I have a rant
![]() Further down the road we're coming up to a green light. A car on the intersecting street has a red light but turns right in front of us as we're entering the intersection. I'm pretty sure whoever made that right on red law meant it's okay to turn right on red when there are no cars coming with a green light ![]() One more. I'm almost home when I see a car at a stop sign on a side street half a mile ahead. He waits until I'm 50 feet away and then pulls out into my lane. Some people should not be driving. Okay... that was a rant ![]() I also have a rave. Banana, yoghurt, and mango smoothies. The ingredients cost about 75 cents and the taste is amazing. Healthy too. And afterward you can put hot water and dish soap in the blender pitcher and turn the blender on high and the pitcher washes itself ![]() |

I have no rave but do have a rant. Some children came into the pet store today and started looking at a rabbit hutch. This hutch was sitting on top of another hutch. The three of them then tried to pick up the rabbit hutch, and proceeded to continually bump into the cage that actually had rabbits in it until the cage had actually moved across the floor. Of course they had no parents with them. So I marched over and told them off.
Someone else came in asking about a fish that was in a bowl, and she stood there tapping her fingers on it as she was asking about it. Another person came in and stuck their fingers in a bowl, and then picked it up to look at the fish. |

Below features the Finnish driving exam: How many average Americans do you think would pass that one? Americans sadly have no real appreciation of automobiles, the top selling car is the 4 cylinder Toyota Camry, soulless, gutless, amorphic blob of car with no road feel and zero personality. It is so bad that even VW in 2012 has dumbed down its Passat (I have 2008 estate) to meet American's taste for the generic look and soft feel of its rivals. My only hope for an AFORDABLE car fun car in the future with any real soul lies in Mazda, as it has severed its ties with Ford, is building some truly engaging new vehicles on its own terms ( the 6 looks and drives better than anything in the Family car class, ditto the CX 5, and the upcoming 3 hatch back looks like an Alpha Romeo) There is a lot of things I love about America, but our relationship to cars is not one of them. Sorry to co-opt your rant George... |

It's okay... I'm pretty sure there was a general rants and raves thread here once. Anyone is free to post. Stuff happens and things go wrong often enough in life without aid.

![]() All else being equal, did you read about New Jersey? They're raising their $100+ fines for being in the passing lane and not just passing. New Jersey Looks To Increase Penalties For Left-Lane Drivers I imagine the guy thought he could get further but then found he couldn't and his turn came up, etc. It was a guy wasn't it? :-) I love when my husband decides to turn right from the left lane of the highway at the last minute, barely getting over in time to exit, etc.

that reminds me a bit of my experience with italian drivers..they seem to think they are the only ones on the road. road signs are ignored, safety distances between cars arent kept and i got constantly cut off.

![]() Okay... truthfully it was 3 car lengths and I and the car in front were doing ~35ish and the posted limit was 30mph. So technically we were all in that grey area of the law ![]() ![]() And it was dark but I'm guessing the driver was female or teenaged male ![]() Mmh I could but then I'd have to remove the pits... or drink them :P Strawberries are great when they are cheap and plentiful. Very healthy, refreshing, and yum ![]() ![]() Okay... I think the rave part is better but here's another rant. Drivers crossing parking lot stripes. The stripes are there for very good reasons... the best one is to prevent total chaos and accidents. Of course there are always people who think the rules don't apply to them ![]() |

Sounds good
![]() Or roasted them in embers? It's amazing how much corn's flavor is lost in just a short time after being picked. Hey, you live in the country. Do you grow anything? |

I grow Mortgage Lifter tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, sugar snap peas, leaf lettuce, potatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, onions, spinach most often. I used to grow carrots for Dusty but don't have any growing now. I like fresh herbs too.

![]() I would love to have a garden. I recently bought a nonworking tiller and pressure washer for $50. I sold the pressure washer for $65 and bought a $20 carb kit and fabbed up a new throttle cable holder and I now have a working tiller for $5 ![]() Unfortunately I have no place for a garden. I am resodding my sisters yards with St Augustine though and the tiller is really helping with that. I've repaired so many machines lately that I wonder about having a small engine repair shop. That would take most of the fun out of it though ![]() I'd love to have some chickens and maybe a couple of small pigs too. The pigs would be for pets and the chickens for eggs. We had chickens, pigs, sheep, and cows on the place I spent my first 4 years. I watched my mother kill and prepare chickens. Don't think I could do that unless I was starving ![]() Did you grow up in the country? Ever eat poke salad or chicken ovaries? If not you didn't miss much ![]() Last edited by Anonymous37781; Jul 21, 2013 at 09:05 PM. Reason: arrrgg |

Tomatoes are my favorite food fresh from the garden. I can't eat hydroponic tomatoes that look like tomatoes but taste like cardboard. Sugar snap peas are tasty right from the garden without cooking.
Yes I grew up in the country. We canned food and slaughtered hogs, chickens and rabbits. I've never eaten poke salad or ovaries. We used to pick dandelion greens and others for salad. I also grew up eating squirrel brains and deer heart. ![]()

Fun fact: did you know that each strand of silk on an ear of corn corresponds with a kernel of the corn?
We used to take the silk off and then rewrap the outer leaves, precook the corn until almost done and then wrap in aluminum foil and finish cooking by the campfire. It is way cool that I have nearly 80 acres and can camp without being interrupted by other people. Also having a hammock in the woods can be great fun. ![]()

That is cool. And no I didn't know the corn thing. I vaguely recall some other funny thing about corn. Something about the number of kernels or the number of rows (columns?) of kernels. 80 acres sounds like a lot. I know an old couple in east Texas who garden and grow corn. They have maybe 8 or 10 acres.
I don't think I could eat the squirrel brains. I don't think I ate the chicken ovaries. They looked like clusters of really gross grapes. Poke salad is okay... a lot like spinach... kind of bitter. PITA to cook if you don't want to get sick from it. The kind of stuff you ate when you really had to. Deer steak and sausage are the best meats I've ever eaten. Or maybe it was just the times. Hmmm I'm not getting the rant and rave vibe anymore. Rave: spun honey. Rant: American Nutella |

Speaking of corn - I remember last summer a family somewhere went through a corn maze...farmers do this for fun. Anyways the family got lost and ended up calling 911 because they couldn't find a way out.

Sugar on corn :O That's worse than beans in chili
![]() I was trying to figure out how anyone could get lost in a corn field and then I realized I mentally added an i to maze. Making a maze using corn sounds pretty cool. If Yoda is still here I believe what I was thinking was that all corn ears have an even number of rows? Another corn fun fact ![]() |

Okay it may not go directly on the corn and I'm not a rocket scientist but
![]() I have a sister who likes canned creamed corn. I can't eat it. Corn has a lot of sugar in it but this stuff she eats is way too sweet. Fresh creamed corn is pretty good. We ate a lot of corn growing up. Creamed, boiled on the cob, roasted in the shuck. My oldest sister used to make corn fritters. Those were great. Oh and we eat a lot of corn bread down here too. It's good with lots of butter... but what isn't ![]() I'd be too embarrassed to call anyone if I got lost in a corn field lol. |

Do you mean you put sugar/salt in a pot of water for cooking corn or put it in water for watering the corn plants like fertilizer?

MMM
Rave; sun warmed tomato's from the garden, crisp green apples from the trees, & wild rhubarb dipped in sugar. (Parts of my childhood were pure heaven.) Rant; living in an apartment complex where there is no community gardens. Yep just picked corn roasted in the ashes, mmm. Now add a fresh caught walleye to the fire pitt and throw in some veggies w/ it! Sit around the fire by the lake watching the sun set & eating all that! Then make the Smores! More heaven.
