I don't crochet, but I knit. I love it.

No, but I'd love to learn how.

I am a knitter, and I do needlepoint/embroidery when I have the opportunity.

I knit and embroider. I'm not very good at crochet yet, but I do have Ravelry.com account I don't really use yet. I'm more into making home-made cards right now. But yes, using my hands to create nice things for myself and loved ones is a great stress-reliever

Hey!!

Yeah for sure- I wish I had some time to write more but I actually started a little group some time last year in the social groups- Stitchin', Crochetin', Knittin's & Stuffs of the sort
http://forums.psychcentral.com/group.php?groupid=253

I am not a great leader at all and need to be more active and repost some pictures and all- but anyone is welcome to join if they want to- Not really hopping and happening spot but yeah...

I too am trying to teach myself, having some troubles but also have made a lot of hats--

My Pass time this last Holiday season due to stress, was making hats to donate for kids
I think while crocheting- for some reason it is like therapeutic for me in away, and in the end i have made something!

Actually last August was really stressful and that was when I made my first hat- I don't know it was like I was so frustrated with the world and myself and people around me that the crocheting really helped with it all and I made some thing.

I want to learn how to knit, have some stuff for it but having trouble understanding how to even get started--- THinking at time I should spend more time with "mastering" crocheting before going onto another thing

LoL not good at it but once I crocheted a round rug (same method as round oven mit) from scrap fabric strips with a big needle. It was so fun because it was so fast and the rug was done in 3 days. If you tear big pieces of fabric stop ripping 1-2 inches (same as the strips are broad) before the end and start at the side so you end up with one long strip instead of many short ones.

i've been crocheting since i was very little. i have at least 15 years of experience and i'm only 23 in April i mostly did hats when i first started, but in more recent years (after having kids) i taught myself how to read patterns and have made a ton of stuff since. i've even written my own patterns.

i'm hoping to be able to set up a charity group soon, through my church.

if you have a Ravelry account, add me! i'm JazzyJaimz i'm online just about every day. i'm working on getting some patterns published online right now.

it really hit me last year, that crocheting for me was the best thing. i used to draw a lot, and then i found that my talent plateaued. but with crochet, there are so many things you can do...you can even imitate knitting! i can look at something that i like and i can make it, and it's real and tangible and it's there in my hands, not sitting on a piece of paper. it's like a 3D printer, only it's not as expensive or as fast but it makes me feel like i'm worth something. i love it.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, I crochet, but I have to be in the mood to do it. If I'm not in the mood -- I do crossword puzzles. And if I'm not in the mood to do that -- I get online. And if I don't want to get online, I play solitaire. LOL

oh i miss solitaire, haha! i forgot about that...

i used to have to be in the mood, but after kids i was like ya know, i should do this more often so they can have some stuff to give their kids later, maybe, haha.

that, plus, i wanted to do more for charity...so i make myself be in the mood for it. it's like a job, but it's still awesome, and it's helping people.
Thanks for this!

I love to crochet but stopped years ago because there is no time anymore. I'm overwhelmed with real life stuff. Nice to hear that people still crochet. Thanks for posting.

I love to crochet. I'm actually a crochet instructor even though I am self taught. I also know the basics of knitting, but knitting never clicked with me the way crocheting does.

Yes! I have been crocheting since I was nine and I love it. I am also keeping it going by teaching my daughter how to sew and make things for her dolls and her bunny rabbit. Good thread!

Yes! I crochet and also knit. I have been doing a bit of both and I hope to be selling my crafts at a craft show in town this summer. It is quite relaxing and feels like such an accomplishment when a piece is finished.

i have successfully taught five people how to crochet in the past two months. i'm quite happy about it, haha.

it's easiest when you have someone to show you. and yeah, time-consuming, but so worth it, imo.
Thanks for this!

There's a club at my university for knitting and crocheting and I always plan to go because I want to learn and also want to meet people with a common interest but I'm too afraid.

Crocheting is one of my favorite hobbies. I recently purchased a knook which is a way to use a crochet hook with a string attached. You knit with a crochet hook, going to give this a try, as knitting for me hasn't caught my interest that much so far. I have a friend who taught me her mother's pattern. A giant granny square and I've made all my adult children afghans pretty cheap and quickly at holiday time. Also great for a little baby afghan.
Anyone tried hooking rugs, quilting or other interesting handy work? Very good stress reliever and great way to focus on something pretty.

good thread, thanks

I learned to crochet a couple of years ago (while in Residential for ED - crocheting and knitting were insanely popular there). I haven't done it so much for a while, but I really should get back into it. It's a good distraction and helps calm me down sometimes.

I've only made scarfs before, but I keep telling myself I'm going to learn how to do other things.. one of these days.
Thanks for this!

While for me, I think I do find it easier to just try it out on my own with the help of books (I definitely prefer books over YouTube because I've found so many mistakes in YouTube videos... at least books have to go through publishers and editors and pattern testers before it can be published), I think for most people, having someone there to show you how to do it is best. I love teaching! For those that want to learn, check out local craft stores and local yarn shops. Some places have specials where you can take a class for half off if you sign up during a certain period (the class doesn't have to be during that time, just when you hand over the cash to take it).

Is anyone working on any projects right now? I have quite a few in progress... Mostly, a prayer shawl for my good friend that's going on a mission trip to Zimbabwe and a granny square blanket for my sister. It was her Christmas present, but it's made up of 48 squares with 6 different colors then three different colors around the border... That's a lot of ends to sew in... And that's where I'm at... Sewing in.. hundreds and hundreds of ends.... I learned my lesson about granny square blankets....
Thanks for this!
