You can't have your cake and eat it (too) is a popular saying in the U.S. I wonder why they word it that way. I want my cake and YES I want to eat it too right? Obviously it means you “can’t have it both ways” or “best of both worlds.” I wonder why we dont change it to read, “you can't eat your cake and have it (too)."

While I am in the middle of eating a slice of cake, I am both eating my cake and I still have cake left.

I truly wonder why vacuum cleaners must go WSHHHHHHHHHH. I hate the sound. It makes me depressed. Why can't it play a nice tune instead?

I love knowing things like that. As you now know, the year used to start later. In the past, spring was very important and the mark of spring was one of two big yearly celebrations. Oddly enough, after midwinter was given up, Christmas was celebrated in January. The 13th was the longest night of the year in that calendar. Which still shows in some traditions. In my country it is popular to wake and then have light celebrations day after. The reason? In the past, it was thought if you slept the darkest, longest night, the dark forces could take you... When I was a kid, we still celebrated the 12th, called Lussinatta, which is something they did several hundred years ago, but for some reason that tradition survived in my neck of the woods. It was basically like Halloween.

Some other oddity you might have thought about is why February is so short. Well, Julius Caesar didn't want his month July short, he demanded 31 days, so did Augustus Caesar who named August. They had to take the days from somewhere. February was not named after a person so no one to protest.

Thanks Connections. I agree and if I wasn't in the middle of a deep depression it would be easier.

Hi Jimi. Maybe that can be one of your money making ideas. Figure out a way to make a vacuum sound more harmonious. Good luck to you, that would be cool

Thanks -Jimi- I like the information you have contributed to this thread. One of my children is a leap day baby, Feb 29, 2000. That saves me a lot of money since I only have to buy him birthday presents once every four years. RIGHT! He does try to use his "age to say, Dad, I'm only three remember?" But next year when he turns 16, which will only be his fourth birthday, then I can remind him "You are only 4."

I wonder why I am so sensitive to people yelling.
I wonder why my parents find a need to yell.
I wonder if yelling is a cultural thing, like maybe certain languages are meant to sound like yelling and I interpret it as yelling, but they're not yelling.

I wonder, when people have 2 hands (an even number), why would a pack of gloves have 25 (an odd number).

South Carolina heating up with clash between the Black Panther Party and the KKK. I wonder what will come of that? Civil unrest often causes a lot of violence. We shall see.

I wonder what people in the 1910's were thinking about the world year 2000 especially when it comes to technology and science. I can see two guys a hundred years ago talking to each other " wake up man it's 1913 not 1890" lol. I see people now saying the same thing to each other in youtube comments. But I think 5 years makes much difference now compared to the same 5 years a century ago due to the rapid rate that technology has grown especially in the last 20 years.

I wonder If I quit the internet for one year to memorize a whole dictionary without listening to the language at all, will i be able to understand it? I don't know which language I want to learn, though. Japanese sounds beautiful. I also should work on my English.
Thanks for this!

There are many books and magazine articles written long ago exploring the idea of what the future would look like.

Yes, it is always interesting to see how people imagined the future. This short film was made in 1947 it predicted some of the inventions that we have today including smartphones.

My insurance told me my medical deductible was covered for the year and I get 24 physical therapy appointments per year so I set up my initial appointment for Tuesday. She told me it will cost me $225 first session since my deductible has not feel fully covered yet. I wonder if my deductible is really covered or not and I wonder why the initial session is $225 for one hour? That sounds expensive to me for one hour. They r not doctors or attorneys.

Ok, I am still considering the prison system, what changes need to be made in our legal system etc and have been doing readings on Confucius. They are very old writings and he was an interesting man. I am not going into a history lesson but I bring this up because I appreciate what he was teaching, living and where his intentions were. In Analects I read a lot about virtue. Tsze-chang asked Confucius about perfect virtue. Confucius said, "to be able to practice five things everywhere under heaven constitutes perfect virtue." When begged what they were he basically said, "Gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness." "The master said of Tsze-ch'an that he had four of the characteristics of a superior man - in his conduct of himself, he was humble; in serving his superior, he was respectful; in nourishing the people, he was kind; in ordering the people, he was just." It appears to me that he was focused on filial piety, particularly deep respect and loyalty to our parents. It has to do with duty, not selfishness, others focused because it is the right or just thing, BUT, duty is important it is duty to align oneself always with virtue, not to particular customs because he notes given changes that flow at a natural pace. He once said he’d rather not talk and just be such as the four seasons pursue their course and all things are continually being produced. There seems, to me, and I am no authority on Confucianism as it is very deep but he seems to put a lot into the underlying qualities such as honesty, respect and ultimately virtue. I wonder how or if we can institute the concept of duty and living for virtue and in spite of the lack of virtue imo criminals have already shown. Can we then become a person though fulfilling a responsible role in society in a selfless way? Maybe it can be likened to Les Miserable Jean Valjean where he changed who he was and became a productive member of society. There is a wealth of material in the readings and any of this is woefully sparse in covering the material as there is much more than these few things but I wonder how we can work toward virtue in society as a whole? He sees it as there is no me, it is about society, after we peel away all the social relationships, one is one’s roles in relationships. I guess its “Rules of propriety” expressed in age-old institutions and the roper ways of dong tings, are in contrast to the changeability of emotion and personal circumstance. I wonder how do we govern to that?

Saliva is very important in our mouths. For example it helps to
  • Keeps your mouth moist and comfortable
  • Helps you chew, taste, and swallow
  • Fights germs in your mouth and prevents bad breath
  • Has proteins and minerals that protect tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay and gum disease
  • Helps keep dentures securely in place
From WebMD

I wondered what is in saliva......
