I woke up at 4:15. Did I actually wake up at 5:15 if we didn't set the clocks? I always get so confused. I just know I'm tired

Should they get rid of DLS? I've heard reasons of why its not as easy as it seems.

Yes. Think “spring forward” and “fall back” when dst begins and ends.

It’s been proven harmful yet we keep doing it. It exacerbates existing sleep problems. Arizona and Hawaii don’t do this.

I already banged my head in the sleep thread and will here too. We need to stop this pointless ritual. I’m not even saving energy since I turn on all the lights in the morning now.

No, you actually woke at 3:15 (Standard time) if you set your clock ahead. I mean 4:15 is “really” 3:15. If we left the clocks alone it’s 4:15. Everything is an hour ahead now. Eating early, to bed early so you may not be hungry or sleepy yet.

And no it’s not easy for many people yet some think it’s no big deal. My favorite checker at the grocery store says it doesn’t affect her or she doesn’t notice. Lucky!

MD said “if [he] didn’t set the clocks.” So if he woke up and his clock that was not adjusted said 4, an adjusted to daylight savings clock would say 5.

I agree it’s stupid. Luckily right now the only “scheduled” thing I have is taking meds at 9am every day and I usually wake up around 5 so now getting up at 6 is actually good for me because I have less time to be waiting, and I can slowly adjust myself to the new time, but with a more rigorous schedule I’d be thrown way out of whack.

I used to hate this week when i was working. I never slept well, and losing the hour made it soooo much worse. Whereas when the time switches back in the fall, i would celebrate for a month or more like its my effin birthday.

I was always either between seasonal jobs so haven’t “worked” during time switches, but I know I was a lot happier in the fall than this time of year during school!

There have been debates about this in the UK and the EU. I dislike the process, both in Spring and Autumn - it’s just a pain.

If you didn’t adjust the clocks 4:15 would be 4:15, the “natural” time. Adjusted yes Muddy is right that it would show 5:15. But I’m just saying we’re all getting up earlier than the clock says now. That’s why we’re all so tired and the day goes by faster.

Okay Mountain 🏔️ you’re up too early either way. 4:15 is 3:15, 5:15 is 4:15.

Don’t you change them in a different month or day from us? My world clock shows we’re now just 7 hours behind instead of 8.

My body seems to sigh in relief when it’s time to go back. It takes me less time to adjust to that, 2-3 days instead of a week. I’m glad I don’t have to be somewhere but I still don’t like feeling this way. When I was a teenager and in my 20’s to 50’s it didn’t bother me much or hardly. Now I’m too old for this.

It has strong feelings on both sides and has been controversial for decades. And it depends on where one lives and what schedule one has, whether they wake up or commute in the dark. Or go to school. Or an early bird/nightowl. We’re all different but I’m for Standard Time, what I call nature’s time. Thousands of years of evolution has humans waking up with the sun and sleeping when it’s dark.

Some countries don’t change the clocks.

We go forward to British Summer Time on the 30th March and back to GMT on the 26th October this year.

It feels a bit archaic really. I think it will take some momentum to bring about a change though. Maybe one day.

I have a slightly broken world clock that worked correctly for a while, but now doesnt show my eastern zone. So yeah right now it is 2 hours behind. Its anybodys guess when it will move to one hour!

I’d never thought of it like that before, but yes, it is funny. It would be soooooo much easier not to do it.

There will always be one clock I forget to change, no matter how methodical I think I’m being. I should make a checklist, really. I like checklists. I think I have a checklist of checklists somewhere.

I’ve been wearing this Garmin fitness tracker/watch which connects to my phone and automatically does the time changes, so really I just have my normal watch to change (which I really only wear if I’m in the hospital and don’t want to feel bad about not walking as much and never getting elevation in haha). My car clock too, but that’s super easy to change. I did it at a stop sign when I looked at it and thought “I’m definitely not an hour early to my appointment.”

At my moms she has oven clocks, microwave clocks, alarm clocks, etc and I’m not going to be surprised if I see all of them off still.

It always throws me a little, I work early on Sundays so it matters if I screw it up somehow! Some of my devices update instantly and some don’t, it’s remembering which is which and adjusting my alarms accordingly.

I hate the time change. Though it is weird if you are driving through Arizona when DST is in effect because while Arizona does not observe DST the Navajo Indian does observe it, so you will drive in and out of DST at least driving the I-10 across Arizona which we do when we go to visit my in-laws in Los Angelos.

My clocks are set to DST year round, except for those in the computer, cell phones and cordless phones. And I get up and go to bed at the same time (according to this clock) year round. And yet I still feel depressed about losing an hour, because eventually I attend a gathering that, to me, is an hour earlier.

Just want to clarify that I'm not an advocate of staying on DST; I do think we should stay on Standard Time. Yet the folks in the US Senate passed a bipartisan vote to switch to DST permanently. They finally agree on one thing, and they get it wrong!

I think it’s dumb and I wish we stopped doing it but I try not to think about it. I get up very early and commute very far and don’t particularly sleep well at night. So for me it’s business as usual regardless if it’s an hour ahead or backwards. Tired and not enough sleep no matter what

I love daylight saving time. My state voted to keep it permanently but it takes an act of congress to fix the time permanently. Congress! They’ll never agree. I think there’s something like 20 states that want this. But can’t because congress won’t vote on it. I don’t see it as losing an hour I see it as gaining an hour of us full day light. I hate standard time. Too dark and depressing

LOL at myself. I didn't realize we were supposed to change clocks Saturday night. My relationship with time changed after I retired. Anyhow, saw this thread and thought huh??? Still have one clock I haven't changed because it is a pain to get down off the wall and put back.

I hate the whole debate about losing/gaining an hour. The sun is above the horizon the same number of hours regardless what the clocks say.

Like I said, my relationship with time changed when I retired. I really don't give a rat's behind what time it is unless I need to interact with the outside world. Maybe this happens to everyone when they retire. Maybe it's because my jobs were based on time. When I was working I really hated both time changes. Took my body forever to adapt to the change.

I set most of my clocks on Saturday, most I don’t need to refer to. I have so many that it saves time when I set certain ones before bed. Years ago I did them all at once just before bed. But it takes almost 25 minutes.

Here everyone save maybe usually elementary school kids or if you’re the last middle schooler to be picked up in the morning get to take the bus in the dark until the very end of the school year. The winter darkness knows no bounds! Daylight savings cannot—WILL NOT—save us!

They’ve started and stopped this in the past, I discovered. I can’t recall the state but it was briefly brought back for just months, then abandoned because parents complained about the darkness in the morning for kids off to school. It’s hard to commute in the dark too because our brains aren’t made that way.

I hate DST. The days get longer NATURALLY so there’s no need to mess with the clocks 🕰️!!!!! I think it’s about money. They want people to go out in the brighter evenings and spend money.

Also it depends on where in the country one is. I’d like consistency and for the whole country on the same page. As much as I hate Daylight Saving time, it would be much easier staying on it than switching back-and-forth. We spend most of the year on it anyway. But I’m not saying I prefer Daylight Saving time. I just don’t like change especially back-and-forth. I have enough problems with sleep and change in general.

Yeah, I really don't care which we would end up on, for me either way winter is pretty dark and summer is too bright (I do NOT like it being bright out past 10pm! And I wouldn't care if it's bright until "only" past 9pm because that's still too late for me!). The numbers assigned to the sun's position don't mean crap to me until they change the numbers!
