ok well, im your typical binger, eat wayyy too much of all the worst things. ive done it for about 5 years now and i think its finally time to stop. my problem is though, i cant. i would a little help or some strategies to at least help curb my cravings.

i would also like to know a little more about cleanses... i know what they are but i would like to know more specifically what i need to do. also, if there are any bingers out there who have successfully done a cleanse and could tell me about.

thanks

I haven't done a cleanse but I can relate to binging. I have it under control most of the time but it is hard at times. I eat to cope with emotions. I cut out sugar other than: honey, maple syrup.

I cut out all refined carbs so only complex carbs and eat lots of veggies and some fruit.

Low fat dairy.

Eggs.

Nuts.

Beans.

Lean animal protien.

H2O

I believe that if we eat pure clean food then are body will cleanse itself it just takes a little time.

It's hard in the beginning but I found but I'm used to it now. I don't have the highs and lows from sugar and processed foods but I have emotions that I have to work hard on controlling and not letting them control me. Uncomfortable feelings = binging for me but I'm dealing with the emotions as hard as it and I don't always succeed. I'm a work in process but I'm doing OK.

Hope this helps?

I can relate to craving bad food so I don't have any in my house. For example if I make cupcakes or buy a tray of cupcakes I will eat one after another until they are gone. Why? Because I love cupcakes.... now if I'm having a bad day emotionally I medicate myself by eating the cupcakes, and anything else I can get my hands on. But now because I don't have the junk in my house I am forcing myself to deal with my emotions.

Exercise I've also found helps allot!!! Especially when my husband and I aren't getting along exercise helps me blow off some steam and its healthier than a tray of cupcakes.

Many hugs Kristi you are definatly no alone.

Change is really hard but have faith and decide that you want to change things and you can one step at a time. Remember it's not about perfection it's about trying to change old habbits. Be kind to yourself.

I am a former bulimic and I think that cleanses play into the all or nothing attitude that leads to unhealthy relationships with food.

I think geez's post is the perfect distillation of what works. At least for me.

Popcorn is not bad for you...some of the microwave kinds are 100 calories a bag and there is really a lot in them
Good luck..I have always had the problem of treating my emotions with food!!

Placeholder hit it right on the head. I have dealt with bulimia for almost ten years and I got into a very unhealthy relationship with cleanses. Although they claim to be good for most, most of them put you on a restriction of what you can and cannot eat. Most of the progams lasting almost two to three weeks really mess with your mind. Once you fall off the cleanse wagon, you crave EVERYTHING.

Personal research has shown me that cleanses really dont do as much as they claim. Dr. Weil explained it very well by going through the bodily processes that eliminate the toxins from your body. The body is a miraculous thing if you just letit do its thing.

A support person always helped me when in the face of a binge as well. The second that I feel out of control I shoot out text messages to supportive people in my life that know my situation. If you need an innocent bystander to walk you through it, feel free to shoot me a private message. I can help
