Hi iv'e just joined this site thing cos i think i might have a slight eating problem but dont really think its an eating disorder so im not sure if im over reacting?!?
Ive never had a weight problem, always been quite slim, though recently ive wanted to lose a few pounds that ive gained since bein at uni, but for the last couple of months ive started to make myself sick after meals- not every meal and i dont binge really badly, sometimes i think ive already eaten alot so might as well eat whatever and then il be sick. Feel very crappy when i do this and since blurting it out to my mum last week when i was upset thought i cud stop when ever and promiced her i would other wise she said shed make me see someone, but it seems to just happen now, and i dont even realise im doing it till its done.
Anyone kno how i can stop doin this? i know it isnt healthy and i really enjoy singing, so probabily wont help the voice!
this is a very long msg....sorry for blabbering

i remember when i had a "minor eating disorder" I kept ignoring it.. thinking I could control it. I could stop. I would stop. I should have sought help then. I now binge and purge daily. I advise you to get help now..even if you feel it is minor.

Agreed...

You made a big step already just by joining and posting at PC...so welcome...

Since you have concerns it would be best to talk to a professional...what might be minor now may not be later...

i would tell someone who can help you talk to your parents and who is on board with you getting a therapist.

Finding a therapist or counselor would probably help some, especially if you get to be comfortable with them. My ED started as minor too and it wasn't until I tried to stop that I realized I couldn't. I have quit now, but I have to constantly watch myself so that I don't start again. Some people can quit on their own, some can't, that's why I suggest a T. Some things that can help are to eat more frequent smaller meals. Also try your hardest not to throw up, even when you feel like you can't help it. If you stay around people right after eating the chances of you throwing up are way smaller because many, even when they feel like they can't hold it in, can if there only option would be purging publicly.

I hope you find the help you need, and welcome to PC.

Good luck

How about just go to a nutritionist then, and let the nutritionist help you decide if you need more than that.

There are a suprising number of people who make themselves sick a few times when they are young adults, and then they don't develop a problem, but if you feel that you might do it again, please talk to someone. If you can't stop, then it's serious.

my mum told my family yesterday, my dad was really supportive, more than i expected- thought he would just be dissapointed. I havent spoken to my brother or sister yet, they were very surprised so i feel like ive let everyone down. At least they know now.

So, is your mum going to get someone for you to see/talk to? I wouldn't put it off as it won't get "easier" the longer it continues.
