I love to exercise. In fact, i do it somewhat obsessively. However, lately I've been in a rut and my eating has gotten out of control along with my exercise habits. I have not been to the gym in (honestly Months) a long time. I am putting on weight and looking soft around the edges. Does anyone know how to get out of this RUT!!!

Change up your routine. Try to avoid the bad habits at their usual times moving them about from time to time during the day. But stick to routine with the good habits.
This is how you might quit a smoking habit. You take a different route home than usual, have a cigarette at a time that usually would disgust you, etc. But make sure that you stick to a routine for things like eating and sleeping - and in this case exercise. Slowly introduce it instead of all at once. If you find you don't have it in you to do so at your assigned time, don't do something else instead. |

Do a small amount of reps to start. As you start to make this a habit increase reps. The idea is to start with a very small amount of time and be successful with that. The more success you have the more you will want to keep moving.

Are there any friends you can exercise with? Is there anything fun you can do or a goal to work up to that encourages you to stick with it - like a hiking trip or half marathon or something you want to work up to?

My exercise is limited to riding horses, working around my farm, lifting heavy bags if dog food & bales of hay. Cutting back trees, mowing fields & in the winter when therevare no ticks I love hiking in my woods with my dogs. My woods isa good place to hike into for doing target practice. For me my life is exercise. Maybe some day I will get my exercise equip from Calif. I do the rebound small trampoline. It is supposed to he good for the heart. Living in the country I don't drive to town any more thsn I need to & exercise/gym isn't on my "need to" list

I used to exercise by playing racquetball with the guys I worked with every day at lunch. Luckily my manager played racquetball & never cared if we took the long lunch to play. I often wonder it that has kept me still being athletic even at my age (65) in spite of all the sports injuries I have had....though I don't play racquetball any more or do downhill skiing....there are so many other activities I do now & the little town I live in doesn't have racquetball courts & downhill skiing is way too expensive on my fixed income.

I find it inspirational to read fitness fb groups. So even if I'm not in the right mood, others can inspire me. Sometimes just forcing myself works. But often I don't do anything and allow myself to chill lol but I guess it's about habit.

Find an accountability partner that will gently remind you to go after you come up w/ a routine.

I was the same, I was all or nothing, at the gym every day or not at all. It affected my eating too.
I have managed to find the balance and that for me is doing a HIIT workout every day. I come home from work, and the first thing I do it a 10-20 minuter HIIT workout on YouTube, then relax and make dinner etc. I feel great and the routine keeps me from obsessing too much over it. FF |

But right now I'm not able to do that stuff as I'm overweight (ôk let's be honest according to bmi I'm obese) so I really can't do any jumping and stuff. I've always hated that kind of exercise. But I'm thinking that if I lose about 10kg doing traditional exercise I'll try HIIT as well. But right now I'm not sure my heart would appreciate the struggle ![]()
