I am having a really hard time lately. I look in the mirror and feel so bad. I look at old photos and cry. I just turned 48 this past week. My weight is out of control. I am really short and weigh about 180. I am so disgusted. I just want to run and hide. nowhere to run though

Aww---bebop!
I am going through the same thing! I just turned 48 and want to lose 40 lbs. But, like Ozzie, I just want it to go away. I do all the wrong things. I don't exercise, don't eat right, don't drink water. It's almost a self-sabotage. I so want to lose weight, but I love my junk food. I was thinking maybe I would try to resolve myself to do one thing a week. Like, drink water. Then the next week drink water and cut out ice cream. etc. I am a lifetime weight watchers member gone astray. I promised myself after the last time I lost the weight I would NEVER put it back on. Guess what... Let's try to come up with a plan. |

hey Pet. wow I knew I liked you the other night when we met in pc. I need to lose at least 70 but I can't exercise at all. waaahhhh. I think I have lost a little from being sick but I don't eat alot of junk food. I am a southern girl and we do love to eat! lol and we know how to cook fattening foods. mostly that anyway. I did lose on a no carb diet but that is too expensive. luv ya hon

All I can think of while reading your posts is that my doctors would love it if you would provide me with even a little bit of your food & make it easy for me to eat again...It is true...being sick can cause weight loss along with the stress from trauma. Something I wouldn't wish on anyone nor would I wish the medical result from not eating either. Gaining weight should be easy....but it seems to take longer gaining than loosing.
Hope you can give each other the support that is needed. debbie

sigh. the idea is to not think of eating as a diet. (We layppl don't use that term right!) Think of it 1) as adding healthy foods to what you already eat 2) look at it for only 1 or 2 pounds a week, not the whole picture 3) think of the long range effects not short term , as in... if I do this just easy like for the rest of my life... I will succeed!
Again, begin with adding a nutritious food to what you are eating. When we can give our bodies nutrition, it can then do what it needs to -to the not so healthy foods! Otherwise, it has to store it. Everyone, even me, can do this ... change of habit... don't worry about taking anything you enjoy off the plate.. not right now... it's way too depressing. ME? I'm going to eat a salad with each major food time... even if I have to order it extra, and use only half the dressing or less!

I've cut out sugar soda the past two weeks. I noticed a drop of a couple of pounds right away. Usually I'd drink 3-4 cans of Coke or Pepsi a day. I replaced it with Minute Maid lite lemonade - lots of ice - it doesn't taste as good straight out of the can.
I thought I'd have a hard time with the change - rebound headaches at least - but I haven't had a problem at all. Little steps like that and what Sky is recommending are the key. The one I can't seem to manage is not drinking anything 30 minutes before, with, or after your meal. I transcribe for a doctor who sees patients who want bariatric surgery, and that's one of the things they cover. I can't manage to eat without being able to wash it down with something. It must be really hard for people with dry mouth problems. ![]()

(((((((((((((((((((((((((B))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I know what your going through. I eat constantly. All the wrong foods. I cant help it. I, like you, panic if I cant get my hands on some food. I am not extremely overweight, but I am overweight and I would like to lose about 20-30 pounds. I think starting a support of somekind is a good idea. Checking in daily on what we have eaten and weekly we can check in on any weight we have lossed. I dont think drastically changing our diets overnight is a good idea. This will ultimatly cause a relapse. i think lessening our portions is a good start. i am not a soda drinker and never have been. i mean I will have a sprite here and there but for the most part, I drink water and milk. So the soda wil not be hard for me to cut out. Anyway, you are not struggling alone. I think maybe we should get a few of us together on this and set some goals. What do you think? |

well, you need to plan ahead. purchase some types of non-perishable foods you enjoy eating but are easy to forget that you have in the house. for me, it's peanut butter, crackers, soup, oatmeal, ramen noodles, cinnamon toast, popcorn. some frozen foods are easy to forget about, too.
i can relate to the panicky feeling when hungry. do you like to cook from scratch? |

bebop . . . that's good you are eating more frequently . . . i wish i would do that . . . sometimes GUM helps me when i'm bored
Today I just learned about a weight management strategy called Volumetrics http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05153/513999.stm Volumetrics is based on the science of satiety, the feeling of fullness and satisfaction at the end of the meal. You can eat a lot and lose weight. |
