You're welcome. I will be adding to this list as I locate the pages in my journals that contain book lists and so on. I know I have a list of movies and treatment centers and other professionals that work with DID at home too somewhere.

I loved them all because they each had something (if not the whole book ) that helped in what my therapist at that time and I were doing in therapy.

Now for specifics the workbooks are amazing. They all are sitting on my shelf here and are still being used today when we located most of them 4 almost 5 years ago. Many people in real life and on line ask how I manage to stay on track with all the zaps from lifes "awards" and this is how I do it. If something is dragging me down or getting the best of me I hit the books. Its much faster help then calling a therapy office, leave a message and wait for therapist to get out of their sessions, recieve the message and call me back in the 2-3 minutes that they have before their next client. With these workbooks first I'm checking to see if its something that I can do or take care of myself instead of depending on the therapist to fix me and then second if I can't figure things out I still have the books to keep me hanging on until I get that call back from the therapist and third if I cant settle in with the books in the meantime I know its something new or major and it's time to forget about waiting for the call back I hop the next bus to the therapy office. With this system in place I've had only one appointment that was "an emergency drop everything Im coming in" situation and I have had the same therapist for almost 2 years and have not yet had to call her other than returning her scheduling calls between appointments. These workbooks are truely a lifesaver for me.

As for specific authors and people listed here:

Laura Davis first and foremost. She and her books have in one way or another been a part of my life now for close to 14 years. She is an amazing person, teacher and author.

Dr. Tracy Alderman, Karen Marshall, Nancy J Napier, Rachel Downing, Dr. Colin Ross, and Jean Darby Cline are also all fantastic people and authors that have been an amazing help to me and my therapist. over the past 4-5 years.

these are great resources.

have you considered finding and making live links for the websites? how about including the ISBNs for the books or videos?

perhaps ask others if they're interested in helping to make these resources more readily available and more helpful with full addresses, publishers, weblinks, etc. we know it is a lot of work tracking down all those book ISBNs and web URLs but doable and most likely helpful to more folks than just this system. the more the merrier as many in this forum already own lots of the books listed or have the URLs in their own bookmarks/favourites.

maybe then it could be made into a sticky post up top of this forum.

our pennies.

Its a great suggestion would love to do that but I don't know how or have the time. Just going through 4 years of my journals for book and author to compile this list for another website took me almost a month.

Also it is very easy to locate these books -

Typing in the title of these books on amizon.com will get you the all the information a person needs for buying the books through them.

They can also be located at any bookstore. Just call your local bookstore such as waldrons, barns and noble, daltons and so on and tell them you are looking for the book. they will type it into their computer and let you know if they have it in stock, if they deal with the publishing company it is through and if they can order you a copy. Their comnputers are linked to every publisher they get their books from. I went in with just a title and Daltons had my copy ready for me to pick up in a week.

For those that like me who don't always have the money to buy each book the local library has many of these books and to find them ask the librarian or type into the librarys card catalog by title, book or subject. here in the united states librarys have what is called - interlibrary loan program> the reference deck fills out a form and sends it to all the librarys in the united states and with in a week or two one of the librarys sends your library a copy.

There are also college librarys and college bookstores that have some of these books.

Therapy professionals, crisis centers, physicians also have books on their bookshelves and all of mine were very happy to loan me a book of interest.

As for the websites typing in the persons name into your search bar will get you to thier websites.

Off the top of my head typing in Dr. Colin Ross, The Ross Institute or Timberlawn will get you to any links needed for Dr. Ross

Laura Davis can be found at http://www.lauradavis.net/

Nancy J Napiers website link is posted in the thread by me called - great thread. I put it here in the dissocitive forum and the general forum

I can also ask the moderators if this thread can be pinned so that it doesn't keep getting burried.

Yooo Hooo ((((((((KimmiyDawn)))))) resource list

By the way if anyone knows of other NONFICTION books, movies and websites that could help others feel free to post here too.

Hi Myself, hi Everyone,

Thanks for putting up the list. i wish that i had someone to read with, so tired of always being alone in all of this.

i recently found "Managing Traumatic Stress through Art" by Cohen, Barnes and Rankin. i'm trying to get myself to do it - hoping it will help. So stressed. If only there were a DID support group IRL somewhere .
i brought it in to T this week and am going to try.
Anyone else have it?

love,
kerria

that was one of my first books my therapist photocopied for me. I took the exercises and changed them to fit me for example on of them (protective container) is to think of a problem and draw the type of containment box needed for you to put that problem inside the box, close the lid and walk away from it. I draw fantastically ...while in the memory piece (alter) known as Mary otherwise forget it. So I took a shoe box and lidI covered them COMPLETELY inside and out with construction paper. I chose brown for solid oak wood. then I folded and glued a few sheets of construction paper to make a dividing wall the width and height of the box and glued it in so that I had a larger space and a smaller space in the box. In the smaller area I put in a red pen, black pen and a blue pen and pads of paper the size of post its and 3 x5 cards. Now instead of a drawing of a containment box I had a containment box. Whenever something keep bouncing around my head I go to the box write it down on a paper. Put the paper in the larger space and put the lid on it and ... walk away. weird but it works. Im doing something simular with a nightmare that I am having. I bulit a scale model of the house that I grew up in since the nightmare locationis that house. Now all I need to do is as I remember the nightmare I can put what I remember into the house. Since right now the house is at my therapist office I get to walk away from it every appointment.

For establishing a safe place I got a huge box and decorated it like my mental safe place la la land.

Such a great book that one is. you will enjoy it. makes working on yourself fun.

recently my therapist went to a workshop by Belleruth Naparstak. She came back with some great material and I asked her to write down the woman's name so that I could look her up on the internet. What I found was an amazing place called - healthjouneys.com

where Belleruth Naparstak has her great imagery samples, tapes and books for sale. I am having a great time listening and doing the different audio spa treatments and so on so I thought there may be others who would like to try these things out. there is material there for all kinds of problems. Happy listening and reading and taking mini breaks to all.

To get to her stuff type in her name in your search bar and then click on the link that includes health journeys. The subject line says Individual and group psychotherapy links and http://www.debsamuelslpc.com/links.html health journeys is one of the links there

I have a book called ! "Multiple Selves, Multiple Voices" by Phil Mollon.

It is written evidently for a student of psychiatry and as such doesn't seem to be very informative for either those whom are looking for self help. It clues you in on some of the mechanism involved, but again I think personal experience can speak for itself in the learning / healing process in a better way than this book can.

I may be being overly critical though... Seeing that I actually dissociate when reading the book it makes it hard to retain the information or to come to a safe conclusion!

Just the title itself has me interested. I have been doing research on both the mechanics and from experiences in order to help myself so I read all kinds Thanks.

Book -- Invisible Heros by Belleruth Naparstak just released out in paperback.

I don't know about the whole book but I can tell you all that it definately has some great relaxation, imagry type exercises in it. My therapist and I did 2 of them today (well yesterday considering it is now after midnight) The first one was a general deep relaxation exercise and I was at the relaxation level of almost falling asleep equivelant to my la la land but yet I was still aware of my therapist voice reading it into a tape for me. The second one was geared specifically for when a person wakes up from nightmares so the person can relax again to go back to sleep. I would have fallen asleep if it wasn't for that stupid drop feeling you get sometimes when falling asleep. One minute I was listening and drifting and bang that fall of the cliff feeling hit so I sat back up a bit feeling giggly over telling her "I won't fall asleep" before we started. If the rest of the exercises work as well as those two did today it's a book for everyones bookshelf. happy reading/sleeping to all.
