I took a silly little quiz the other day, I don't even remember where I found it. But one of the questions was, who were your favorite teachers.
I listed three of them. Two were from high school and one from third grade. I've always kept in touch with one of them, but lost track of the one I most wanted to contact. After some long investigative searches etc. I found her in Nebraska. She moved the year after I graduated then got divorced. I contacted her to tell her how much she meant to me and we have been in touch ever since. Two weeks ago I tracked down my third grade teacher and sent off a little note, figuring she wouldn't remember me, but I wanted to thank her for some of the warmest memories I have of childhood, walking with my hand in hers in the playground at recess. It was a safe place for me, and I told her how much I appreciated the extra attention. I just got a Christmas card! She thanked me for contacting her and letting her know she made a difference in my life. She talked about my ponytail and how she used to love to watch it swing, lol. She just retired in 2002! Anyway, it's never too late to tell someone they made a diffference in your life. ![]() |

That is so cool.
- I - did the same thing - I - located a teacher of mine after 25 years had past since our last contact together. We had corresponded for some time after she had left - MY - school and then contact was forbidden in an abusive way. - I - dissociated during that abusive situation and so - MY - memories of her and another teacher ended up as about 7-9 memory pieces (alters). Once - I - became co conscious with these pieces of memories (alters) I started looking for - MY - lost teacher. Even though 25 years had past - I - was able to locate her. She was able to help - ME - put some of - MY - memories in order. and clarify some of - MY - foggy areas that were based on town rumors. |

Wow, you guys, thats great!! I have thought and though about this question and I can't think of one teacher that went the extra mile for me. But, the one I liked the best, was my first grade teacher. She was young and very nice. I also remember my sixth grade teacher. She spanked me, with a wooden board, in front of the class, for getting an F on my test. I was so embarrassed, not to mention, it HURT!! My, how times have changed.

Then for sure track her down and tell her just what you thought of that! ![]() |

***Nice Topic
![]() My 6th grade teacher HE ROCKED. His name was Mr. Overstreet we called him Mr.O. He was also the Track coach and the Cheerleading coach. Does that tell ya a little bit about him. Very fun, active and he always pushed us hard to help us realize that we could be better at anything we did. I see him often around town and we have reminaced about this and that. Mr.O is definatly a teacher that I will never forget ![]()

My favorite was my Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Fujita. I will never forget how she would protect me from the other kids. She wouldn't let them pick on me when she was around and reprimanded them if they did it when she wasn't around.
She was elderly when I was in Kindergarten (about 27 years ago) so I don't know if she is still alive, but it would be cool to find and thank her.

I emailed a former teacher of mine to tell him how I appreciated all that he did for me. He emailed me back but I'm not going to continue contact with him for personal reasons. I wish I could get a hold of my English teacher Mr. Adams. He went the extra mile for all of us and I really liked him. He is the one that started calling me Jan and it jas just kind of stuck. Mr. Adam's was the best teacher I ever had.

Years ago, I sent a letter to my sixth grade english teacher thanking her and telling her how I srtill remembered her lessons. I didn;t know it then, but she was retiring that year and they read my letter at her retirement dinner.
years after that I ran in to her at the grocery store. She had no idea who I was and seemed a bit confused. So sad. I was glad I wrote to her when she was healthy enough to appreciate the thanks. |

Just wanted to tell everyone (especially those that have posted here) that it's letters, emails, and phone calls, like you've made, that are part of what makes teaching wonderful. Seldom do people say thank you in this day and age, and knowing you made a difference to someone is a wonderful feeling. It makes all the endless meetings, irate parents, and administrative drama fade away.
![]() As a teacher, thank you.

My favorite teacher was my 8th grade social studies teacher, with whom I am still in touch, 28 years after leaving 8th grade!
I had some college professors I keep in touch with as well. |

My Kindergraden teacher Miss Annabelle Duffy she was so sweet and kind, then my third grade teacher because she helpped me overcome my fear of arithmatic (sp) Miss Feldman as the most wonderful woman, held me on her lap everytime we had arithmatics and soothed my terror, my 2nd grade teacher got angry with me for doing a math problem diffrently than she wanted, she pulled my pants down and whipped me in front of the whole class, one of the boys told his mom and she told Mama, they went to the school and she was fired right then and there.

It was really heartwarming to read all of your stories about such wonderful teachers. To be completely honest, I don't think I really ever thought 'great teachers' existed, but it must be true after reading your posts. I've had some 'decent' teachers in the past, but definitely no 'great' ones. In fact, now that I'm thinking about this... I wouldn't mind contacting some of the teachers that treated me terribly and letting them know what I really think of them.

the only teacher i can remember is the deputy head of my secondary school mr cutts, i was always in trouble with him whether i went to school or not, but thats not the main reason i remember him, every monday without exception he would get his electric guitar out in assembly and play " whisky in the jar" and make us all sing along with him, i still remember all the words to the song to this day lol

One of my dearest, longest-held fantasies is to become famous enough to get on the "Tonight Show" or one of the other late-night talk shows. The first thing I would do is look straight into the camera and say, "F YOU, Mrs. Gilman, look what I did!"
Mrs. Gilman was my 6th grade teacher and was utterly convinced that I would never amount to a thing, and told me so at every opportunity. She was probably in her 50s when I was in 6th grade, which means she's either extremely elderly or dead now, but I really, really, really have this intense desire to tell Mrs. Gilman off on national TV. ![]() ![]() Candy |

Hi Anony,
Sorry you never had any good/great teachers. I can't say I did either, lol. ![]() My thread was about my favorite teachers for the extra emotional attention/support they showed to me when I was down and out, not for their academic prowess. ![]() Guess that's a whole other thread waiting to be started. ![]() |
