Cancer affects everyone, not just the one afflicted with it's horrible effects. It affects friends, family, and even acquaintances with such horrible grief and suffering.

My dad's friend Ray has been slowly dying of cancer. This morning around 3:30 am he died. Dad got the call around 6:30 this morning. Although I didn't know Ray very well, he was a good man. Ray had a family: a wife and a 3 year-old daughter named Austin. Ray's wife isn't doing well at all.

Today I had to pay rent and get my meds. Well, I got a sympathy card while I was at the pharmacy. Then we went to pick up a meat & cheese tray. I had to go half on the flower arrangement that we got...not because someone said I had to but because my heart said I had to. I would've gotten the whole damn supply of flowers and plants for the funeral...if my finances allowed it.

I barely knew Ray but here I am nearly in tears. I'm trying to hold them back but I'm not being too successful at it. Is it because my mom died from cancer or the fact that my dad is suffering so much right now...or the fact that there is a little girl hurting? Knowing me it could be all three.

I just feel like there's a huge dark cloud over me right now. I had so many things planned to do today but with this death I have no more motivation to do any of them.

Cancer seems to take away the good people and none of the bad. It may be a form of natural selection in the most cruelest sense but why does it always take to good ones and never the bad???

I think cancer often strikes people who care about others and don't easily or often lash out in anger or fail to care about hurting others.....and people who tend to bottle up their feelings Cancer so yes I sort of agree. I am sorry Lexi Cancer

I despise cancer, I despise everything about it and how it takes so many from us. I've lost a loved one from cancer a little over a year ago and it does hurt.

We also discovered my uncle on my moms side (moms uncle) has three months to live, they found massive spread of cancer in his lungs. I don't know the guy well, last time I saw him I was a little girl and he pretended to pull my nose off...lol. But still I feel sad for him, and I think my recent loss also effects my sadness.

So sorry you feel this way, I understand.

even if you didn't know this great man so well you still knew of him, heard of him and so on. I am very sorry for your loss. Cancer does seem to take the good not the bad. But the good are trying to fight.. and we trying our best to find a cure for cancer. think about 10 years ago the word cancer was awful.. an instant death sentence.. now it means a shortened life.. in most cases.. so this is a great loss and I am so sorry.

a small suggestion get active in some cancer fund rasiers..-- a really fun, and sad at times one that might be taking place near you is Relay for Life. look into those things.. get the news out, help fight for the cure--

again sorry this is happening to you

My mummy died of it ... then my flatmate (he was 31 and didn't get his skin cancer attended to in time).

I might believe in god if things like this did not happen. But my proof of non-existance lies in people who are very special and have a lot to give dying.

grrrrrrr.

I am sorry to hear your news Lex.
