In the 22 years I have lived in many apartments & they have always banned any pets. We have MPD/DID...and our youngest, "Jessie - age 9" adopted a stray mouse that wandered into our apartment, named him "Ozzie"...well, Ozzie met "Harriet" and thus, we had 3 babies running around (we don't believe in cages) One was really "odd"...he fell in the dishwater when we were doing dishes & had to be saved; then he crawled into my hubby's open bag of pretzels & couldn't get out...he was obviously the "runt".......well, he got real sick & crawled into an "opening" in our apt, so we could find him...we nursed him back to exceptable health....he was still being "odd" he came right out in the open and run over our feet.........Jessie named him "Jacob" (as a rule: she names everything! Plants, guitars she names them!) Well, Jacob got really sick again, we tried to nurse him back again, put him in a shoebox, made sure he had food & water.
Yesterday, Jessie went to go feed him soy milk with an eye dropper, but he was stiff as a board...Jessie tried to give him CPR --- obviously didn;t work. We observed at that point the reason he was having a hard time getting around was b/c one leg & one arm was shorter than the other. Jessie wrapped him in a sock & we all started to cry, including Hubby. Ozzie was the first "pet" that Jessie has had since "WE" were 14...................we raised many homeless & injured animals growing up; kids came to our house b/c they considered our house "The neighborhood Zoo" But, anyhow Re: A "different" kind of loss.... Re: A "different" kind of loss.... Re: A "different" kind of loss....

The death of Jacob is hurting us all deeply; I haven't felt this ache in my heart since my 2nd brother died from complications of a suicide attempt. Others say we're crazy b/c field mice are rodents...despicable. Re: A "different" kind of loss.... Re: A "different" kind of loss.... Re: A "different" kind of loss.... Re: A "different" kind of loss.... Re: A "different" kind of loss....

WE are taking the day off from the world....Jacob will be sorely missed & Jessie has gone completely quiet & in her closet (where she hasn't been since my brother)

If anyone w/ a heart.....please take a moment of silence to remember Jacob............my heart is broken Re: A "different" kind of loss.... Re: A "different" kind of loss.... DAYZEE9

Oh... poor little mousey. Re: A "different" kind of loss.... I'm sure Jessie took really good care of him and Ozzie really appreciated it since he was never well.

Hugs to you and Jessie. Re: A "different" kind of loss....

dayzee & Jessie & family,

I am sorry to hear about your loss. It is hard to handle no matter how small the creature...they all count in my book. I remember as a child, I had a boyfriend in 6th grade that gave me a horneytoad he found in the field. I loved him & tried to take the best care that I could. He died soon after but I remember how that death affected me. Couldn't stop crying for days. I have since had many pets & everyone of them that has died caused me to feel more sorrow than most people understand.

I am so glad to see that you & your family truely care about all creatures. It is a wonderful feeling to care about them so much, even though we feel a great sorrow when we lose them. Every creature deserves that kind of attention & there is no creature that is despicable.

A moment of silence for Jacob in respect of his life,

Debbie

Thank you for responding....now I don't feel bad for STILL feeling bad about "Jacob" Denny wrapped him in suede leather & put him a "frost-free" (Double Guard) & put him in the freezer until we can take him to one of the many arboretums around town & have a "proper funeral"

I still feel so sad Re: A "different" kind of loss....but his brothers are starting to get bigger & faster!! WOW! Re: A "different" kind of loss....

Jessie thanks you, too..........w/ Re: A "different" kind of loss....DAYZEE
