I was just on the resources part of this website and one of the counselors in my area is a certified hypnotherapist.

I wanted to know if anyone has used and benefited from a hypnotherapist? I have low self-esteem and very depressed. I have tried medications but they haven't helped and I had a therapist for almost a year but she wasn't very good.

I am willing to try anything. I thought I could kick depression on my own. I might have to get back on meds but I hate the brain zaps and low libido.

I haven't had it but I have been asked if I will try hypnotherapy but I'm a bit unsure about it... I just don't like the idea of things messing or interfering with my brain... that's why I came off meds.... I couldn't cope with it

I'm interested in how people have benefited from it if they've had it.

I also had acupuncture suggested to me

my t does hypnotherapy - we've not talked about it in regards to me. but i think she uses it more like visualization and leave the person in total control. it's not the stuff in movies, hypotizing them with swing watches and taking over they unconsciousness.

she talks the person through a relaxed state then asks them to know what they need. that's as far as we've gotten and i admit it does help relax the tension out of me if i can get there to allow it.

i have actually tried hypnotherapy. it was about 4-5 years ago and i think i had about 15 sessions. it did not work for me, but everyone is different and has different results.

there isn't much i haven't tried to help improve my depression, and i will continue trying different things as they come along. my thoughts with hypnotherapy is that you don't really have anything to lose. there are no side effects like with medication or ect. if it doesn't work, then check it off your list and move on to another alternative. just make sure you choose someone with whom you feel comfortable.

good luck and let us know what you decide!
