But yeah I only know two other people I've met in person who play...and though I have built up a bit of a friends list on the game with people I only know from playing a match or two with usually there are only 1-3 other people online if that.

I do like chess, but don't really have anyone to play it with...and am probably a little rusty on what exactly all the rules are, though I'd pick them up again pretty quick.
I was jungle and tank - that was all that really mattered - just because I felt they were the most dynamic roles. I was more able to play outside of the "rules" and outsmart or outpace other players. Rammus, Cho, and Galio were some of my favorites. I never liked carry...

I think teams are important to enjoyment, though. Even if you're not very good, you can try some clever tactics that you couldn't with strangers and have a good laugh about it afterwards.

Who says you're not supposed to play? There's a big difference between not playing and prioritizing your finances.

I can relate, though. I remember how angry one of the other children on the playground got when I beat his Mewtwo when we were 10. I think he thought a girl a year younger than him would have been easy. When I had no one, games provided me with company. Pokemon was the great equalizer when it was new, and no matter how awkward or different you were if you were willing to play cards, Game Boy, or just draw and discuss you'd find a spot. Why should that be a bad thing or gender-specific whether you're 5 or 50? Many people still find that atmosphere in adulthood at conventions and in gaming groups.

In high school, I'd wanted to join the D&D group. The DM (male) had stared me down when I asked until I got uncomfortable enough to just leave. He recruited two other new players that day, both male. They wrecked his group, which was satisfying, and he followed me around the rest of high school trying to show me game manuals for some reason. I've been thinking of starting my own, though.

In tech, things are better. I think it's just because it's a professional setting, not a retreat for the chronically shy and socially awkward (although people playing video games aren't necessarily those things). Your instructors joke with and praise you the same as anyone else, whether you finish before the boys or among them. They don't think any less of you if you haven't handled much hardware as long as you're willing to learn.

IT has become a much more social field, and as much as I hate that because I'm not the most charismatic person around I suppose it has its benefits... if you stare down women you meet, they're not much going to want to hire you, work with you, or visit your location. Bugger off if you can't even be polite on the most basic of levels.

I'm sure there are people who think it's not "for women" and that I should be going for psychology, nursing, or culinary arts, but I'm cleverer than the boys in some ways and am happy to do customer service on top of that. I absolutely have the integrity to work with security and finances, if not the know-how at this time - and that's something you can't just go to any old guy for. It would only be their loss if I left, and it's everyone's loss if they force friendly people out of a hobby that makes them happy and into something that their heart isn't in.

I am over 50 and play video games even rpg. My brother got me addicted. I thought I was the only woman who played rpg but I found out that a lot of people did. There is a lady in my building who plays and she is about 60. You are never too old.

I really like RPGs like Final Fantasy, Rune Factory, Persona, Etrian Odyssey, Bravely Default, the Denpa Men games, Pokemon and a few others. I also like Harvest Moon games and Zelda games. I spend a lot of time playing video games. Video games and tv are like my only two relaxing activities. I just work the rest of the time.

I play a bunch of old school games on my computer ever so often since my bf loaded em onto my PC- like classic mario bros, mega man and zelda, subzero a bunch of other NES games I cant think of right now- like Brai lord and the like - I am a fan of GTA, though haven't played the latest- I play a lot of random free PC games online depending on what mood I'm in . . ..

Recently been playing Deus Ex Human Revolution, DC. Absolutely loving it - the gameplay, the art style, the story, ... it's awesome. Bugs are a bit annoying, but for the most part, I have them under control. Mainly just some graphical glitches and performance issues. The DC version is somewhat infamous for issues, but I'm so far (20 odd hours in) finding it perfectly playable and, for the most part, a smooth 60fps provided I stay out of the seemingly-unstable DX11 mode.

ha! that would satisfy me too

men think that been female makes you crap at games or at least you should be and if a girl is better than them they make a big deal about/make exuses for it or whatever. i never understand why gender matters at all

I can't be bothered playing games anymore, maybe it's the depression. Sometimes i catch myself forcing myself to play a game, which sort of defeats the purpose of having games to begin with.

I like playing old games on emulators sometimes. Like balloon fight or adventure island.

I'm playing LoZ: a Link to the Past.

Such good memories-

Was massively into Runescape for about 8 years and at one point was (much to that bemusement of my wife who told all of her friends what a nerd I was) #1 on one of the many high score tables (in this case a mini-game).

Was predominantly a clan player which involved competitive player killings other like sized clans in the wild area.

Lost interest with the onset of RS3 as the clanning world essentially died out.

These days I play mostly non interactive pc games like Skyrim or Fallout

Meh, I've never been one to stick to any specific definition of what females are supposed to do....kinda arbitrary to me at least. I understand the budgeting issues though, I only have a PS3 and ordered it for like 165 dollars on ebay...that is also where I have bought my games because I cannot really afford to go out and buy a bunch of games or upgrade to a new console every time they come out.

But I am also pretty casual about it, anyways I just feel it someone really enjoys something it doesn't make sense to give it up entirely, but video games can get to be an expensive activity.

That happens to me with all the activities I enjoy from time to time...it really does suck when it does, so I can relate to that feeling. I have an odd sort of depression kind of comes in cycles...not in the bi-polar sense, like I never really experience mania but it also fluctuates like sometimes I feel alright sometimes I am so depressed i just want it all to end.

The worst part is when I cant enjoy things, makes it hard to distract myself from feeling like crap. But it never seems to last forever, until it hits again...perhaps you will find enjoyment again eventually or another activity that you get some enjoyment out of.

My husband is the gamer in the family - ask him anything remotely related to online/PC/video games and he'll answer you in a jiffy, giving you extra details over and above the question asked! Most of the evenings you'll find him immersed in his PlayStation 4, his favorites being - Bloodborne, Hand of Fate, Minutes and Evolve, amongst others. I'm still a novice when it comes to gaming, preferring easy-going games like these pet games which I play with my son, candy crush, solitaire and this new fascinating game called Plants versus Zombies.
