I like working with hypnosis stuff too. I use it every night to help me sleep. I use hypnosis techniques to help me throughout the day too. Like today I was in a pet shop / petting zoo with some children that I was taking care of today and the guy has out snakes. I hate them things. I kept myself at the edge of the room near the exit and the whole time the guy was talking to the children about the snake he was holding I was listening to the relaxation visualization tape my therapist and I had done during one of my sessions that had progressive relaxation on it. Then when the children had enough of snakes we went and played with the puppies and kittens, rabbits, turtles, farrets and chinchilas. Thanks to relaxation visualizations I stayed completely aware of where I was and my surroundings and didn't have a panic attack.

I also like to use it to remember the good memories that I have forgotten. Though my next step is to take it a step further into accessing the harder memorys I have not done that yet so I don't know my feelings on that angle other than I'm game for trying anything that will help me remember and get rid of my nightmare and flashbacks that match the nightmare. I suspect I probably won't like it so well - I don't like the bad memories normally so that will most likely remain the same even through using hypnotic techniques to obtain access to them.

Use self hypnosis all the time to relax my body and plant healing messeges to myslef. I tend to get more memory flashes while meditating..... or being quietly busy with something else.

Myself,

My T has also helped me download hypnotic sessions for relaxation, my safe place, and sleep. I also have one for OCD that helps with rumination. Panic attack one too. I keep my MP3 player with me all the time. It is a great tool isn't it?

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. T uses hypnosis to look at bad memories because I can stay in a safe place while looking at them and processing them. I found EMDR too raw, way too raw and real - especially with the DID. So, if you're looking at hypnosis to help resolve those old triggers and flashbacks and nightmares, I have found it extremely helpful. It's a process like anything else, but helpful.

Hi Bunny I like Hypnosis *DELETED*

I can't quite get the hang of self hypnosis. I think, at this point in my healing process, it's too dangerous to use alone. I have approved downloads from T that I use. Hypnosis has really been a good thing for me.

Yes it is a great tool. I have never done EMDR. Just the idea of moving my eyeballs from side to side very fast while trying to keep my thoughts on the negative thought or flashback while tapping my fore head and saying "this will no longer bother me" makes me dizzy and confused. LOL Not to mention every person is different. EDMR leaves no room for exploring adding your own thing to the routine to fit what you need for calming yoursef and so on.

Yea DID people are considered more functional because they are able to do more things at once because of thier brains ability to rapid switch and match external triggers to memory content but that is pushing it.

I don't find EMDR raw because all it is doing is reprogramming the brain to turn off the negative aspects of a problem and focus on the positive ways to handle being triggered by that memory.

Its basically the same thing that I do - locate the memorys and put in place coping tools of relaxation, drawing, journalling and stimulating all of my senses. for example when I get triggered when on a bus because of the crowdedness I focus my hearing on the relaxation tape, my sense of touch by rubbing my mini bead pillow, my sense of taste by taking a drink of soda or juice, My sense of sight by looking for something different that I didn't see on the last trip down that street.

EDMR locates the memory and uses the sense of sight by moving the eyes rapidly from side to side, the sense of touch with tapping the forhead, the sense of sound by repeating a clicking sound or phrase "this memeory will no longer bother me"

Each person is different and some like me moving my eyes in a repetitve motion gives me vertigo and motion sickness.

I think its better to take things that the person already knows how to do and likes to do and arrange that around building that persons custom made therapy program. A person isn't going to keep doing something they don't like or is not well fitted to their daily plans. Some days Im home and some days Im not. I can see me sitting in a court building lobby under stress and moving my eyeballs rapidly back and forth tapping my forehead with one or two fingers repeating aloud "click click I will remain calm click click I will remain calm..." Yup one ride to the nut ward coming up. But If I am sitting in a courthouse lobby under stress and I slip on headphones andpull out my drawing case (which has a bean bag lap pillow on the bottom of it) and I smooth it and put it on my lap and begin to use the desk top to draw or journal with no one is going to see that as being unusual and all my senses are being stimulated at the same time while using progressive relaxation to stay aware, calm and take care of what is triggering me all at the same time and an added bonus I don't get dizzy and confused trying to keep my eyeballs moving one way, my hand moving another way and my mouth moving with a repetative phase and my thoughts focused on the trigger.

Yes I find hypnosis very helpful and I can do it any where any time and alone or with a therapist. Very versitile and set up for each individual clients needs.
