I am a horrible person. I'm a horrible person (pet loss) -- may trig

I love animals...all animals...even creepy ones, no matter what I say to the contrary. Cats are my current favorite. As some people here know, I live on a farm...complete with barn cats. We feed the cats sometimes, especially in the winter when it is difficult for them to hunt.

The cats know our cars...when they see us driving up the road they immediately start running toward the house or the barn. Whichever direction we are headed. While we can't pet them or cuddle them, we still love them.

So Friday hubby and I got home in the cold and the cats were gathered around the car as we got out. We shut the door, hurried inside, and fed them out front.

This afternoon, hubby went to get the car and found a barn cat on the front seat. Somehow, she had gotten trapped in the car. We think she jumped in as we got out. It was as cold as 4 degrees this weekend. Needless to say, she did not make it.

I am so upset. I'm a horrible person (pet loss) -- may trig I feel so guilty. I am responsible for the death of an animal. I'm so beside myself, I dread to think what will happen when my indoor kitties (my babies) eventually pass. I keep thinking about the horrible things she went through. I am trying to do things to keep my mind off of it. But everytime I think about it, I want to be sick.

I'm a horrible person. I'm a horrible person (pet loss) -- may trig

If you were a bad person you would not be feeling this pain, think of the kitty as a guardian angel cat now

Thanks, Angela.

She was my responsibility...well, I made all of them my responsibility. I feel like I've let them all down. It's enough they get killed crossing the road...but what a stupid thing to happen.

Thanks for caring.

Oh my dearest soul, that cat knew love and feeding time and what happened was an accident. We as a culture are so irresponsible and you feed and love who you can. Please no guilt my friend because that animal had someone and death is just a part of life. i am so sorry for the horror. Please know that I understand and am with you and that you did nothing wrong. You are not horrible, you are a good soul.

if it hadn't been for you, that kitty wouldn't have known good food and love.....accidents happen and i agree with you, this would make you feel bad.....but animal lovers have to adjust with life and death, because stuff happens.....i ran over one of my most favourite cats one time...years ago....it takes a long time to get over it but it wasn't due to anything that you did on purpose.....don't be so hard on yourself.......xoxoxo pat

1day, there are such worse things for people and animals to endure. I want you to feel good aboput the love for the kitty and the food. Death is merely a transition. I am so sorry you are feeling down. You know the old cliche, better to have loved and lost then never to be loved? The cat was loved. You are loved. There is so much suffering in the world and you fed a hungry kitty. Please feel proud of that, feel blessed to share this life with kitty. It is a gift. I wish I had a magic wand.

(((((ww))))) Thank you. You're right. She's in a warm place now. Where she doesn't have to fight for every meal.

It must be hard being right all the time. I'm a horrible person (pet loss) -- may trig Good thing you seem to have adjusted to it so well.

I was about 11 years old when my hamster died. I was heartbroken. And I felt so very guilty. I had left the cage in the sun, and he probably died of heat stroke. Oh, wait, he was 3 years old! A very old age for hamsters.
I was 27 years old when my dog died. She was a present from my brother when I was 13. We had just moved into a house (previously an apartment, hence the hamester type pets!) and he got me a dog for Christmas. Without telling my parents!!! Anyhow, when my dog died, I went to bed that night and I just thanked God for giving me that dog. My grief was really overshadowed (over sunned) by my gratitude.
I learned a lot from the death of my dear puppy. Years later when my mother died, I was sad, my biggest fear all my life was what happens to me when the person who loves me the most dies? And then GRATITUDE!!!! How lucky am I?! I was, and still am, so completely loved by my mother. And I loved and still do love my mother.
Don't focus on the guilt or the sadness. Focus on the gift of love!

I adopted a cat who was raised outside and to bring her in was ok but was out of her eliments if you know what I mean. Anything above 30 degrees she prefered to be outside in her older years. In her younger years she would come in to eat an that was it she prefered to be outside. Yes it is a rougher life but it is life.
