Have any plans? Cooking, trips, traditions? (if you celebrate)

Later this week we'll pick up some Rum for eggnog and some Baileys to make Irish coffees.

Sometime next week I will be making a Chess Pie. They are a wonderful treat. If anyone's interested here's the recipe I use: Chess Pie Recipe - Allrecipes.com

on Christmas Eve we will have cocoa and cookies and watch Christmas movies and/or the Yule Log. Later my mom usually watches Midnight Mass on tv.

The following morning we'll exchange gifts of course

We're having a ham on Christmas day with spinach and baked mac and cheese.

What are you doing?

I'm just dieting and going to open presents maybe. I get to eat ham though since it follows low carbs (nod). Still need a few presents

I'll be slowing down and trying to relax, but mainly making sure to enjoy the company of my best half

I might be doing some cooking, nothing fancy or complicated, just some easy roast or something that doesn't require much work or lengthy preparation times.

We celebrate on four days: the Solstice, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Orthodox Christmas Eve (Jan 6th). That about covers all the traditions held by members of the family.

I'll work until 6 pm on Christmas Eve then I will spend lots of time on PC with my friends! Christmas day takes us to the in-laws for soup and sandwiches.

Happy holidays to all!

Don't really know what I'm doing. My roommate has announced she's boycotting Christmas and wants nothing to do with it. And I have no family here. I'll probably bake a batch of shortbread and maybe roast a cornish hen with wild rice stuffing.

Hope you all have a good Christmas.

On Christmas Eve I will be relaxing at home. I was invited somewhere but can't go due to being on a new med and needing to sleep all day practically. I'm supposed to go to my sister n law's brother's on Christmas Day but am not sure about that as he has not called me about it. I used to go to my brother's on Christmas but he is going out of town. It will be different this year that's for sure. Not sure what the heck I am doing. lol

I already put up the Christmas tree and decorated the bushes out front with lights. I need to get out the stockings and stuff, though -- I've been procrastinating.

I think I'll try a family recipe for Candy Cane Cookies this year -- I loved them as a kid but haven't had them in recent years. I've learned to cook and bake fairly well in the past two years though, so what the heck. I think my mom requested a Red Velvet Cake too, so I'll probably bake that as well. My dad will cook a ham and probably yams on Christmas day, and we'll spend it quietly at home as a family as always, with presents of course. And I'll do my best to deny my loneliness and put on a happy face for my parents.

Oh! And we'll probably go on our traditional Christmas Eve Shopping Spree again. We head out at like 4 PM on Christmas Eve and hit a bunch of department stores, buying whatever we want (within reason of course). That's always kind of fun, though now that my mom has bad arthritis in both knees and needs those electric carts it can be a bit hard.

I have no plans for the holidays. My good friend invited me to her home but it's an hour drive. Plus my financial situation does not allow for gift giving this year. I just don't have any holiday spirit. I feel like I'm in a strange land observing something I know nothing about. I'll figure out some way to honor the day but right now I don't know that will be.

Christmas day will start with fresh baked croissants. Tortiere (meat pie) for lunch and then a late evening dinner of prime rib.

Not a lot of people in the west realize this but a great many people in the world celebrate Christmas eve on Jan 6th - the Orthodox calendar is about two weeks behind. My ex-husband is Ukrainian, and hence so then are my children. I have always made a point of celebrating the 'second' Christmas to maintain their heritage.

I'm visiting my parents. I'm excited as this is the first year my husband and I will be together both Christmas eve and Christmas day. I have worked the last few.

My girls are going with their dad on the 24th to Memphis, TN. His brother is getting hitched and so my daughters and I will celebrate all week. This Friday we are going out to eat a special dinner with some gift certs I rec'd. Next Wednesday morning my daughter will do some favorite cinnamon rolls in the morning with coffee. And we'll open our gifts to each other then. It'll be low key just us three. On Christmas, I'll go and have a good feast with my sister and her family. Yummy stuff...

Well, our family starts by celebrating Mom and Dad's Anniversary on the 23rd, and going out to eat at a local restaurant, usually the one down the street as it's closest and serves the best beers.

Christmas Eve is spent going to Dad's Lutheran church for Christmas Eve Service (the best part is that it's short and we light candles while singing Silent Night with the lights out), then we come home and make a ton of snack foods like pizza rolls and Poppers and have fun eating them along with eggnog spiked with banana flavored rum. We used to play card games like Hearts, but Mom really isn't a fan of the game so we no longer do that. After word, Dad makes cinnamon rolls with frozen bread dough as a base and sets them to rise over night and we all head off to bed. We (the kids) used to open our "ONE" present, but since we've grown older, and Mom just hands me a pair of pajamas every year it seems, that tradition has gone by the wayside.

On Christmas Morning, the rolls are baked and we have them for breakfast, which everyone must have a bite as per "Da Rules" (made and enforced by Dad) and we all eventually gather 'round the tree to open presents by 10 or 11 AM. Presents are opened one at a time and you go around the room, person to person.

Once presents are opened, Christmas Dinner is cooked and we feast on that with leftovers later that night and for days afterword. The following day, known as Boxing Day in Canada and the UK, may revolve around returning the presents that didn't work out, or spending gift cards received the day before.

That's the Christmas Holidays around my house.

I have heard of people celebrating on Jan 6th, feast of the Epiphany. I am aware that in some countries this is when people exchange presents. I like the idea of keeping old traditions and customs alive. Merry Christmas

I look forward to Christmas. My son will come home to visit. We will spend happy family time together.

Last night my husband and I did something fun and "different" for Christmas. In my hometown we have an old historic civil war fort. We went there last night and they had people re-enacting a Christmas party the Confederate soldiers would have had in 1861. Everything was set up so authentic, from the period costumes, to the decorations. There was no electric lighting, just kerosene lanterns and candles. They played music, served cider and egg nog and sang Christmas Carols. Then they shot off muskets and a cannon. It was interesting and lots of fun.

Not making judgments about the American Civil War. It was a sad tragedy. But I do love to study history.

It will be just my son and I celebrating Xmas together. I am estranged from my family (with good reason) and his father isn't allowed contact, so it's just us. Today we are going to a spiritualist church service, because I want to give thanks for what we have. There are many with far less. We will be driving around a lot on the next few nights looking at Christmas lights and the Xmas tree in the city. We will also do some Christmas food shopping and baking on Xmas eve. I have thought about going the Carols at another church on Christmas Eve but I'm not sure yet (social anxiety). Christmas Day will be my son getting up at some unearthly hour to race to the tree and open his presents. Then I will to a turkey roast for lunch, as well as Christmas ham and plum pudding with custard. The rest of the day will be spent putting toys together and hanging out with my son.

It will be my parents and I this year, as they are unwell to travel and my brother's family cannot get off to come here. It makes me sad all the way around and I also miss them. I have to work a double Christmas eve and I will miss going to church for the candlelight service, it is my favorite. However, I will have off Christmas Day and that weekend which will be really nice, first time in awhile that I have any time off let alone Christmas. I decorated but felt like I was going through the motions. Usually I am filled with the holiday spirit but my heart has been heavy.

On the way home from work the other night, I saw a family and perhaps some neighbors of theirs were out and this was past 11:00; all together, bundled up, and they were putting out decorations. A gentleman was stringing lights along a roof line, some were positioning ornaments or figures, others had drinks in some of their hands that were gathered around, some women were chatting, and some kids playing. It was a touching, lovely moment that warmed my heart.

Sending everyone the best of wishes this holiday season. Stay safe and be well.

Our day starts on Christmas Eve. Since my daughter has to work until 12:15AM we might get a reprieve on waking up early--or not. We'll have cinnamon rolls and open presents, then split off to go to our separate church services in the evening.

Christmas day is usually quiet until dinnertime, which is ham, stuffing, and corn for this year. It will be my husband and I as my daughter will be at her boyfriend's house with his family.

Not much of a to-do but it works for us.
