My yellow Maine Coon cat was in with me last night. He usually just settles down and sleeps on my bed, but he kept waking me up last night in the early a.m. I kept throwing him off the bed as I was dead asleep! I have no...I mean NO sense of smell, but there was a big wet spot on my clothes in the bathroom where I had left them while getting ready for bed. NO wet washcloth was nearby, so I can only assume he had peed on the nice clothes...a nice outfit I had worn to school for Christmas!
I'm really handicapped with no sense of smell...never been able to smell..ever! So I sprayed the clothing and floor with "Zero Odor Pet," which is supposed to neurtralize pet urine. I will wash this outfit, but I'm fearful of wearing it and smelling like cat pee!
And, by the way, the cat could get to his litter....I think he was just mad at me!
I have three cats...two Maine Coons and one old stray. This same yellow coonie peed on my bed three times when I moved to this new location, and I had to throw the mattress away!

Try covering your outfit in cat litter, but NOT the clumping kind. Leave it in a plastic box, or in a plastic bag, for a few days to a week. I found this works very well in eliminating strong animal pee odors. Won't take care of any stains, though.

And if you can't smell anything, have someone who can check to see if it is still there.

Your cats maybe smelling other animals that were in the house prior to you moving in. Try using the kitty litter trick on your rugs and anywhere in your house your cats are concentrating on. Cat pee can and does penetrate through to the subflooring, especially if a pet continually used the same spot without it being treated. Leave it for a few days and vacuum.

Then again, it could be that your cat is just really "pissed" at you! Is it female? Female cats seem to hold grudges...mine does.

i think id be more concern on why he did it in the first place. is he neutered? Im assuming so if you have 3 cats (or else 2 of them would be dead by now lol). I had a cat that did this to me once. He had separation anxiety. In my old apartment it was me and 2 roommates and we all 3 had cats. Then when I moved out it was just me and him. He went crazy from not having playmates all day long so I gave him to my mom who has another cat so that he wouldn't be bored all day. Are the other cats nice to him and loving or are they mean? Are they around the same age?

Just be happy it wasnt the carpet lol cant put carpet in a washer! If he isn't neutered then he is probably spraying. But if he is neutered then I would look at the setup he is in when you go to bed. He might want out of the bedroom, into the room etc... Or try getting one of those dangly toys with feathers on the end or a laser light and have him chase the hell out of it. Really wear him out right before you go to bed and maybe he wont be so bored when youre asleep.

Yes, I'm with salukigirl and would take the cat to a vet to be checked out. My cat kept bugging me all night (and finally peed on us) and had a serious illness that needed daily pills.

They can't talk, so often it's the only way they can get your attention. I'd take the item of clothes into the vets after you've cleaned it and ask the receptionist/tech if they can smell it for you :-) and suggest ways to clean it better? Surely they know about animal pee :-)

Thanks so much, Altered, Saluki, and Perna!!!
Yes, all three of my cats are neutered males. I think "Yellow Coonie" was just pissed at me, but I have also been told that neutered male cats can have urinary tract problems, so maybe a trip to the vet is in order.
Also...I have a best friend who comes and "smells" for me weekly after her meditation class on Sunday. I'll have her smell the clothes!

what kind of food do you feed them? depending on what kind and the main ingredients, build up can form in the kidneys causing urinary tract infections. Was it a lot of urine or did it have any kind of tint to it? Has he been going more often but urinating less in the litter box? cats don't really have the mental ability to reason so they don't necessarily hold a "grudge" towards you. At least not to the point where he can think "she did this to me earlier, so im going to pee on her clothes". y'know what I mean? Theyre much more simple minded than that lol. Its basically, like perna said, trying to get your attention for something or he's sick. im going to say that since it was on your clothes that had not been washed yet, it was to get your attention. He chose something that smells like you knowing you would find it. If it were something like a UTI it would be constant urinating on the carpet, leaking when he runs or you pick him up etc... But always go to the vet to make sure.

This same "Yellow Coonie" has peed in my bathtub several times at the drain....I don't know. He seems healthy and happy, but I don't want a sick cat, so maybe a trip to the vet, as I said before.

ok thats good. cats dont like to tell you when theyre sick. evolutionarily speaking thats a death warrant if you show youre sick in the wild so they just dont show you ever. the biggest things to watch for are urinating extra, eating extra but not gaining weight, or any change in appetite thats noticeable. good luck with your kitty Cat peed on my clothes last night!

my cat did the same thing to me a couple of weeks ago. I washed the clothes as soon as I smelled it and no residual odor was left on them.

There is also a product out there called OUT I think. My daughter was making a quilt for my mother, the NOSE, and when it was finished, hiding in the closet waiting for christmas, our cat peed on it. When normal washing did not take it out, the OUT did. Can find it at Pet Co or Pet smart

Yeah, that OUT product sounds good. That kinda reminds me of one of our cats, we picked her up off the streets when she was little because she had been abandoned, and whenever she gets really upset over something she pee's on something. The first few times we blamed it on her kitten because the kitten wasn't potty trained yet, but we then found out it was her when she deliberately peed on mom's bed...right in front of her. Thankfuly there have been no recent incidents Cat peed on my clothes last night!

Some of my realatives have maine coon cats, I love them!

we breed cats & get "sprayed" quite often

using a deodorizing spray especially designed for organic stains & then washing seems to work fine. did you know that spray works on floors & beds & carpets too ?

could he be having a territorial problem with one of your other cats ? many cats like to pee in the bath, but peeing on the bed may be territorial.

also worth having a serum creatinine blood test done at the vet, if it is raised a special diet could keep him healthy for years, if you are lucky. How old is he ? Is he drinking more water than usual ? If he isn't you can probably rule out kidney failure anyway.

we know several Maine Coon breeders, if you think it might be breed related.
