Funny thing is that, last night, my friend and I had an intensive talk about me; and what I'm doing for myself. In the past (and not long ago it seems) I had been a warrior to shoot for my dreams even though well-meaning people in my life tried to talk me out of it. And, as of right now, I'm doing OK with my finances and retired, but I'm not resting on it. Lately I feel like I'm wilting. I was such a go-getter in the past compared to now. I don't have motivation to do something to change my life for better. I feel bad about this. All I can say to you is, "you're not alone". I know that cliche may sound cheesy, but that's how I feel. Oh, and by the way, I've heard that 80 is too young to go!

Thank you for your kind words. I will continue to submit to agents, and if I can't get one I may consider submitting to smaller presses, which are the only publishers that take submissions directly from authors.

There is a labor strike on right jow, which is causing a large backlog in work at my job. As long as the strike continues, we'll have very little work to do. However, once the strike ends we will have to start working through the backlog, which will keep us extremely busy for at least several weeks.

I know this is a super super dumb trivial first world problem, but I have a bit of post vacation blues. I was out in the sun and near the lake in a house with open windows and open doors and fresh air for 3 days. Now I am back at home in my dark cold closed up AC house and its raining. I'm just trying to focus on the postive and there are plenty.

I just hope this isn't a foreshadowing of SAD

Yesterday I went to the grocery store. It was a bad day to go there, a terrible experience. But I somehow managed. And I was so very glad to get out of there. Life can be so unpredictable. I'm not happy at the moment. But I know I'll feel better later.

I don't think I'm depressed today. I'm mainly just very exhausted. There isn't much to be depressed about to be honest. I have another trip coming up in less then 2 weeks, and a couple things happening that are life changing in a good way. So I think today I am just totally drained of physical energy for some reason and I'm hoping I didn't catch anything from my last trip.
