Hi Group, this is my first posting. I've replied to a few, but I was afraid to post myself, it's easier to help others than me. I've been so depressed for so long, and I suffer from daily headaches and back pain, I don't know how long I can handle it. I've been going to counseling, and he feels I need more, so I found this site and many have said what I feel, so I think I made the right choice here. I also told him about this site so maybe others can join this family.
Can others tell me what they do to feel better about themselves and not feel so down?

Distraction from negative thinking is one way to get through a tough time.
There's a sticky post at the top of Psychotherapy Forum, 10 common cognitive distortions, that will help to evaluate your thought-behavior connections.

This is a great place to be; take your time and try the waters. Newcomer

I find having good professional help, helps me enormously. I see a psychologist and a psychiatrist and am on medications. Last year when I was seriously depressed, I made a point of going out every day to get a tatte and somekind of pastry. It got me up and out of the house and was something I could look forward to every day, so I'd suggest doing something every day for yourself that you enjoy, even if it's just something small.

Welcome to PC.

Hello downinnatick, nice to meet you. I try to treat myself with something I really like when I am feeling really down, it usually helps a least a little bit. Newcomer

I agree with splitimage. Find a way to distract yourself from negative thoughts, be it cooking/baking, playing online games, going on this forum, watching DVDs, et cetera. Another way is to make a CD compilation of feel-good songs and play it whenever you feel down. You may include upbeat music and such. ;]

Lol, I suggested a lot but I haven't done any of that as I am having the same problem you have. I'll probably heed my own advice of making a CD complilation ;]

I want to thank you all who replied to my posting, I will try to do something for myself, but I don't feel I deserve it. Plus I suffer from server headaches daily, that keep me from doing too much. I listen to Native American music, as well as sounds of nature, whales and ocean surfs to help to relax. Maybe going to PT for a few weeks will help me get out of the house, as well as going to counseling.

Thank you all again, I wish you all great fortune and happiness.

Big Hugs to all Newcomer

I'm so glad you found us. This is a terrific place to talk about what's going on and get support and encouragement. I'm on meds for my depression. It was a matter of getting the right combination. I prefer solitude in real life. Psychcentral keeps me from being lonely.
