The German Expressionist movement has always fascinated me. Franz Marc's story is tragic. Life is so filled with irony.

Here's a photograph of Paul Gauguin (French Expressionist, not German):

And Vincent Van Gogh. He has such gentle, spiritual eyes, I think. As if he is looking a century into the future.

Art installations are probably the most fascinating kind of art, to me. I have done some in my own life. One installation I created has expanded and become quite well-known in the city the installation is in. I wish I had a current photo of it.

What I loathe is people who claim to be artists of every genre but do not have one artistic gene.

You seem to be an artistic consumer (as most of us are) and that’s a very good thing.

Hi Amicus. Welcome (unless I missed you previously).

I think when people say they're "artists" and don't practice or consume it, they tend to feel a spiritual or intuitive connection to the arts that they do not explore. Myself, rather than angry at them, I'm sorry for them--that they're not exploring what intrigues them or giving it a go at a creating themselves. I'm sure there's a lot of undiscovered talent because some people are just to busy or negative about themselves or whatnot.

But there's probably another kind of person you're referring to, the one that boasts a lot and is very haughty without anything backing it up. As for myself, that doesn't make me too angry, unless it's extreme, but I can see where you're coming from.

Art appreciation thread

How do you guys feel about mixed media?

And I just remembered: i think an important discussion to have is giving credit to artists when it's due. I'm not like nazi about people who image-drop without a name, but some artists I know are sensitive about that. In generally I tend to lean in favor of crediting artists when possible. Increasing their "sphere", if you know what I mean. if you like them, why not!

HC, I love spaces, like physical places you can walk through or sit in, that feel artistic. That certainly looks like a lovely garden. Do you happen to know who designed it? (I know that may actually be a really difficult question... Not sure how readily available that info would be.)

Would that imply that art can be categorized as an economy, or an economic good? That's kind of funny, that something to spiritual and moving can still have economic ties.

I mean obviously, people pay money for art and make money off of it. But the two worlds just seem so disconnected that it's interesting to me that that connection would be brought up in the open.

I did this in Watercolor. I have an art degree, and quite an art resume, but actually making paintings is very new to me. Must say, I'm having a blast with it. Art appreciation thread

I got the picture on Pinterest. It came from this website: https://beauandarrowevents.wordpress...secret-garden/

Which identifies is as wisteria tunnel at the Kawachi Fuji Gardens, located in Kitakyushu, Japan.

It is astonishing, isn't it? I will post more background on the pics I post!! Thank you for the reminder!! xoxox
